I'd just like to make a request to any of the moderators who see this thread, to link to http://www.thefryhole.alltoons.co.uk/peelfaq.php  when closing welcome threads.

BTW : Thanks to everyone for helping with the "Give newbs a chance" campaign.  :D

Yeah, that's generally the conception people have of the term first time they see it used. Hence the great confusion when it's used in romantic/emotionally-charged threads.

Another entry:

I just checked the member list, and I'm not on it! What the hell...

The member list needs to be updated manually by [-mArc-], and it's done at irregular intervals. Don't expect it to happen anytime soon again. Your profile still functions though, since that's done automatically by the message board. If you're desperate to find yourself on the memberlist, use the search function and you'll pop up, since the seacrh scans the profiles. Being on the list have no influence on your status or posting privileges.

Question: With all the different posts and topics...is the only way for a user to keep on top of all their different posts is to type in their user name for each category? Or is there a trick I am not aware of? Thx.

I don't fully understand the question. Are you asking about storing the username and password or seeing if someone has replied to a post?

Yeh, to check replies to my posts/people adding more posts to a thread I posted in.

I have been posting in a bunch of different threads/topics...What is the best way to keep track of them; is entering my user name in a search in each category the only way...OR is there some trick that makes it easier..(For example bookmarking??)

And while I'm at; is there some unspoken etiquette about posting back and forth; "conversations"? For example, if someone asks a question, someone else responds, then the first person makes a new post to respond to the second person, etc.
Is there a "limit"/should someone try to respond by editing their original message when they can?

If you use a cookie to store your username and password (Found here), then it auto-logs you in on the main page. When you refresh or visit the main page from then on a "Reply" box appears in the top right, with a list of topics to which someone has posted after you. This only applies to the first post after yours.

The rules are that chat-style conversations that can be done on #Futuramachat or an instant messenger are not allowed, so most back-and-forth conversations are not allowed. However do not go editing posts to reply to ones made after it, or it gets confusing.

However use the edit button whenever you to fix spellings or add extra info that isn't worth a new post. Never double-post unless bumping a topic that's been idle for a few days or more.

Hope that helps!

The PEELers' FAQ Codes

When linking to a certain bit on the PEELers' FAQ, tag those #codes on the end of the URL to link there, it's the up-to-date list.

You have to use reply (not quickpost) and then remember to check the box "Show signature". There's no other way, automatic signatures are not possible on PEEL.

I think that's an Invision thing, not UBB.

You can't. The only way to get your signature to appear is to use Reply, and to check the "Show Signature" box.

EDIT: Damn you Teral!  :p

I think it would get really annoying if we had signatures on every post.

Maybe something for the FAQ?

My signature wont show, and I have uploaded a picture in the profile. Help!

If you want your signature to appear on a post you have to use the Reply option, quickpost wont add signature. Once in the reply window, be sure to check the box "Show signature" and write your post as usual.

You can't edit a post to add your signature. PEEL doesn't support automatic signature, that's an Invision Board feature.

You can, if it's desperate - you just have to copy and paste it in from a previous post (with sig), like this:

I quickly learned though.

Is there any other way to climb ranks other than posting messages, because it really seems unfair that some posts like "Awww that's so cute" (I'm not conciusly quoting anyone, so if someone feels quoted please contact me) are as significant as a long, topic-contributing post (not that i consider i ever wrote one of those). Also, i think you should expand the slang list, and put an emergency instructions post on some topics (like being caught in the middle of a Randi-Jon flame war or running into Speli).

Just have to wear it buddy, ive been here for about 4 months now and I've almost hit 500 posts while people like Bobby King have been here for less than one month and have over 1000 posts.
But seriously, I couldn't care less about ranks, i do like them, but i believe they just promote spam, and if i made a message board i would probably be against them...

I don't spam. I check carefully to see if it's worth saying something on a topic (most often it is). I'm a few days old and I've posted around 200 posts. If it's not helpful, I guess the mods might see it and deduct it from someone's posts.

@Luis: No, the only thing reflected in the rank is number of posts. Quality have no bearing, sadly.

The issue of it promoting spam have been brought up before, and it was decided to keep the ranks anyway. Most people don't care about ranks, and they don't carry any weight whatsoever. Just a bit of fun. The only ranks that matter is: Administrator, Ubermod and Moderator (and custom ranks   ;) )

Though the administrators have reset post counts or deducted posts, before, when someone spammed the board just to raise their rank. But only admins can do that, deleting a post don't affect the postcount.

Custom ranks, Teral, custom.

Perhaps under emergency topics, specific ones should be red titles?

Custom ranks are earned when the PEEL community feel you have done enough to deserve one, they are very rare.
