ACHTUNG BABY!!!

NOOBIPHOBIA.
If you dont have it, you should. IT seems that the major influx of new users and subsiquent spam Is causing major problems for the board. OR the more likeley option is that marc has just been tweaking the forums.
Anyway. Whats to be done about the Juniors that arent mindful of the unwritten laws? For all you summer posters. Pls be mindful of the fact that Threads are locked when they reach no more than 20 pages. This is in order to prevent a Crash. If you need to post more stuff use the edit button, as youll be told in a patronising manner if you get caught after the fact.
And dont be annoying or Agressive, The peelers like thier posters to have a Sense of humour.

Noobiphobia... I should hope I don't have that, else I'd be afraid of... well, myself.

Actually, I'll never understand the newbie mentality... I never acted like a stereotypical newbie.  About all that's changed in me is that I don't start as many threads as I used to (because I have fewer meaningful original ideas)... they'd always intended to form meaningful discussion, though.

My typing style remains almost completely unchanged since day 1 online... only notable difference is that I've now gotten into a habit of putting smileys before the ending punctuation  ;).

Is he even using that name, anymore?  I haven't even seen him post under that username for a few days... seems he's made a change over to Satan, I assume to try to make us believe he's not him... or something like that.  It didn't work well.

Yes, yes, newbies are evil, and this board would have been better off if it never had any newbies at all.

*Ahem* Regardless, I fail to see the logic behind expecting newbies to know unwritten rules. Yes, they're seen all over the place whenever somebody double-posts or flames somebody or acts like HypnoToad, but why not make a nice, shiny, visible post listing all the "unwritten" rules? (Does this board have the "sticky thread" function, or is it too old for even that? Ah well...)

I never got along with the likes of aslate when i started posting again. They demanded i use the edit button, and i got really pissed at the endless harrasment.....then they broke my spirits, so now i am ONE of "Them"

That's not a nice thing to say  :(. Sorry, it really bugs me when people like HypnoToad/Satan/Lee Lemon (All the same person BTW) keep ignoring the "Unwritten rules".
Normally when someone breaks them, for the first few times i say "can you use the edit button" in a nice, friendly manner. But then if they keep ignoring it just gets really annoying.

No offense to all the "nice n00bs" (Frank and some others) but this/last months n00bs are really being annoying.

Some people just hate rules...
On a CGI board I mod, I got flamed, DOSed, viruses sent to me, script kiddies, and various SYN Port attacks after I posted an "unwritten rules" article (and I only listed five).

Still, would be nice to have an unwritten rules article. Of course, if someone were to "discover" HypnoToad/Satan/Lee Lemon's IP address...(but that would be wrong, so let's not).

Some forum users might just not understand the trouble they're causing - I once knew a ten year old kid who insulted other users, spammed, and brought up dead topics, but he didn't think he was doing anything wrong...he didn't understand that a) a forum is a place where civilised people (well, most of us) discuss things, and b) no one had actually told him the "unwritten rules".

Anyway, on sticky topics, been suggested, but decided not worth it. And an FAQ thread, i don't know if i'd have read one if i was forwarded to it.

Of course you wouldn't read it. It would just be used as leverage to yell at n00bies who don't follow the "rules" with absolutely no tolerance.
Oh, and who do I have to bribe to get HypnoToad's IP?

I think I'll rework to FAQ in a bit to have things more relevant to PEEL and have it include rules. Once that's done, a link to it will be in the sign up email.

One of the rules would be "no deprecatory newbie branding".

There's already a link to the faq page at the upperrighthand corner.  And I'm sure anyone who actually DOES wanna know the rules would look out something like that...  No need for some sticky thread.  I don't think marc needs sticky hands anyways ...

I suspect that 'Pothead' is Hypnotoad in yet another guise, based upon the fact that he's going around posting in all his own threads again. And, as evidenced in the Idiot Box thread on 06-06-2003, Hypnotoad loves Cheech and Chong, 'Pothead''s e-mail is a reference to them.

What can be done here? I'm not one for undeserved treatment of newcomers (I can acceptably be called one myself, despite the length of time I lurked here before registering) but this idiot is really dragging a hefty quantity of threads down. He seems to take delight in ignoring the rules of the board, and doesn't listen to anyone. He's broken Krytie's first three (written) unwritten laws. Is IP banning possible?

A lot of these rules are just common sense. But there is also the fact that it can take a while for some people to get used to PEEL's unique conventions. As it stands, PEEL is the best messageboard that i've ever found (apart from those run by myself  :p) and it's because of the way it's run (oh, and the good people).

Ban those who disregard the rules. Maybe a 'strikes' system can be enforced, or would that be too difficult?

rikkibarnett: stop posting to all threads. We aren't blind. Go for one that fits your question.

Samuel: He's on a multihomed proxy, I'll keep hunting his IPs till he got bored or ran out of IPs. That or ask his ISP to act.

Sorry, we could not post your reply to this topic. Contact your bulletin board administrator and inform them that they may have may run out of available disk space. Their web host may be preventing them from posting new files.

This is the reason we need a final solution.
Im pretty sure Diabolical dude is Hypno toad.
Perhaps we should temporarorily have the mods Validate all new accounts, and increase The security protecting the board from attacks.
By the way, does he ever log on to Futuramachat?

So incase The mods dont notice sooner, There are about 6 threads in General chat that require your attention.

EDIT:Ah good i see a burly mod has leapt in and Dealt with the offending objection.

I think that would be a bad idea. When I signed up for Toon Zone, I had to wait some 30-odd hours for my account to be validated. That was pretty annoying. I like how PEEL is open and easy to use. All you have to do is provide a valid e-nail address (for password) and you're set. I like that.

Just have faith in the moderators and the admins to sort out the problems. No need to implement obstacles to new members.

Y'know... why did Hypno Toad stop using his actual Hypno Toad account, anyway?  Did he think he was fooling people with his other accounts?

Anyway, mikey... it's hard to imagine that Hypno, as well as all his dozens of siblings, could have the exact same level of annoyance  ;).

mArc closed the Hypno Toad account. I guess he just created his Satan account becuse he thought it was clever.

Either that or he was just copying Capper.
