Hey I got an e-mail from C4 2day about futurama being censored, heres what they wrote:

Thanks for your email regarding Futurama. The programme was bought and is scheduled for a 6 o'clock slot. From time to time small edits have to be made in order for us to comply with the ITC code. It was bought for 6 o'clock because that is a part of the day where you get a broad family audience. The show appeals to both and younger and adult audience, however we have to ensure that it is suitable for a pre-watershed audience.

Kind Regards

So what's to be done now?

So, it appeals to kids, BUT is full of swearing? In other words:

"Dear Whiner,
Screw you Tonto and the horse you rode in on. We screwed up, but there's no way we're changing our schedule.

"From time to time small edits have to be made in order for us to comply"
Time to time? have they shown a single episode that wasn't cut yet? and they are not small edits, they cut out Benders most frequently used words.

When are they going to get it though their thick skulls that Futurama is not a family show like the simpsons, the main characters of the show are all single and in their 20's so how is it a family show? is it just because its animated

Its more a family show than Futurama since its based on a family.
The Simpsons is the type of show that appeals to all ages, doesn't that make it a family show?

Ok I'm really pissed off even more  When I went to work today at 8am and I had a break at 9am I was watching Sister Sister on C4. The ep was about Black history and they use the words "Black man" and "Black Woman" Now why did Channel 4 allowed to use those words at 9am! For got sake. That's stupid! Guess Channel 4 doesn't give a fuck about Futurama.

Then when I came back from work I watched The Simpsons on BBC 2 the tonight's episode was about Homer feared for his family when they made friends with John who is gay. (I like that ep a lot) Now 6pm at the same time like Futurama. BBC2 didn't cut the words "Ass" and "queer" Channel 4 won't let "Ass" used on Futurama.

But why Channel 4 like things happen in Hollyyolks like a bit of swearing and some sexual themes happen at the fucking same time as Futurama! There got to be a way to show Channel 4 that us U.K. Futurama fans are very upset on what they are treating to this show. Are the Futurama protest posts going to be sent to Channel 4? I hope so it let them know that we think that they are a bunch of bastards!

There are families in South Park, so I guess that's a family show too, then, huh?  And what appeals to those of the younger persuasion (AKA under 13) other than it being a cartoon and the occasional potty humor?  Just because it portrays a family that miracuously manages to stay together through love for each other, doesn't make it family friendly.

Sorry if this seems like I'm going on a bizarre rant, but this is something I feel strongly about.

I gotta agree with Slurm that the Simpsons is more of a family show than Futurama. My five year old neice loves it, and my ten year old cousin is a Simpsons freak. They get totally different things from it - they like Bart telling the teacher to 'Eat my shorts' and the school parts, but they fast forward past Homer in Moe's. Bart and Lisa's stories are pretty child-friendly.
Kids I know can relate to the younger characters, and bratty ten year old boys love South Park for the potty humour. Both those shows are designed for adults but have elements that appeal to children, so I could understand cuts being made in those, as there is likely to be some type of under-13 audience.
But Futurama? No way is there anything in there that kids would like. I doubt C4 will get a young audience no matter what time they show it, so they needn't bother to cut it. It's an adult show like SP and the Simpsons but it doesn't have the child-friendly elements the other two have.
If any of that makes sense. . .

I can agree with this. On the whole, Futurama has way more sex/cursing/whatever than The Simpsons.

That's crazy. Even when I was eight, I knew Homer was the best Simpson.

I SO disagree. Why edit the show into something it's not? The show is intended for adults. I personally think most episodes of The Simpsons are ok for kids, but that's not the point. They shouldn't censor an episode just because kids find some aspects of the show appealing.

Also, in the case of South Park, kids only watch it because of the cursing and farting or whatever. If you censor it for the kids, the kids won't watch it.

Are you kidding? Just the fact that it's a cartoon already makes it appealing to children. Plus it's about robots and space ships and aliens and stuff. Kids love things like that.

Of course, I don't think it should be edited like that--it IS an adult show. But don't think that children won't like it just because there are no annoying child characters that they can relate to.

Edited adult shows to make them suitable for kids is just gay, why don't they edit kids shows to make more suitable for adults, like making the Teletubies swear, get stoned and have sex with each other.

Here, I am trying to think like a TV exec. They know kids are watching, they know parents will object and they will have stock replies to angry letters to send out. I'm not saying it makes sense, but in a skewed way I can see where they're coming from. They don't censor cop shows because they don't have a child audience whose parents will be offended by the guns.

Fair point. I'm kind of looking back to when I was a kid and the Simpsons started. That was what appealed to most of my friends about it, the kid characters. But kid shows pre-Simpsons sucked so much that they were revolutionary at the time. Maybe kids are different now *feels her age* but that's how it was at first. I guess it's different for kids who grew up on Matt Groening, they might have taste or something.   :D

oye.  that's the most moronic thing I've heard all day.  So what you are saying is that if i make a show about a dad who beats his kids, rapes his daughter, and a mom who runs drugs for the mafia and shoots babies... Is that a family show?  just because it is ABOUT a family.

and yea Simpsons appeals to kids... so to drugs though...  things that are "bad/edgy/adult/etc" always appeal to kids, but that doesn't mean those things are appropriate for kids...  eating candy all day appeals to kids too.. ..  :)

No, I never said that ALL shows based on familys are family shows.
I think Simpsons is aimed at both kids and adults while Futurama is mainly aimed at teens and adults.

Yeah the cuts wasn't that bad on that ep, it's good that they didn't cut the sauna scene.

But on "Put your head on my shoulders" they cut out my fave scene where Bender can't go pimping, what's wrong with that?

- NEW NEW YORK POST EXTRACT -

The Case Of Farms vs Freak:

After a fierce legal battle, Petridge Farms was sued for every last penny he had for extreme acts of foot-grabbing.

My client has expressed deep sorrow and regret and has since responded by joining Messr's Brannigan, Fry and Bender in hauling lightweight pillows to high gravity planets for large sums of cash.

My thanks, and goodnight. Don't forget to tip your waitress on the way out.
