Does futurama have the best original music in a TV show ever?

What say you, single female lawyer? (also anyone else who cares to answer).

(I hope this is the right catagory, but I have a feeling this may be a little too off topic.)

I think Tyng's music ranges from the awesome to the sublime.  He has an astonishing talent for arrangement, and what's really cool is he's come up with this sort of future aesthetic that has a really avant-garde, 1960s-view-of-the-future sort of style that complements the visual style of the show perfectly.  I've never heard a piece of incidental music from Futurama I wasn't at least a little impressed with.

And the main theme is the mutt's nuts.  It's one of the big things that initially attracted me to the show.  Call it derivative if you want, but good musicians borrow, and great musicians steal.

My favorite peice of music from Futurama is the christmas theme at the end of the episode "X-mas story".

Christopher Tyng does some of the best music on tv shows(don't know if he ever did a movie score.). He also does music on "The O.C" which is cool.

Yeah the show's got cool music. They should've made an OST.

(If they did, please continue reading)

What, they did? OMG, gotta go buy it!

No.  It has some of the best music ever written for TV, but my love of Danny Elfman (The Simpsons theme, the Tales From the Crypt theme) prevents me from naming Futurama's music THE best original music in a TV show ever.  It's in the top 5, though.

Chris Tyng, Danny Elfman, and Alf Clausen compose some of the best music I've ever heard on TV. The musicians on both of Matt Groening's shows are first class.

I think that the show has both the best original music (race scene in TMLH springs to mind) and the most appropriate music by other artists (ends of Jurassic Bark and TMLH, as well as the archetypal college rock song for Love and Rocket). Also, I cracked up when Baby Got Back was referred to as classical music.

The theme tune ranks as my all-time favourite TV theme tune - in fact, I'm listening to it this moment. I was doing some homework and selected my Futurama playlist to listen to. That is evidence of either really good music or an obsessive fan. Or both  :D

I agree with your comment about choosing the best music by other artists. "The Luck of the Fryrish", "Leela's Homeworld", and "Jurassic Bark" are a few examples. If you go back and look at those episodes and look at the scenes featuring the songs, they just seem like the best choices to play the mood and enhance the episode.

Nope.  Cowboy Bebop.  No contest.  Yoko Kanno is a genius of composing and whatnot.

Never heard it, but I've heard it's mostly Jazz. I like jazz. Lots.

Actually, that's a good point.  The Bebop really is sublimely awesome too.  Hmmm... Yoko Kanno/Seatbelts or Chris Tyng?  Tough one.  I think Spineless might be right though.

Bebop does have an excellent theme I must admit although I watch Futurama more than that so I may as well plump for Tyng here.

I had a remix of the futurama theme tune at one time, someone mentioned it so I did a search, found some info and posted a link.

I'm doing the same here so more peeps can read and discuss (maybe)  ;)

check it

Edit.  Just been reading some old posts, this has been discussed/mentioned so nevermind.

yeah maybe it is better than i thought. the opening beboxes kick large ass. and the songs that are sung by the cast are pretty ridiculous too. dont you forget about me is a great touch for luck of the fryish, and the robot devil song is just inhumanely funked.

I think my fav song on the show is the 'punk' type tune that the whole cast sing when the credits roll.
I can't remember what episode it was though.

I love that little piece of music at the end of A Bicyclops Built For Two. That just made the episode.

I believe it was also used in The Series Has Landed, but I think that Leela talked over the end bit, calling a bit less attention to it then.
