I don't really care if I win or not, since I pretty much stopped paying attention to this forum a long time ago. Popularity contest...

I don't check the forum for a few days and this is what happens,

I have two questions
What is Fall Madness 04' & 2 How does it work?

Does it just go on Character popularity?

Someone explain in lamens terms.....cuz there seem to be other's who are in the same confusion boat as well so if someone could clear things up it would be much appriceated.

Cheers, Neil

It's a tournement to decide the most popular Futurama character. Apparently named for some obscure American basketball something-or-another.

The begining of Fall Madness.

& 2 How does it work?

All characters (well, the ones Nix decided was eligible) are divided into 4 brackets (see picture further up) and they face eachother in a head-to-head, mano-a-mano, winner-takes-all, battle royale to the death! (or whoever have most votes after one week)

I'd like to thank all the people voting for Gore, that's going to hurt me unbelievably much in the coming rounds. I managed to get all the fights in the 20th Century bracket right this time, except this kick in the teeth.

First Lrrr, then Hawking.  You people have no idea who you're supposed to like.  But it's all good, because Gore is never going to win the next round.

I swear I won't use L337 for a whole week

Man, I'm just happy Al Gore won something in his admittedly pointless life.

Sorry, Teral.  And evan, you should know better.  You keep up with politics; Gore will always win in a straight majority vote.

Honestly, I was planning on more of the dorks here voting for Hawking, since I assumed more international PEELers would know him than Gore.  Turns out I was wrong.

Honestly, I was expecting Gore to win the sudden death, since he was in the lead for the majority of the time the first time around.

Also, I agree with whoever said the sudden deaths were a bit pointless. "Hey, guys, you remember that thing you all voted on last week? Well, the numbers don't match up well, so let's do it again, the exact same way." Also, you get people like Col. Klink (who kind of made himself a scapegoat) voting for different people the next time just to piss people off. Harumph. Now if only I had a plan of some sort...

Can we actually try and base this next Fall Madness on something other than a popularity contest? When I filled this thing out, I based it on who I thought would win in a battle, and it got me kind of irritated to find out that wasn't the point.

Fall Madness has always been based on popularity. You weren't here for last year's one - but that one was for most favourite episode. In my opinion, it'd be kinda pointless to have a "who would win a fight" contest.

Can we speed up the rounds?  Now that there are less matches per round, it seems kinda silly to have a week to decide.  Yeah, yeah, during the finals and semi-finals we can extend it to a full week again, but these quarter-final matchups take forever.

Somehow I think he's doing this on purpose.

I haven't voted for anything...even looked at these threads, but I guess that doesn't make a difference. I still somehow wound up in contention. Unless the entries put in were the only entries.

I sent in a bracket the day Nix announced these things. But when I found out it was a popularity contest and not a battle, I stopped paying attention for the most part.

I wasn't looking for a prize if I won anyway. The satisfaction of beating everyone else would have been good enough for me.

Vote for the Zapper. He deserves your vote. He's the greatest character ever to grace the television.

That's exactly how I planned it, TNUK.

Even though I won all four contests, I'm still stuck in 8th place.  There's no justice in this world.

edit - I'm an idiot.  I thought those scores Nix posted above were updated for this past week.  They're not.   :hmpf:

The main problem with this Fall Madness compared to the last one is the fact that characters are very hard to categorize. With the first one, the episodes were pitted against eachother by their rank on CGEF, so the matches were already divided by popularity anyway & turned out a little fairer in the middle rounds, whereas now - the characters have been placed into categories by time origin/species, and has often resulted in stupid one-sided polls such as "Hermes vs Leela". I mean, we all know who's going to win that.

Still, aside from that (and aside from the fact that many important characters such as the Robot Devil were left out), this is going pretty well so far... or maybe I'm just saying that because I'm now ranked third.  :p

However, if there was to be a Fall Madness 2005, what would it be for? I mean, we've done episodes and characters... what comes next?
