Hey here's a random idea.

How about whenever someone edits their post, particularly and specifically the last post on a certain thread, it updates the thread. Make sense? Here it is in more detail:

Say I make a small post. Then no one else posts after me for a while and then the topic gets "old" and has a less chance of being viewed/getting posts. Then I want to post something else a bit more interesting than my small post on the same topic. Like say, I want to write a large review of Meerkats, compared to my small post being "Haw haw haw, that's funny :laff:". Seeing as I don't want to double post, I obviously edit my post (may be different for some PEELple, but that's what I would mostly do) and add the review. When I finish writing and save my changes, it'll be classified as a "new" post as it is bigger than the small one I made, and will update the topic, sending it to the top of the list, giving it a larger chance of people looking at it and making posts.

I don't know if that makes much sense, but if it does, I reckon it would be a good idea. Just throwing it out there. This is a Wish Void, after all. ;)

Peel already kind of does this.  It just doesn't throw the topic up to the top of the forum page... but if someone edits their posts after you've looked at it, you'll notice the NEW link pop up again.

Hm, I don't think I've ever seen that happen before over all this time. But I see your point.

He's right, you know. I've noticed this before in various parts of the forum.

Yes. Randi and winna are correct.

I have nothing to add other than my support for their statements, so goodbye forever.

You could discuss whether or not you like the idea of editing posts bumping threads to the top of the forum lists.  It might encourage people to not double post in order to bump threads.  It might also encourage people to necro threads in a strange ways; like if you had a post in the middle of a 7 year old thread and edited it, causing it to jump ahead without most people being able to figure out why it was bumped, since most people just jump to the last page of a thread anyways.

You live here, so you won't actually be going anywhere, but we don't have to talk to you anymore?

Well played, Xan!

...since most people uncultured barbarians just jump to the last page of a thread anyways.

Thank you, winna. That's one of the points I was trying to express entirely. I've got nothing to add to that. :p

Well it's probably best that we don't have it then, because then a few individuals would necrophile a bunch of old threads without actually generating new talking points.  I edit old posts all of the time, because I'm a sort of revisionist historian. :)
