That's like asking how old a person must be before they're no longer considered 'immature.'  Sure, general trends can show that as you get older you're less likely to be immature; but on a whole, it's about attitude and personality; anyone at any age can be immature.

So is it with posting.  Sure, most people with higher post counts aren't newbs, but there are plenty that cavort around this place like imbeciles even though they've passed Professor (1000 posts).  ‘Newb’ is a manner of presenting yourself.  If a member responds intelligently to their new surroundings, has useful input, and follows the rules, I will never consider them a newb, even if they’ve only posted once or twice.

Read this: It isn't how new or old you are to PEEL or what your rank is, it's about how you contribute to discussions.

Oh, you newbies are so cute when you're little. Such a shame you grow up and get attitudes.  :(

People declaring that they are not a newb usually are.  :p

Also, they tend to confuse questions/suggestions with declarations.
This thread is however is not made for these.
I hereby suggest that you would make these declarations elsewhere.  :)

I'm still leading the official "anti-n00b"* campaign. n00b is only ever used as a slanderous insult, like calling someone a nigger. It might be accurate but it's not very nice now is it? Can't we stick to traditional slanderous insults such as dipshit and arsewhore?

* - By this I mean that I oppose the word "n00b" not people who are being called "n00b"s, if you read this far then you probably aren't one.

Well I didn't mean n00b. I meant I've basicly been here since 2002 so I may be a n00b but not a newbie.

An eaiser way to find responces to your posts. It's so hard to find what people have said about what you've posted.

I don't know if anyone would have the time to do this, but I think it would be a good idea if someone could make an 'Avatar Upload' thing when you change your profile.

It would be much more easier an efficient. People wouldn't have to wait for there Avatar to be put into the pool etc. They could do it in their own time.

The manual system is there to stop people uploading anything they want. It also allows a level of quality control.

Is there, perhaps, a slight chance that maybe features that have recently been changed and that were a bit less annoying in the past could be restored to their former glory?

ie - Can we put the flood control back to 1 minute again?

Why should it be changed? Personally I see no need for that.

Flood Control is good. It pisses off spammers who like to post more than once in 2 minutes...

Keep flood control

Also, could they make a 'log out' option? I think I saw it once, but it  hardly ever appears. I'm logged in at school and it's stuck like it, if someone else goes onto PEEL they could use my account...

Well, I hear it was changed because someone jokingly said they were going to flood Peel. We were doing just fine with it at 1 minute and that person never actually did the flooding, so why not change it back?

It was also fine at 1 minute.

Let's say you have a job. And at this job you are given an hour for lunch each day. However, holidays come around your business gets more busy and lunch is shortened to 30 minutes to increase productivity. Now after holidays are over, should lunch be changed back to an hour, the way it was? You have enough time in 30 minutes to eat. A 30 minute break is fine. But I'd still want my extra 30 minutes back, because that was fine too.

Nope, there is no "log out" or log in for that matter.  I log in from Uni as well, and everytime I post, I have to retype in my name and password.  I wouldnt worry about it too much.  Log on the same computer tomorrow and see if its still saved in the "quick post"

If that doesn't happen what Amy told you, go here and set it to not save your cookie. It'll make you enter your password every time.

If your browser still saves it it is your own fault, and not a PEEL problem.

1) If your school network is really that bad, it's the most screwed i can think of.
2) I have a suggestion, we ban Dan1248!

I knew it wasn't a PEEL problem, just the crud school computers. Do you think the school PCs will save cookies though?

Thanks for your help

They shouldn't, but knowing the history of the setup of school computers, they might do, but will be cleared up around once a month or so.

i also agree that the flood control go back to 1 minute. Posting twice within 2 minutes isn't necassarily only for spammers, i mean you could continually spam even if the flood control was 10 minutes (take a look at dan). Its easy to, withing 2 minutes, find a new topic that you want to legitimatly post in. Also, Ji's lunch theory works too!

Okay, this may be dumb, but could I start a General Discussion Thread?

A place where you could discuss Futurama topics that don't deserve their own thread.

Would that be okey-day if I made that, or if somebody else did?

Thanks  :)

I don't think it would make sense, because it would be as chaotic as the Test/Winna/etc.- thread in Offtopic in no time.

That was where I got the idea. I don't think the 'whatever you want to call it' threads are that chaotic.

The GD thread may also stop other crappy threads being started

Did you get that idea from benderfender's OFF TOPIC THREAD?

I actually don't think the Gen Dis Thread is too bad of an idea...but I doubt it would stop stupid threads such as those from being started. The noobs aren't going to know to talk about that junk in the thread and will start their own crappy ones anyway.

No, I've been thinking of it for ages. I just haven't the guts to start one. I thought we could do with one because there have been a lot of dumb threads made recently.

When I saw Bf's crud OFF TOPIC THREAD it made me think that I'd better ask first.

And thats how I got here...

Well people have tried this before, not even that long ago. Like many regular PEELers like Teral, the mods and me have noted back then is that it is doomed to fail, like this example did:

The Annoying Little Futurama Question Thread

The reasons are stated in it as well, here is the post Teral made which covers it:

Quote
Originally posted by Teral:

Which means that these threads simply get out of people's and especially newb's eyes, because it gets pushed down and then to page 2.

you might add that why it couldn't be some kind of thread sticked to the top. Ok, the answer is quite easy: PEEL doesn't support these  ;)

So in conclusion: The idea is good and has been started before, but then again doomed to fail.

Yes, because oh, in the month youve been here, its just been forever and a day.

Anyways, I dont think it will fail because people wont post, more because with the n00bs lately, it will consist of "Hi" in one post...and so on and so forth - leading to the "get AIM and chat there" thought
