The uploading thread has always been in offtopic, and the avatar maker thread is always in the Wish Void.

What version do you have? I've got 2.0, and this is what I came up with: 1. Open the "Layers" Dialog 2. Right click the background layer in the dialog, and select "Add Alpha Channel" 3. Go back to the image, and in the toolbar, select Layers, then New Layer. Make sure the "Transparent" radio button for the background is checked, and press "OK" 4. Back to the Layers Dialog, select the layer you just created, and then the down button. I'm not sure what you want to do after that, but if you want to make the backdrop of your image transparent, then select the "Select Hand Drawn Regions/Contiguous Regions/Region by Colour" (whichever one you need) and use the eraser to remove it. See if that works.
