I'm just wondering if there's been any progess made on this front. People bring it up from time to time, and the general consensus seems to be that they should be underway by now, but nothing's happening.

Normally I wouldn't devote an entire thread to this sort of thing, but with the test thread gone, I couldn't find any satisfactory place to stick this.

Also: Here's a link to last year's Peelies, for those who've not seen them:

Mellll: I would think that Nix would be in charge of it, since he invented it and would cry if someone else took over. Maybe when he comes home from work today he will tell you guys what to do. More than likely he'll just sit around and do nothing.

ps- I'm deleting all the nomination posts. No nominations, ok? More details will come soon (I assume).

or i could just post this link to stir up trouble

At the 2002 PEELies, the PEELies Committee did all the nominations, and later posted an email-address for people to vote through. I'm pretty sure the 2003 version will follow the same formula, otherwise it'll just be "POTM redux, now with more spam!"

C-SPAN Award for Most Convincing Debator
Ben

Why doesn't that surprize me?

[announcer off of Rocko's Modern life]The Benz, you've watched them kill deep sea divers. Now, you can watch them kill right-wingers.[/announcer off of Rocko's Modern Life] Anyway, which Ben won that award? The cynical, right-wing hating Ben? Or the cynical, imperialism hating Ben? Or that other Ben that I know nothing about?

cute.
I think my best shot at a PEELie would be best male PEELer, which is a bit of a long shot. damn that sexy Sprite.

If only there was a PEELie for creating new words, and finding new uses for old words. I would be sure to win. Perhaps I would also have a shot at most controversial PEELer, but that would also be a long shot.

Edit: I would probably also win if there was a PEELie for longest PEEL story ever.

Ah; see, since I wasn't here last year, I didn't know. I would've left it up to someone who was involved last year, but since no one was stepping up to the plate...

Well, in any case we've got a few people talking about it now; that might be enough to convince the totally not lazy powers-that-be to get around to setting the PEELies up for this year.

Can I suggest "Biggest Spammer" category to lay that question to rest once and for all?

And also "Least likely to leave his/her keyboard"

And also one that I can win, so I can collect a second PEELIE.

You may.

Suggestions rejected. Unless you can determine what constitutes a newbie, PEEL'er/PEEL'ette/Young PEEL'er of the Year and Least Missed PEEL'er covers everything.

To give you a due sense of shame, and prove that we do want you around, we just want you to change (as a generic comment to all annoying newbies).

That's the point of these "evil" awards. To prompt people to change themselves so as not to "win" another.

Yes, but perhaps it'd encourage them to try and be annoying?

And what's wrong with best newbie? doesn't it mean whoever the best newbie was (i.e. least newbish)? Say someone who just joins and is pretty good with things from the start. Isn't that good?

But the problem is, "what is a newbie?" A newbie for 2003 would be anyone who joined between January and November of this month. That includes a lot of people, some who don't want to be called "n00bs".

I think the nominations would nominate themselves in n00b category and we could just weed through them.  PEELies 2003 should be twice as best as PEELies 2002.... for some reason.....

Yes, well it depends on how long you define a user as a noob. For two months, lets say, how they were during those two first months.

There's a reason we eliminated Best Newbie/Rookie of the Year from consideration last year.  These are supposed to cover all of 2003.  Should someone who joined in January be considered as a newbie in ::checks calendar:: November?  And who's going to remember January and February?  I can't even remember last week.

OK, anyone, anyone at all, who would like to be on the committee, please email me at nixorbo@yahoo.com with your Username and why you should be a part of the Council of Nine.  Teral's in by default, and so am I, amd it looks like gnome's in, so that leaves six spots.

Things I'm going to be looking for:

Been registered on PEEL for at least 6 months.
In good standing - able to get along with most PEELers
Not power hungry - I hate competition
A good mixture that more or less represents PEEL - some Europeans, someCanadians, some Americans, at least one girl, etc.

Woo hoo! The two sweetest words in the English language: de-fault!  De-fault!  De-fault!

And aslate hit it right on the head, why we don't have "Biggest Spammer" and similar categories. It just encourage people to be even more annoying in order to win a PEELie. Plus an award should only be handed out for good achievements. "Least Missed PEEL'er" is acceptable, since the recipient isn't here any more.

Moreover, a PEElie is a PEELie, just like an Oscar is an Oscar. Most people don't even care about the category. How many time have you seen movies claiming to have won 3 Oscars, without telling the awards were for "Best Best Boy", "Best Catering" and "Best Use of Product Placement"? Too damn often.
