Funny, we had the same complaints on our previous IRC provider (IRChat.tv), kinda makes them look not so bad eh?  But no people just need a reason to bitch.  Fittingly enough, it's in the proper thread!

um. not quite. compared to irchat, oublinet is pretty close a paradise.
sure, owen sometimes kicks and bans people for fun (where the fun lies - don't ask me), but he always unbans them afterwards (that is: unless the people deserved it). it's not nice or very intelligent to do that, but might i remind you: our admins aren't a lot better. slimmy or scotty kick or banned juli for fun quite a lot.
on irchat on the other hand, people got banned for political reasons. if you said you were a muslim you had a damn good chance of getting kick-banned right away - because of your religion. i got kick-banned for simply stating that i didn't agree with the iraq-war. later on (some weeks later), i got kick-banned for trying to join #fc. i think there is a slight difference.

IRChat.tv blocked AOL users, that is infinately worse than the possibility of getting kicked once in a while.

IRChat acted under circumstances.
OUBLi acts under impulse.

Also, AOL users could still enter with the java client.

And also, you weren't banned because you tried to enter #futuramachat (you can't anyway, the channel is shunned), you were banned because your host closely matched that of a string of bot clones they were currently having trouble with (I saw it myself, 20-25 or so bots would simultaneously join certain rooms and repeat certain phrases all at once), you weren't even banned by a human, it was auto-kill.

so, you're basically saying: it's better to ban people because of their political beliefs, their religion or the country they live in than to kick a few people for fun?

no, i didn't state it like that. i think i said "the war on iraq is wrong", i couldn't say a lot more because i didn't survive that statement.
the four-letter-word-heavy statements about that were made when cm wasn't in the room.

i was banned because i tried to enter the room. otherwise i wouldn't have been able to log onto the server in the first place.
apart from that, i know that no person killed me, but that's not really a relief.

and a note about random kicking/banning: the person who usually gets kicked or banned is mic. this is a joke between owen and mic. mic's always unbanned right away.
this isn't really our business.

and something else: if you don't like the way owen acts towards you, just tell him. i don't think he'll kill you right away.
note: if owen kicked you because you typed in caps a lot (just an example), there is no need to complain. you deserved it then.

To please the people complaining about owens actions, me and owen decided it'd be best to take him of the access list to prevent even more complaints.

ps, travis I don't want to hear anything about irchat, at least owen doesn't have any political motive about his actions, it's just having fun and it doesn't hurt people

It's hard to get in to #FC. Mirc isn't working for me at all and the java link on gotfuturama works once every 500 times.

Works fine for me if I connect though irc.sick-du.de, whackpack doesn't seem to work as well though.

ppgworld works fine for me; if irc.sick-du.de doesnt work try /server irc.ppgworld.com.

/map command shows:

how is sending the exact posts that juliet and you made to marc doing anything to blame you unfairly, or point the finger at you?

I don't remember ever saying anything like, "dear marc, TNUK is soo bad, and juliet is awesome!11" If i did then could someone please post that here? and if not could someone please face reality and let it go? I never thought that having marc email you was some life or death situation.

It is unfair because you have taken the posts out of the context of the thread, and not made any attempt to look into theor background, sending what appears to be a case of pot vs. kettle to an admin, when really you should have looked at the fact that this was an unprovoked tirade against myself that I was responding to.

I'll let it go, but only when I get either:
a)A retraction/apology for dodgy half-arsed moderating
OR
b)A little leeway from time to time, when it becomes necessary for me to tell people to fuck off.

It's your choice. The ball is in your court.

Is it just me or has spam tripled ever since Bobby King got here? I hate making a complaint about a single PEELer, but i have never seen any of his posts with more than one or two lines, some of them do have some kind of merit, but most of them don't. On the quiz-type threads in general he must've posted at least 30 "Go, (PEELer) Go" by now
I and many others have warned him, but he hasn't stopped, so could we perhaps get a mod to warn him, or something like that, that he will take seriously.
I don't mind spam all that much, im sure everyone knows that i spam a bit too, but Bobby crosses the line as far as i'm concerned.

mArc, the letters in the box with the announcements on top of the main page, are too small and bold.
I'm on 1280 X 1024 and I can hardly read it. I have to zoom in (a Mozilla feature: View->Text Zoom)

i don't know. it seems readable to me and i have a 1280x1024 resolution too (and a 17" tft) - and it's fine both in windows (opera 6) and linux (mozilla firebird 0.61).
maybe it's because of your settings, zj? (although i doubt it as marc usually uses a css with font sizes in points, as far as i know)
