Hmmm, maybe that's why I disliked it. It seemed superfluous to the action sequence.

It was obviously filler to an action sequence. They had nothing better to put in there (or did they?)than a short, lame line.

They could've, oh, I don't know, left the scene silent? Seems to me it'd have worked just as nicely with just the screaming and alarmed faces instead of adding what I consider a forced line.

It must of seen like an empty gap in the script, so they added it. If so, then it definitely filler.

A lot of jokes are basically just filler, and it would be bad to leave a good spot for a joke blank or just not have enough jokes in a scene generally. That said, it was a lame line.

The trailers were terrible too, on that note. Lots of jokes that didn't work out of context or even just random things that weren't jokes in the first place. And they used that line.

From Prisoner of Benda-
Zoidberg: Friends! I have barnacles on my tookus!

Ugh.

From Series Has Landed-
Fry: Can I cut in line? (paraphrasing here)
Guy in Line: Ummm...Mmm...Mmm...No.

I know it wasn't supposed to be hilarious but I always thought this part was annoying and useless. They went to commercial on that.

I love that barnacles line. It's one of my favourite parts of that episode, in fact.

It's supposed to be somewhat laboured - I assumed that part of the joke.

Correct.

And Zoidberg uses words like "tookus" all the time, I really don't see why you can dislike this line.

Heh, I liked the barnacles. It was a pretty easy gag, as soon as Fry said he was looking for a disgusting body it was clear Zoidberg's would be it. But it was still amusing.

The fact that I can hear that guy's voice in my head doing his little muttering suggests that line had some impact on me. Sure, not super funny, but I was never irritated by it.

I also liked the barnacles line. The fact that it was really predictable made it even better! :laff:

Like I said, I sort of thought that was part of the joke. Like, it was so obvious that Zoidberg was going to be the disgusting answer to their question that they just went with the most ridiculous, over the top, stupid Zoidberg-y line for him to say.

Ah, okay, fair enough. It was pretty much just an excuse for Zoidberg to say "tuckus".

By itself, that line would've been pretty terrible. But Hermes saved it with "The long search is over."

Yeah, I like Hermes' line. I think lesser tv shows have soured me on random jokes, which Zoidberg has a few of now and then.

You can enjoy admittedly lame things. Lame does not always mean unlikeable. It can be uncultured, pathetic, corny, etc, and yet you can still enjoy it.

Like a lot of things Zoidberg says.

Things like "You live in the universe but never do things things until someone comes to visit" and "That offer... was for a limited time only" are amusing because they're lame.

Others are just lame, full stop.

Leela's Homeworld:

Leela: I'm sorry you saw that, Fry. I usually try to keep my sadness pent up inside where it can fester quietly as a mental illness.

Fry: Yeah, I do that with my stupidness.

I really don't like Fry's line there. It just lacks character, motivation, and humor. Oh, and it's kinda lame. :hmpf: It could have worked (in my opinion) if the delivery was better (I suppose with a different direction for acting out the line).

I going to take the time to respond to this comment with a cheap line form the show: "That was uncalled for!" How's that for cheap?

Easy would have been: "Let's get ready to rumble." I always liked this line. It replaces all of the normal words with unnecessary verbose synonyms. I find it humorous.

I thought that line was okay; not brilliant, but acceptable. It doesn't really seem like a very 'Leela' thing to say though.
