No. It is only bad to bump if you are:
Responding to something posted ages ago and your post is as good as being irrelevant
Posting something meaningless
Bumping a thread for no reason at all
If it's a good thread and you have something to add to it go ahead, but don't do it pointlessly/spammily.

Is that some kind of dance or something?

Also I agree with aslate.

aslate you mean sometimes it is bad to bump threads.
i think it's bad for PEEL to bump very old threads, but if thread is only month old it's okay. also reasons aslate listed.
(my vote goes to "sometimes" )

If you have something meaningful to add it's better to bump an old thread than creating a new one.

Bumping is where a thread's fallen off the first page of a board (eg off-Topic), and you post in the thread to bring it back to Page 1.

I think bumping is okay as long as you have something to contribute to the thread.  Remember Langly bumping a whole load of threads just to mess up page 1?

Bump. *

* Lets just say I posted that as my message. This would be a pointless bump, which makes people flame you.

FIN.

It is better to bump an old thread than to start a new one on exactly the same subject if you have a good point to add  :)

Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad.

For example - if you're bumping up a review thread for an episode or comic or something because it only just came out in your country and you'd like to review it, then that's practical and necessary.

However, if you're bumping up an old abandoned 19-page-long thread from years ago just for the sake of jacking up your post count, then of course it's bad.

Anyway, I think Tweek's previous post said it best (as you'd expect, considering he's a mod  :)).

Bumping a thread requires bumping your brain. If you have one, then do it.

Be sure to check the date of threads that you stumble across/are linked to. I've read pages of threads and not noticed they say 2001 on and not 2003!

Excuse me, Miss. Can you kindly tell me why did you post a link to a game site in a thread about 'bumping'? .. and you were the one who started the thread.

Edit: Had to rephrase my previous post, for the children.

Bumping is good... For the most part it keeps people from not spamming, and I love seeing really old threads get bumped since I don't usually go through the old threads anyways.  I said no, bumping isn't bad unless you're an idiot...

If someone starts a thread on a certain subject, and 5 pages worth were discussed 3 months ago, then said thread will likely proove insightful to the person who started the duplicate thread, and provoking discussion again.

Also if something is time-significant, EG. The AGI thread falls to page 7, it will likely get bumped to Page 1 days before the event to remind everyone for example.

Just use your discression and common sense.

If you have something to say, in your thread, in someone elses, but if your gonna mindlessly blather like "I agree" to bump up your thread, your post no or just to be a schmuck I will take you down, I will take you down to Chinatown... when I am resonably confident I can get away with it (Aha, did I say that out loud? on God no not the banstick!)
