i was watching a bit of red dwarf today, and a bit of futurama, the idea has struck me... WHY NOT...

if futurama is over (in the way of production), why not have a new cartoon set in the same universe, but the main characters are zapp brannigan and kif? with planet express crew coming into it rarely...

i expect criticism out of this... but have your say people

I fail to see the point here.

If Futurama's been cancelled, what the hell makes you think they'd allow a Futurama spin-off?

While Zapp is cool enough to have his own show I can't see there being any spin-offs from Futurama.

It could work in theory but it has all the same problems of a Futurama resurrection (FOX hate everything Futurama related, Cartoon Network can't afford it and they could have problems getting a decent number of Futurama writers back to write it) and if they can get around those problems then I think most Futurama fans would prefer the original show to make a comeback.

I recall there being a thread about something like this... but i can't remember the name of it... might have been in Human Resorce dept.

I do recall suggesting that (If anything) a skit/sketch show may work with Zapp and Kif... But i'm still not really in favour of it.

EDIT : Thread Found

Futurama is too worthy of a cartoon to have a spinoff.  'Nuff said!

I think Zapp is great in Futurama, but I don't think a show based on Zapp and Kif would work.

Sure, they add a lot of spice to Futurama but there just isn't enough about them to make it last.

I'd give it 5 episodes before it became stale and boring.

However, a Zoidberg spinoff.....   ;)

...would totally suck krill.  :p

I think that a normal episode of Futurama perhaps based from Zapp's perspective could work though. There comes a time in many animation series' when they start tweeking the formula of how an episode works, and whilst I definitely wouldn't have wanted them to go as far as clip shows, spinoff showcases and Behind The Future, an episode more based around Zapp and Kif could work, providing the PE crew were featured somewhere (so that you wouldn't think it was a different show entirely).

spin-off...eh. no thanks. i'd rather they produce a final season answering all our questions and go out with a bang. make it a season just for DVD and not worry about airing it.

would it be called a spinoff? or merely an expansion on the big universe that groening has created... by the way, who was the individual/s responsible for cancelling futurama? i want their names  :D and if rupert murdoch is responsible as well, i'll grab a beer can full of kero and pelt it at him i would.... mmaaaybe not that ferocious...

mouse that woulda been a good thought too, to have even one episode with zap as the main character.. well either way, i just feel he's a character that there's more to him than meets the eye, sure he's a pompous git but he's so funny at it  :D
