Now that i have your attention.

The Simpsons, gets better as the seasons go one where as Futurama is the reverse.

As the seasons go on, the episodes seem to get, not so much 'worse' but rather as the stories and plots become more elaborate they tend to lose story value.

The animation and the characters get better yet the stories themselves tend to be more concerned with locations, animation and characterisation.

I there exceptions. But there are eps' that either aren't very funny, or are kinda boring and/or pointless. (Were-car, the one where Lela gets stung by a bee.)

Perhaps its the writers or the fact that they didn't prove how good the show is to anyone after a few seasons, and they weren't challenged anymore by certain types of stories.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not dissing Futurama, (if i was would i have brought all the the DVD's and post in this forum?)

I like Futurama much better then Simpsons, and i even think that it had more potential.

Has any one else noticed this?  Comments?

P.S - I apoligise to anyone who was expectng porn.

I disagree with everything you just said, Neil.  The Simpsons has been getting worse and worse  since season 8, and my favorite Futurama season happens to be season 4.

I tend to disagree with everything you said too. The Simpsons has been running out of steam for a while. Futurama started out slow, but got better with each ep. Also,  don't inappropriate thread names just to grab attention violate some rule? I'm probably imagining things.

As I've said before, if anything season three is where Futurama REALLY took off.  The first two seasons are great as well, but seasons three and four made the show the best so far of the 2000s.

As for The Simpsons, it has gotten better and better lately, but I'd otherwise agree with the sentiment that it isn't currently as good as it was pre-season 9.

Are you insane? "The Sting" was one of the best episodes in the entire 4ACV batch. Funny, trippy, well-anmated, and a playing a somewhat significant role in the furtherment of the Fry/Leela romance.

And I agree with DoTheBartman, while season 1 and 2 had some great and funny episodes, Futurama really took off with the 3ACV batch. Humor and emotions in a (usually) perfect mix, personified by the first two episodes "Amazon Women In The Mood" and "Parasites Lost".

The Simpsons, well I don't enjoy the new episodes as much as the classics, and have a hard time spotting any drastic change, but can see some improvement here and there.

Little advice: don't do the "PORN!! .. but now that I have your attention"-trick. People usually end up ignoring your thread, because they can't remember what it's about. Also it's just not good taste.

Where's the porn? This thread should be closed for being off-topic.

I haven't seen all the Futurama eps yet, but have been watching them in order, and they *definitely* get better as the series progress

I disagree completly, Futurama is getting better and better. Don't get me wrong, the Simpsons are good too, but they are getting better and a slower pace, and after season 8, as other people have said, they've gone down hill. But never say that Futurama is getting worse, cause they are progressing, the only episode I never liked was a Leela of Her Own. I liked it and all, just not as much as the Sting, which you should never ever diss again.

I came here *porn joke*, and I get a kick in the theoretical pants over who is aging better, Simpsons or Futurama?!?

Hands down the Futurama writers found their comfort zones with the characters because it got better with each season. And (IMHO) season 5 was just to wrap some things up for the fans (us) because they knew they were getting canned. Thats why (IMHO) they seem taped together.. Imagine not having the 5th season.. No Sting.. No Devils Hands.. .. no semi-closeure.

Dissapointment. Same as saying "Free Food" and not having any.. or Porn.. you evil bastard.

And dissing The Sting is a No-No especially when your discussing the evolution of the series.. It changed the character relationships.. do you just stare at the picture and drool? or do you follow the story?

I keep adding to this..

SEX! Now that I've got your attention, vote for Bart!
Heh heh, anyway, I sort of kind of not agree with you. I'd say the Simpsons got better (3-8), then worse (9-12), then a bit better again (13-present). Futurama has been good its entire run, getting better with seasons 2 and 3. But, as unclean as it makes me feel, I kind of agree that in season 4, people started getting a little lazy with some mediocore episodes (examples: "Bend Her," "Crimes of the Hot," "KGNUAN" <-- not just mediocore, WORST EPISODE EVER!) I would also mention "Leela's Homeworld," but everybody loves that episode so much that I can't dump on it without getting pounced on. And as for "The Sting," that one was OK, but not great. And I wasn't going to dump it either, but character development?! That piece... sorry, must control anger. But, we also had some really good episodes that season (per example "Love and Rocket," "Farnsworth Parabox," "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles" ). Yeah, so, I don't know, but there were more average episodes in season 4 than 3. Make with it what you will.

Can I just say, a lot of people are saying that season 4 was the best of the batch and I agree that there are some fine episodes in there, but I'd have to concede that by Season 4, the bag in the writers room marked "Classic Gags" was nearly empty and most of the episodes were instead made up from the bags marked "Good Gags" and "Non-Sequiters". The character development and plots were on top form, but they did seem be running out of steam in the comedy department it must be said.  :hmpf:

I have to say Mcneil, what you just said is probably the biggest load of horse S*it ive ever heard about Futurama. Futurama got MUCH better as the series went on. Later episodes like Sting, Why of Fry, Roswell that Ends Well, Jurassic Bark highly outrank those from the 1st 2 seasons. While the simpsons in my mind got MUCH worse as they went on b/c they lost their edginess and got more and more boring to watch.

You mean, "The Sting"?
I've shown that episode to people who didn't know of Futurama, and made them enjoy the show... Yea I think season 4 had a slight down-trend, but the last few episodes were masterpieces... in my opinion anyway.

I think that Futurama was good throughout its run! Season one had some amazing episodes as did season 2! Season three is the best season of anything i have ever seen and season four had some amazing episodes aswell!
The Simpsons however I have to say, started boring! Honestly any episode from season 1-4 compared with absolutely any episode of Futurama, is completely boring! Seasons 5-10 of the Simpsons had some amazingly good episodes! But it is now getting worse and worse except for a few episodes! But it is still being shown because it has always been more popular than Futurama among most people as well as FOX execs.
One only wonders what would have happened if Futurama had been more popular and would have continued for the amount of seasons that the Simpsons has! Would Futurama have gone down hill as well???

to answer sm@'s question, no it wouldn't have, futurama is to perfect to have any episodes as horible as a few of the simpsons eps, i mean i love the simpsons and all, but some of those episodes and story's were just plain pointless and stupid, as and worst eps of futurama i can think of (ALOHO and KGNUAN) they were only bad compared to the rest of futurama, but with some of the simpsons eps, they would have been great. all i'm trying to say is, the best of futurama is like the best of the simpsons, so if futurama started to get worse, it would be just as good as if the simpsons started getting better

:Yay for getting the joke: So anyway, the Simpsons ought to just go on hiatus for a good while. They said they were gonna make a movie.. I think they should finish this season, do the movie and call it quits. It's one stale donut. Even the new episodes have good lines of course, but they're few and far between. I don't worry about the writers and actors on the show.. I'm sure they'll find jobs. But man, it's gone on for way too long, and I doubt Futurama would be doing any better after so many seasons.

Well that comment about simpsons seasons 1-4 honestly baffles me (and season ten being good?  Are you f%$#ing kidding me?).  And I should point out that the Fox executives hate The Simpsons and have before it every declined.  They just can't cancel it because if they did the stockholders would think they had gone completely bonkers.  It makes too much money for them to cancel it and say with a straight face that it was a justified cancellation.  Futurama wasn't in that kind of situation (regardless of who's fault that is) and thus it is no longer on the air.

As for your last question: hard to say.  But thinking about if it had even gone to, say, season 8 is actually kind of amusing to me.  It would have been almost comical if, by season 7 or so, the internet was filled with "this show sucks now, why is it still on?!" type posts.  And believe me, that would have happened, considering no show that goes past a second season doesn't at least start to see that kind of criticism.

I'll be yet another to disagree with your opinion.  I think Futurama followed a very similar pattern to the Simpsons.  The Simpsons didn't come crashing out of the box.  Many people say it started to get really good in seasons 3-4.  Futurama was the same way.  Seasons 1 and 2 were great, but it really became refined in season 3.

The Simpsons however got the benefit of being a relatively new type of show (prime time animation) on a young network.  I'm a firm believer that if the Simpsons were a new show today, it would probably suffer the same fate as Futurama (despite seasons 1 and 2 being pretty good).  Fox is a big shot network where small brained executives don't have patience to grow a show for the ADD afflicted viewer who has 500 cable channels.  No instant ratings?  Get rid of it!  Add more Cops!  This ties in with what DotheBarman mentioned, the execs would love to knock off the Simpsons.  It's much cheaper to make The Swan or whatever.  It makes me wonder if reality shows have ruined the ability of written shows to succeed.

If you ask me, season 2 was Futurama's peak. I got the third season on DVD, and while it was good, it lacked the punch of season 2. All that shippiness is wearing on my nerves. It's just turning Fry into Zoidberg.

Why do some people seem to think 3-4 were just nothing but shipper episodes. I mean seriously how many really focused on Fry and Leela.
Parasites Lost, Time Keeps on skipping.
Unless my memory of season 3's gone blank for a minute. those were the only Fry and Leela episodes in season 3. and in 4 there was The Sting, Farnsworth Parabox and Devils hands are idle playthings, with a hint of it in Love and Rocket and a tiny amount in The Why Of Fry.
but even so all these episodes still had a lot of other things going on. and Seasons 1 and 2 both had moments of shipperness. and sometimes pretty contrived tacked on emotion.

I'm among those that say season 3 and 4 were better in pretty much all aspects. Mouse on Venus I Cant say I particulary noticed. although I guess I do remember a couple of the best quotes coming from season 2.
Anyway Simpsons got better, declined got a little better and continues to as people have said.
although actually It didn't just get better and better I'd say it jumps around as to whats best
for me I'd say from best to worst
7,4,6,8,5,3,2,1,9,13=14,10,12,11.
the U.K'S only halfway thorugh season 15, but it could in my opinion beat season 9.
