He probably is to a certain degree, but his opinion means nothing (perhaps sadly).  He's had little to do with the show since around season four or so, and he also doesn't have the power to kill it.  Only Fox does, barring nearly everyone on the staff or a key cast member deciding to quit the show.

Anyways, when discussing the cost of making each Futurama episode, it is a lot but consider that not only are some of the salariles probably pretty good, but also that they have to pay a LOT of people.  The price tag is spread around to all the producers, writers, animators, voice actors', etc that work on each episode.  So in actuality I would doubt that anyone other then David Cohen got particularly wealthy off the show (aside from Groening, who doesn't need to worry about money anymore for obvious reasons).

what is different in their personal taste (whose taste ? Executives' ?): political, religious, social, moral or esthetic matters ?

well what if FOX is just doing this cancelling thing while Matt G. and his group create new episodes, then they will release Futurama again with the new episodes.  this also happened to the simpsons, no new episodes, then voom! a totally new season! also they did that with family guy.  maybe FOX is doing this.

someone needs to start a petion that futurama was an excellent show it just got ripped off the network beacuse of poor placement of time. If you look at other futuama r.i.p websites they all pretty much say it was a great, funny show i just never knew when it was on. we cant just sit here while fox takes away a great show and puts ANOTHER reality tv show.

It's been done before, and if I recall, there were a LOT of signatures.

They hate it because Matt didn't let them in on the development process, thus they kill it for revenge.

Hey maybe we can get sci-fi to ressurect Futurama....  They bring back everybody else's shows....

On a sidenote... Slider's was ruined because they drug it out longer than it should've been...  Cromagnons (or whatever the hell they were) was a stupid point to get stuck on and by the end of everything said and done, it was more like Sliders "next generation" than anything :\

Damnit, where is Seven of Nine, when we need her?

PCC Fred: "She's in astrometrics lab, with me."

"Oh, okay. Carry on, mr Williams."

PCC Fred: "With pleasure, Sir!"

@ Shadowed: Another reason Futurama died, was that FOX never understood the show. They simple didn't get what the magic thing was. For further explanation, see my post in this thread (particular this one) and this post.

i've got an idea to put Futurama back on the air.  For those of you who use MSN hotmail, do you know what chain letters are?  The are e-mails that say "forward this e-mail to all your friends and you will get...".  There are also signature e-mails e.g.: a month ago I got an e-mail which said "there is a movie out which offends the christian religion.  Take this page, copy and paste on a new e-mail, except at the bottom write your signature.  If we can get 500 signatures and show them to the movie studio they won't show the movie in theatres, or make a DVD".  I plan on doing that, except planning on getting more than 1,000 signatures, to really show that stupid FOX.

Well, I stumbled upon this thread for the first time... don't diss the insane Japanese show, man! It's fuckin' crazy it is!

Also, no bloody hotmail forwards. I delete them on site... it is also annoying when you get one, and then you get another, and another, as your friends get them and they all send it to you...

I'm pretty fond of Doomsville.
I wouldn't mind if the show made a comeback and only had to change the name.

Pretty difficult to do, seeing as the characters are copyrighted as well.

No, that wont work.

As for why: same reason a mouse in blue pants called Rickey would land you a lawsuit from Disney.

And if you change the characters just enough to avoid being sued, then it really isn't Futurama after all, is it?

Now that Futurama's popularity is soaring, maybe it's a good sign that it will come back!  After all, there is talks about the movies in the works.

Only vaguely related but was watching vol4dvd4 earlier and watched the cut openers. These two in particular made me laugh, barbs at fox' treatment of the show

I would just like to say that it seems like the FOX Network and people who don't like Futurama just because it isn't like The Simpsons all want to see the Futurama characters die a slow, painful, grisly death.  Either that or what happened to the bad guys in the stupid Disney rendition of Robin Hood.  That's how the FOX Network and Simpsons fanatics seemed to want to happen to Futurama.

I watched this programme about the 100 best animated thing of all time about a year ago (The Simpsons won- obviously  ). Futurama came 26th, and one of the celebrities who talked about it said something like:

I never understood the rivalry between Simpsons fans and Futurama fans. I'm a fan of both shows, though not so much Simpsons anymore.

Never had much respect for Fox, though. Like Nickelodeon, they seem to have a knack for cancelling good shows that would make them alot of money. Who knows why?

But hey, 4 Futurama movies coming out, so I'm happy, and if those do well there's a chance it might be brought back. Even if it isn't, though, I can still be satisfied in some ways.

I mean, 5 seasons. That's more than alot of other deserving shows got. I'd have only one regret; that it never had good closure. But perhaps the movies will fix that - I've heard Futurama was purposely left open for the movies or it being brought back.
