No, let's. Hey, <PEELer Here> You suck!

I say Ontopic needs cleaning up. There's a bunch of crap in there that coulld probably be closed, or something. Also, why does it take so long for the custom avatars to be uploaded? I respect that SlimmyCGEF is not made of time, but why do the files themselves take so long to upload?

Krokei, you just answered your own question. Slimmy has a life, and he doesn't really frequent PEEL. He uploads the file when he feels like it, and he does it a lot more often then he used to, anyway. I waited well over six months for my current avy to be uploaded for the first time. Just be patient.

I just had the greatest idea.

First, to make sure it's applicable, I'll ask a question: why does PEEL only use avatars hosted onsite?  Is it a UBB thing?  Because if offsite images could be used as cutom avatars (like on, say, every other message board on the internet,) it would mean less work for PEEL's notoriously overworked server, and fewer people bitching about their custom avies not being uploaded promptly.  Hosting the images offsite wouldn't be a problem, since Photobucket, Imageshack, and about 50 other image hosting sites will hold the images free of charge, and numerous PEELers (GFF, Teral & Co., and winna spring immediately to mind) have their own hosting space already.

So, to summarize: why not allow remotely linked custom avatars?

If I remember correctly the argument was that mArc (by proxy) like to have some kind of control with what is used as an avatar. Probably to avoid seeing sexually aroused bodyparts, offensive political logos, etc on PEEL.

Then come to problem with people using unreliable hosters, broken links, etc. Way back, in the days of yore, back when I was a wee poppler, we could use off-site images in signatures, but after an incident with a broken link screwing up the load-time/script (or something along those lines) mArc decided to only allow sig-images hosted on the PEEL-server.

I remember that incident, Langly used a siggy with a pop up script.

And that's why you have to upload your own siggys.... odd how avatars don't just work the same way.  In my honest opinion, I think the avatars of peel should be limited to futurama or futuramaesque design.  But by PEEL standards, I'm technically a purist, and it isn't a solution welcomed by all.

A lot of the time PEEL breaks when I try to delete a thread, so it's easier to just close it.

Plus most people are a little slow and make another thread saying, "What happened to my thread?!!! It's gone!"

It's actually more of a popularity contest. Voting is done at the end of the month and all the mods have to do with it is closing the threads when everything is over...  :p

Yes the front page hasn’t been updated for 5 years and it gets really boring seeing the Raging Bender picture of the time. It would be better to update it or remove it.

Dan, I am wondering more and more...

What is the deal with you? I mean all I see from you is bitch about either PEELer, or PEEL itself.    I know that I have enforced the rules a lot myself, but never really to the point were a lot of regulars get pretty much pissed of by me, because they may be attacked.

This thing is implemented into the PEEL main page. As far as I know it has to be set manually. This means that mArc - who got a life of his own, a job to do, a girlfriend to entertain and to run at least 2 futurama webpages - needs to pay even more time on changing it. More time than he already spends here with banning and unbanning idiots, deleting spam, and fixing bugs and errors in the database. In short, why in hell should it be changed? It is just a link to an episode thread and a poll about it. Something regulars, like you want to be, can easily look over and ignore.

Btw... just to tell you. I guess you broke the "post/day" rate... 16.741935483870968 . Not even Nasty Pasty had that much in his first month, and he gladly admitted to be the leader of the biggest spam-ring there was.   :hmpf:

Seriously cut it down.   :)

I had 18 at one point.Looked a few pages back, where I stated how many posts I had at that point. I calculated I was at 18.5744680841 on April 12th. I knew it was bad, and now I'm at 12-ish.

I_C, this isn't some sort of joke.  Peel is getting ridiculous with all of this.  You were real bad, and yeah, you've calmed it down, but even with the high posts per day, atleast your posts contribute.

People like Dan and these other n00bs are just posting completely random and irrelevant things.  Most of which are just repeating what the person before them said.  It's not only the fact that it is annoying and rude - it's the fact that it takes up unnecessary bandwith.

PEEL has always been infested with annoying n00bs and trolls. Eventually they get bored or banned.
Not that this is a good thing, but I have confidence that PEEL is strong enough to handle this...

So basically, you want people to post once a day, and only want oldbies can post?
Why let new people register if you're gonna prejugde 'em by the fact that they're new?

People take what I say the wrong way. I don't mean to bitch, but I don't need 4 people all telling me how bad I am all at once. This is why I am like I am. Be fair.

BTW, I understand about the Raging Bender thing now.

Yes, and we don't need one stupid n00b telling us what is wrong with our board, and how traditions and other things which we have been doing for ages are wrong and serve no purpose. If you see something and think its wrong, it isn't.

I'm not prejugding them at all. I think I give all new members a fair chance, and try to help them as much as I can. Even to the point where many others would have given up, or starting to flame these new ones. But seeing that these go on like that, even after the 15+ question to calm down saddens me.

I totally agree with Gocad on the posting uselful things. Of course people should post, that is what a message board is about, but keep it on topic of the thread. It is just horrible to see someone bumping an one year or older thread with just a reply like "agreed", or even just a smiley.

Around a year ago I was kind of in the shooting line of our mods as well, for telling them how and where to do their job, using pictures to indicate my opinion whether a thread should be closed or not. Well, I realized what it is to do that job, and you can obviously see that it got harder to do that lately, because things to close and delete became more. I later had the same problem with my greeting habits.

In the long run you see that it is easier for yourself, and for PEEL if you just let things happen. I mean it'll sort itself out, annoying people that troll will be banned or leave. Always answering them, and perhaps even telling or yelling at them to act to the rules, could even feed them to go on like they do.

These are just the things I found out for myself during my time here.  :)

To sum it up Dan, only post when you have something usefull to say, or something to contribute to the discussion.
Go along with what the mods say and do, beacuse as many people have said, they have a hard job to keep PEEL running, a lot harder than you think, and the last thing they need is someone telling them what to do.
I know I'm one to speak, I'm rather new myself, and still don't know everything about PEEL.
Just listen to what the mods say, they don't hate you, they just get annoyed when someone goes on and on about little problems that no one else really cares about. PEEL is fine as it is.

Thats not true. When did I say that? Everyones making it sound like I want to ruin everything, change it all and break the traditions. I only wanted to ask about the Raging Bender thing, and its already been made clear to me.
