I'm not sure which was actively in production for a longer time.  Home Movies had some very long hiatuses: There was a space of well over a year between its first six episodes and the rest of the first season, and last year only two new episodes were shown.  Of course, if Futurama hadn't been delayed it would've ended nearly two years ago.  Even so, Futurama had more episodes overall.  And it's just better than Home Movies, so there.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP!

I just realised from gotfuturama.com that today is Futurama's 6th birthday. Our favorite show was launched on March 28th 1999.

Once again Happy Birthday Futurama.

And interestingly enough, this was the FIRST thread I ever started here on PEEL, on my 8th day as a member.

Man, you're right, I did used to spam alot...

So anyway, once again, HAPPY 6th FUTURAMA!!!

Wow, with the thread saying "Happy 5th," I spent about two full minutes trying to figure out how that was possible, until I clicked on it, noticing that the thread was posted last year, and that it was in fact Futurama's 6th b-day. Jeez, my brain hurts now. >_<

Yes, Happy 6th Birthday to Futurama! Woo-hoo!

6 years old. That means Futurama is in 1st grade! Woo-hoo! Go little 1st grader, go!

I really hope that Futurama gets back one now. IT MUST!

And for anybody who hasn't signed the petition, it's here. SIGN IT IF YOU HAVEN'T! NOW!

Huzzah for Futurama! Like T-Veronica, I sat there confused for a second. 6 years old, eh? In two more years it will be half my age then, if that makes any sense in the way I stated it.

As for the petition, FOX doesn't really look at those. You're better off buying the DVDs. Sure, they help, but you can just as easily sign hundreds of times, and they don't count the XYGSDB ones neither. That's what got Family Guy back, that's what's (hopefully) get Futurama back.

Now lets all eat cake!

Wow, it's hard to believe that it started so long ago. I was a 6-year-old, about to move to California. 9-11 hadn't happened yet. Clinton was President...shall I go on?

Anyway, happy birthday, Futurama! Now let us eat cake! (It's chocolatey.)

6 years, to think I've spent 6 years watching this show, and for what, I'll tell you what, so I could burn and quote classic lines to piss people off.

I salute thee Futurama.

For what it's worth, I signed the petition. Anywho, as i_c_weiner pointed out, Futurama's now a first grader! Awww. And wow, six years ago seems like forever when you're thinking back on it. I was only 9 years old. Jeez. Makes me feel young, though! ^_^

Noninteresting fact: Futurama's birthday is two days before William Marsh Rice's.

Happy 6th to the greatest show in the Universe.

EDIT: Got distracted.  I'd tell Eyedol to go screw himself, but for the number of times I've seen him corrected about trivial details.

I wrote a poem to commemorate the occasion, using my own special "how the fuck does that rhyme" brand of poetry.

Your show is cancelled,
Your family hates you,
Your girlfriend likes brocolli,
And you look like Woody Allen!

Which is a roundabout way of saying 'Yay Futurama.'

Doesn't a national anthem need to have words? (Seriously. I don't know if it does or doesn't.)
Can someone care to elaborate?

That's the most beautiful thing i've ever heard...

Happy 6th to Futurama...  That must mean I was 13 when it aired... Ah, sweet Futurama arrived just in time to get me through those cursed teen years. Bless it.

Another uninteresting side-note, I can remember the moment I first learned of Futurama.  I was sitting in McDonald's with my Mother who was reading the newspaper, when she pointed out to me a small article saying that Matt Groening was in the works of creating a new animated show about a delivery boy who gets frozen and awakens in the future... At least that's how I remember it happening.

Does anyone know when it first aired in Australia though..? You didn't know a year ago, but you might have found out by now?

There is at least ONE nation that doesn't have any words in it's anthem... but I can't remember what it is.

Happy, happy birthday Futurama!
So that was unoriginal...but I really mean it. ("How much?" "A lot." ) No really, I can't hardly believe it's been 6 years already. Bummer I didn't know beforehand, I would've celebrated. But I'll remember the next time, especially because it's the day before Eric Idle's birthday.

According to imdb.com, the Australian release date was exactly December 2nd 1999. (Interesting fact 54: two days before my birthday). But it's good you mentioned this, because I've never checked this out before. Apparently the Icelandic release date was October 4th 2000! Wow, we really were late.

Thanks AsaB!

Of course I should have thought to check IMDB... It knows pretty much everything. Uninteresting fact: Futurama aired in Australia exactly 3 months after my birthday! So there we go...

Poor old Hungary got Futurama in November 2001.

On 2 December 1999 the following films were released in Australia:
Brokedown Palace (1999)
Crazy in Alabama (1999)
Detroit Rock City (1999)
Heaven (1998)
Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)
Savior (1998)
Third Man, The (1949)
Three to Tango (1999)
Toy Story 2 (1999)

On March 28 1999 the following films were released in USA:
Classe de neige, La (1998)
Haut bas fragile (1995)
Je suis vivante et je vous aime (1998)
One Night In Eden (1998) (V)
Wrestlemania XV (1999) (V)

December 2 1999 was a Thursday.

Sorry, I got a little carried away with useless facts there for a moment.

Wrestlemania XV was a movie? And please forgive my ignorance, but what are those first three films? Are the foreign or what? And what does the V next to th last two items listed mean?

I have no idea. That's what it said on IMDb. The v might mean video, that's all I can think of.
The names of those first three films do look a little off, but they were listed! They must be foreign films that were released in America.
Actually I just checked the English titles:
Classe de neige, La
Also Known As:
Class Trip (UK) (festival title)

Haut bas fragile
Also Known As:
Up, Down, Fragile (USA)

Je suis vivante et je vous aime
Also Known As:
I'm Alive and I Love You (USA) (festival title)

Wow this is seriously off topic, I have to stop.

It's been five years since Futurama hit the airwaves, and surprisingly people still are faithful to the show.  Even though  it didn't last as long as we would liked it to, at least it still has a huge fanbase.  If only it would come back.  At least we have the comic books, the DVDs, and the websites.

Happy Birthday Futurama!
