Does anybody know this date?? If so, then this should be the date of Robanukah. If not then there is a way to decide upon another date.... what was the birthday of the guy who coined the word "robot" ? He wrote a play, and he was Czech, but that's all I know.

So, anybody know either date?

Karel Capek was born on 9th January 1890 and died on 25th December 1938.  If anyone knows of an official birthdate for Bender, they're a bigger geek than me.

The Robanukah poll was closed down!
Now how will we now get a clear verdict of the date for our new international holiday?
I guess I'll just count the replies here, I'm hoping for April 20th.... I can't wait to make a punch that looks like Slurm! And dance like a robot! And drink lots of beer! Oh, and my walking Gender Bender puppet will finally come in handy!   :D

For further reference, you should search for a thread before making one that may already exist. The mods are just doing there jobs, don't take it personally.

Anyway, I'd vote for April 20th.

As I suggested in the poll, we could also celebrate the other robot holidays, and then (almost) everybody is happy. Robonza, the drinking contest, can be on March 28; Robomadon can be on April 20; and Robonuka can be on August 10th, or whatever.

Check your sources. The Leela Zone and the DVD subtitles spell it 'Robonza'  :p[/small]

Um, Nix, wouldn't it have been more prudent to close this thread and leave the poll open?  That was sort of the whole idea behind the poll, wasn't it?

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea.  I even sort of like this distribution.  But Robomadan should be a whole lunar month.  Maybe April 20 - May 18.

OK, I think everyone who wanted to has gotten a chance to vote in this important question! I summarized the votes, and came to the following conclusion:

April 20th: around 40-44%
August 10th: around 56-60%

Yeah, I think you might be right, the majority of August 10th voters is just too small for the April 20th voters to feel convinced  :p Robanza and Robamadan might satisfy some, but not all...

Anyways, my suggestion is simply that we divide into two groups that eventually will become mortal enemies in the distant future. Personally, I will join the orthodox April 20th wing, since I just got a "Happy Robanukah" shirt for birthday!   :laff:

I dunno, I kinda think we should celebrate on March 28 or April 20.  Generally, you celebrate the first occasion of something, not its death. Putting Robanukah in August would be too depressing. We should focus on the positive legacy of Futurama.

April 20th. I don't want to be celebrating Robanukah just before exams! Besides, August is ages away.

I agree with April 20th. Making it the release date of FOABP makes sense! If we add it the other religeons and the different branches of Robannukah, then people with small brains like me will get confused! April 20th! It's closer, too. (Why isn't there a PEEL meet in the U.S.? Is there? When?)

Yeah, we should decide before April 20th, so that we can celebrate it if that is the chosen date. We have a little less than a month left, so perhaps we should set a deadline? And we should count up the total votes (even from the closed poll) every now and then along the way. April 20th, people!   ;)

It should be a few weeks before hand, in order to properly prepare.

Deadline should be March 31, that gives you a week to decide and vote. It also means it doesn't fall on April 1, where people will assume it's a joke.

On an ironic note, March 30th is the date that the final episode of Futurama is airing on Cartoon Network...Agh! (I agree, BTW) Agh! My school orchestra is taking a field trip to Disney World that day! I won't see the results 'til a week after! Oh, well...Because I won't be able to say it then, I'll say it now: Vote for April 20th, people! (Have I said that enough? Good.)  :)

OK, so we set the deadline for voting to March 31st. You can only choose between April 20th or August 10th. If you have voted several times, it will be the latest vote that counts. I will count the votes given as replies in this and the closed thread, but not the poll (since that would probably mean I'd be counting some votes twice).

Right now, I estimated the votes to be leaning slightly towards August 10th (votes are either 9:11 or 10:10 depending on where Canned Eggs vote truly lies)...
Who said one vote never made a difference!   ;)

Go April 20th!!!   :D

I'll support April 20th.  That's the date most of the people most likely to actually participate voted for.  It'll be nice to think of a synchronized worldwide observance.  Everybody get to planning.

I throw my support with the April 20th people. It just makes sense because it was when the episode aired. So I guess people start planning.

HURRAY!!!
We've now passed the deadline, and the winner date is....
APRIL 20th  :D

Robanukah should contain lots of beer, robot decorations, and robot-dancing (to klezmer music)! Other suggestions are to serve "lugnuts" (i.e. doughnuts), some punch or drink that's similar to slurm, martinis, and what else... I guess this will be like  most holidays, there's a core that's the same, but with some variations around the world   :p

Well, at least I can promise a great party in Sweden, but it would be so cool to know that it's celebrated the same day in other parts of the world... anyone with me?!?  :)

Someone asked earlier if there was a PEEL meet in the US. I hope so, but it's such a big country, how could people get together? Is there? If so then when and where?

One more thing - Robanukah is meant to be for two weeks. So are the celebrations on April 20th the start of the two weeks, the end of the two weeks, somewhere in the middle, or the only day of Robanukah? Whichever way, April 20 should be the main celebration.

Why not May? You could party till late nite and it would still be day! There could be a giant cake (choclate of course) that looked like Bender. May is the only month that doesn't have a good holiday (although my mom would think different). But where would you have it? There are so many details that we all need to fill in.
