If you're happy with a GIF, take this, if not, bad luck ;-)
* There are some ways to implement quasi-transparency in JPEGs, but that's not standardised. You could use JPEG 2000, but there's no real support amog web browsers for that format Thanks for pointing out that GIFs are transparent and JPEGs aren't. Problem is whenever I try to put the image you linked to into my sig, as [img ] [/ img], it doesn't work. Then, when I try uploading it to the sig database thing, I can't do it because my computer saves it as a .bmp only and you can't load a BMP to the sig database thing. For the Trogdor avatar, I found a larger image of that by using Google: I think people can work with that better.

Nicky boy, I personally can't do avatars because I don't have a program that will do transparency. But I can help you. The image you posted isn't very good resolution and kind of small. Those things aren't good when somebody's trying to make an avatar. I searched Google and I found a better image. Also, defdev, did you search through the thread? It might still be there.

I use GIMP, i'll help: 1. Save the image as a .gif (e.g: FuturamaCover1.gif) in order to get transparent imagry. 2. Open image in gimp. Right click> Layer> Transparency> Add Alpha Channel. Then use the rubber/eraser to erase bits you dont want. The result must be like this: resize the image, highest number to 64, open blank gimp page, 64x64 and c+p.

Here's the correct steps, if I recall correctly: 1. Erase backround. When I say this, I mean COMPLETELY erase the backround. What Dr. Bender Nye showed above is incomplete and gives the rough edges look when resized. 2. Trace image. (I believe you still do this, GFF. I remember when I did avatars that this was a step in doing them.) This means recoloring borders, coloring areas that don't look right, etc. It makes it look fresher after you... 3. Resize the image. Make the larger dimension 64 pixels, then resize the palette to 64x64, and center image.
