due to the recent arguments and banning of AOL and what not, there have been thoughts of changing to a new server. my question is: do you want to change or would you rather stay on the current server? i'm not listing a third choice on the poll becasue this is very important with what will happen the next few days. please write your comments below. Thanx.

~Randi

p.s. there are a few servers in mind, all of which are pretty good with definite no bannings of AOL and nicer IRCOPS

I'll change, if only to have more amusing chat with FF.

Wait, what? "Recent arguments and banning of AOL"? Could someone please explain concisely and detailed-ly what exactly happened behind the scenes? I assume this has to do with the server troubles we've been having...

I chose stay because the server works fine for me.  I don't use AOL and I cannot imagine many PEELers do.  Please be more detailed about the reasoning behind this if it is such an important issue.  Who argues with servers?  What about?  Please clarify.

What would moving actually do that would affect non-AOL users anyway?

I vote for change, if it's for the greater good.  If a new server's good enough for AOL users, it'll be good enough for the rest of us.

I voted for stay, because I'm IRCop on IRChat and I like this Network.

Of course I don't like banning AOL thing, but AOLers still can join through CGI and its look like mIRC and fast like mIRC.

P.S> I don't think everyone on PEEL chatting in #fc and use AOL,so this thread not in topic.

<edit>

if someone wanna see CGI :  http://members.lycos.co.uk/bendybender/CGI.gif
And again,CGI is not java! CGI is fast.

We're all for new PEELers in the chatroom.

Come join us, Lil'Miss.

In other news, the CGI option works really well as I use this when I access the chatroom from work.

Margarita: I have tried that many times before, it only works for a few minutes for me and then i get disconnected. plus, i can't send stuff via the site, only mIRC. i love mIRC, and it's a shame i can't use it now to connect to the room

aslate: i'm sure there are "friendlier" networks that the current one we are using. in fact i know they are. i just thought you might be interested to know that the server we are currently on isn't the only possible option out there.

Spice Weasel: something happened on the current server to cause them to ban all AOL users. i won't get into details, but long story short no one using aol with mIRC can get in. i'm not sure how many people use aol but i definitely know that Tweek and myself cannot get in. There is the java option, but the link here is broken, same with the first link on that page Margarita advertised. Even if java worked, you don't get all the options you do with mIRC. I like mIRC, and being able to not use it really annoys me, which is why some of you (including nerd hehe) haven't seen me there recently.

BTW, thanks for all your comments. It really helps  :)

Here's a solution that will appeal to the laziness of the majority:

The three or so AOL users can ditch AOL.  It's crap and expensive anyway.  Saves us the trouble of caring.

I vote we move, just so I don't have to hear you people bitch and moan anymore.

I'm an IRCop on that network, so no matter what I'm staying, but if #futuramachat moves than mIRC's multiple-network connection abilities will come in quite handy.

Also, if we move, most of you probably won't have to worry about doing anything different to connect, as Marc uses a router address, so no matter what network we move to, the address will most likely still be irc.sick-du.de

I say change it, not everybody can just change their ISP, any way who is to say that they won't decide do ban another ISP next time they take offence with somebody.

We could move to irc.darkfire.net
It's fast, ChanServ and #futurama is free.

Also IRChat seems to have some connection problems occasionally.

rach is my hero!

I say we beat up the AOLer who started this as Spicey and Slaytan suggested, then use Slaytan's medievil mace to attack the loser who decided to ruin lots of people's fun for the sake of a stupid argument with someone they don't even know.

And they'll all be like ARRRGGGGHHH! and WWAAAAAAAHHH!! and then we'll eat pancakes and I'll be all like Guahmm Guahmm.

I know it's my answer for everything, but the stupid nerd and the guy who banned them, both need to get good and laid.

Jeez, these people are so uptight.

Bascisally, whatever it takes to get the majority of the people back in the chat, if what Travis says is right, then the nonAOLers won't have to do anything.

i'm voting for moving because...

1) the admins of the current network are not responsible. you just don't ban the world's biggest provider. even if aol sucks, this is no reason. also, some people who have aol can't change.
and cgi:irc is not a proper substitute for mirc/xchat/irssi.

2) i want a network where i can freely express my ideas (especially: political ideas) without having to worry that some person will kill me.

if those two points can be sorted out, i'm all for staying, but that doesn't seem too likely.

and randi, about the current server issue (founder/co-founder): i'm not slimmy, but if i offered you my op-rights, would that settle your fight?

so true spiff, so true. my parents dont seem to realize how crappy AOL is, and that irc page sucks even more.

as for that second statement: nah, you keep it, you deserve it, i'm over it anyways, i was just in a pissy mood the other day. sorry everyone =)
