Wow, this whole conversation makes me wonder if my method of browsing PEEL--just indiscriminately clicking on those sub-forums and threads that are showing new posts, all willy-nilly--is somehow flawed.
Yes. You're bad, and you should feel bad: - Click the "Unread posts since last visit" link.*
- Watch the list of links to unread posts populate the page.
- Middle-click each link in the list, top-to-bottom.
- Watch each middle-clicked link open its own new tab.
- F5 to reload the page, showing any new posts since you clicked the links.
- Middle-click any new links which show up, F5, repeat as necessary.
- CTRL-TAB to the first one.
- Read new posts on the page.
- Close the page you're reading, using your fave method (CTRL-W, ALT-F4, hunt for and click the little "X", or my fave: middle-click the tab to close it.
Using this method, all the tabs are loading in the background while you're still reading the first one. Ergo, NO WAITING for the next link to load before you read it! Easy. Peasy. Clearly superior. *I actually middle-click the unread posts link, creating the lists of posts in an adjacent tab, saving the main page for hitting F5 to reload on occasion.

Much of New PEEL doesn't really work at the moment. We still don't even have a "post" button! I blame Steve Jobs.
Even in my hour of failure, Steve Jobs steals my spotlight.

"Damn you, Steve Jobs!" We still don't even have a "post" button!
Well, to be pedantic we do have a post button, it's just not labeled at the moment. I know jack-all about coding for webservers, but if there's some way that I can help by adding missing labels when I have time here and there, and it's not more effort to teach me than it would be to do the work directly, I'm willing to assist. Sign me up.

It's the last one, on the lower left.
Or maybe not, I have admin view? I just tried to cheat by inspecting the element in the browser, looking for "check_sig".

Can we please get spoiler tags fixed? Sometimes I want to discuss spoilery stuff but I also don't want to be a jerk who ruins something for someone, so I end up not posting anything at all.
As the triumphant carpet bomber of Eden-7 once said, "A thought occurs!" ROT13 encoding is made for this problem. It's a substitution encoding where you use the letter of the alphabet that's 13 chars ahead of the original one (wrapping around the end of the alphabet). So, A=N B=O C=P ... N=A O=B P=C etc Thus, Fancr xvyyrq qhzoyrqber. Just make sure not to double-ROT13 This ( https://rot13.com/) will do the translation, but a zillion other sites do the same (or you can just roll your own in Excel or something to fill free time). Also.. I'm not the first to mention it here

Welp, one can imagine a renewed interest in Futurama following the Hulu announcement, so I better get to work on ironing out all the problems you've mentioned. I have decided to actually schedule time for maintenance of the site, so I can really put myself up for disappointment!

Here's a small thing I just encountered: I believe it used to be possible to quote a post from the reply screen—like, each post in the "Topic Summary" section would have its own QUOTE button you could click to transfer it, formatted all pretty, to your text box—but that QUOTE button appears to be no more. It's such a minor issue that it may not even be worth addressing (and obviously you can still quote a post by copy-pasting it and putting it in the [quote = username] tag, it just won't be hyperlinked) but I figured I'd mention it anyway. I know you're a busy mallard, Svip, so please feel free to ignore this very tiny gripe!

Oh, totally—that feature still works perfectly. I just have a memory of that same QUOTE button appearing on every post under the Topic Summary, for those instances when you only realize you want/need to quote a post after the fact.

Right, that's an important clarification: the quoted text goes to the Quick Reply box, not the full reply screen (though, hot tip, you can then just hit the "Preview" button on the Quick Reply box to take you to the reply screen and save you the trouble of copy-pasting).

It was always there.
My original plan was to both maintain The Infosphere and PEEL this weekend. I thought the wiki was going to be a quick job, but it turned it to a bit of a slog. So only The Infosphere got through the mill this weekend, but I am scheduling PEEL for next weekend.

We noticed yesterday that PEEL wasn't rendering as expected, and wouldn't accept an SSL connection. Did someone accidentally bring up an old copy somewhere, on a different server?

A quirk I've noticed, is that sometimes - usually when a service is restarted - PEEL will revert to an earlier settings file, and I have to manually tweak it back to normal. The first few times it happened, I worried about a larger intrusion, but since nothing else besides was touched, I figured it was a strange quirk of SMF. I have yet to figure out what is happening (and I know it's nothing dangerous), but since I know what to do when I see it, I've been putting it off for now.

Glad to hear it's not serious and that we're (likely) not the target of a cyber warfare operation.

Got a nice surprise tonight. I was searching for a member's profile and for fun clicked some of the untagged links, in the hope that the feature to look up a person's last posts might be functioning again, and belatedly noticed the new code added to the profile pages! Thanks, Svip!
