I do agree with Archie in nearly all points. 4 and 6 are questionable, though.

Ok...

now I think we should leave this thread for what it was meant for: Technical PEEL problems

The meeting of PEELers in New York City. Organised in this thread.

We Eurpeans got our original AGI, and the Aussies got something as well.

6 months being the differentiation term?

No... I don't think so.  For as long as I've been on the board, there has never been any certain amount of time between being a n00b and being a r3gul4r.  I've seen people well welcomed within just their first few weeks.  All in all, the distinguishing factor is the amount of time in which the older members take to you.  Rank and time spent here are certainly taken into account when one thinks about such matters.

On that note, I consider everybody a n00b who got here after 2002.  :p

i think we should disregard the ranking... almost altogether, as some people post for the sake of hearing their own words... getting to urban legend within' a few months of registering is beyond belief...

I have to agree with you there.  It's becoming more common for people to just smash through the ranks these days.  I'm pretty sure I had Bending Unit for about 3 years... or maybe I had it for awhile and then had Starship Captain for awhile... either way, I started posting a lot more only about a year ago.  I've reached all my PEEL goals too, since when I was first a member, Liquid Emporer was the highest rank, and that's what I said that I would be eventually, and I've already attained that and more.  I think DOOP Secretary isn't the greatest rank, and I kind of don't want to be that one...

Plus.. we need a new rank by now anyways... just to liven things up a bit  :p

i think i'd probably stop posting if i ever got to space pope... it's the number of stars that's so attractive!

new complaint*... the alert button doesn't work for me, not sure if it's firefox or something, but that's not the complaint

it seems the ytmnd thread on zoidberg's woop noise is just spam...

I agree that the stars look much cooler than this one single medal. Also if there is another rank, where would that be? Nurdy is already above 22500 posts.

If there were a new rank, it would probally be "Emperor of the Moon" or "Earthican President". I'd think that the rank would be a number below the 5th and above the 6th ranked in posting PEELer. A number ending in a 0 or 5. Like 13000. And it would be TWO medals. But, it probally wouldn't even happen soon.

I managed to post on that thread as the first post. The thread was promptly deleted.

I tried to post this morning for the very first time and it brought up the "flood control" message despite the fact that it was my first time posting since the night before... is that an error that normally occurs? I've never had it happen before.

It depends if your IP range is within someone else's. For example, myself and CyberKnight have IPs that are often confused for each other so we have received flood control errors on first posts.

Or it could be a blip.

Hmm. Well, JBERGES and I work at the same company, but our buildings are a mile away from each other. Still... that could be the issue, I suppose. I don't think I'm privvy to my work IP address, though, so I guess I'll never find out. Hasn't happened again, so I suppose it doesn't matter.

When I go to make a post or just edit an existing one, sometimes this message will appear:

We cannot process your posting, because you have exceeded the maximum number of images allowed per post. The current maximum is 8.

This message appears even though I included no images in my message. I didn't know where to post this, I just wanted to make sure the you guys were aware of this, thanks   :)

edit: oh wait nevermind. I think I figured it out. The image count includes smileys and your signature, so with those I guess I did have 8; 7 smileys and my sig.

I'd have to say the administrators are a little trigger happy when it comes to closing threads.

I made a joke thread yesterday about how some people around here are making some pretty dull and meaningless polls. It was just another poll about what poll would be next, blah blah blah. It's in the Human Resource Dept. if you want to see it. There was nothing offensive about it, and it was just as meaningful as most of the other polls that've been made lately. And at least a lot more entertaining. But, an administrator closed it before anyone could reply to it or anything.

I just tried to bring a little humor into the boards. Is that not allowed or something?

That poll had no reason. All it would cause is spam and making of "Which Character Likes Pancakes the Most?" polls. There's lots of humor on this site, just look at some of the threads in Off Topic, but some threads, like yours, can just cause spam, and spam is bad.

Hey, I opened a poll where an inanimate carbon rod beat Nixorbo in popularity 10:1, then Nix closed the thread. Corruption!

Also, joke threads are closed, not deleted, which prevents spam using up bandwidth resources, and also retaining its intended humour.

To quote a great man "Ahhhhhh, lighten up."

Frybot: I enjoyed it.  I even linked it in the Test Thread for posterity.  I agree that Kryten could have left it open a little longer, but it was, by the book, spam.

And oh dear, so is this.  Umm...

Any chance of changing the Classic Episode, maybe?

Ok, I have an actual complaint. It has been a month since the last avatar upload, which in consideration isn't that long, except that I have notfied Slimmy several times about the 15 or so people who requested their avy to be uploaded. There have also been several posts in the avatar thread expressing concern about the length of time it takes to upload. Now this post is gonna veer into suggestion territory...but if it takes this long to upload a few avatars, I think that the power should either be shared among qualified parties (be it other moderators or PEELers experienced with avatar-making (like gff)) or this avatar uploading power should be given to everyone. I realize the concerns for the latter option, since I'm sure offensive or vulgar avatars would be frowned upon (and I agree), but I think this problem needs to be dealt with and a solution needs to be made. Thanks for listening.

On peoples profiles it should say upload an avatar from the computer or internet site. That'd be a lot easier.
