Number one: Are they supposed to have been tailored after The Three Stooges? Number two: those uniforms of theirs look awfully familiar.  Didn't some other cartoon character used to wear that type, too?

Answers.

1.) Yes.

2.) I believe they're supposed to be modeled after Imperial officer uniforms from Star Wars.

Isn't there a DVD comment or something else that explains the thing I'm still wondering about: I'm convinced that they're the sons of Farnsworth, is that true?

No. Then they would have to be 70 years old.

You're right, they're pretty young, I wonder who their father is.

I'm quite sure it is mentioned in one of DXC's interviews that an episode was planned in which it turned out Farnsworth fathered one of Mom's sons..

I think all three are, but I will never know for sure. Unless they make the movie and explain it then. They look a lot like the professor and Farnsworth was Moms' true love!

I used to think they were the professor's sons.  But now my whole perception of reality has been thrown into question...

Igner to be exact. I'm almost sure the interview is on CGEF somewhere.

Mom probably had them put in suspension while building up her huge conglomerate. When you're busy aquiring your own private business mastodont, you don't want brats running around distracting you.

Then again, Mom and Farnsworth looked pretty lively and youthfull in their 90's, maybe her sons really are 70. What with cosmetic surgery and all.

Yeah, but thats kinda pushing it.  But Xmpel's right, it doesn't seem to make any sense.

Perhaps that is why they never put the Farnsworth as father bit into a show.

I thought of that one too and my absurdly weird friends actually convinced me this was true. Now my whole world is falling apart, I liked the fact that three losers are the sons of those really-ugly-when-they're-naked people (Mom & Farnsworth).

They might be test tube babies? Kept in the ice for 40 years maybe? Partial clones? They're posibilities.

Really? I would have thought it to be Larry, given that he's the oldest and seems to get preferable treatment from Mom. Also, he seems to have a bit of that ol' mad scientist about him.

The interview said it was Ignor.

From the commentary of "Mother's Day" 2ACV14:

Matt Groening: So, this was an idea that we had before the series, that-
David X Cohen: That Mom and the Professor-
MG: -had had a romance.
DXC: Yeah, and we have some other ideas that may come up down the line linking into that...
MG: Right.
DXC: We'll keep those deep in our hats, right now.
Billy West: See, this is sort of palatable, the idea of these two getting together, but then... :puke:
Rich Moore: It gets worse, folks.

He only said about Ignor in the interview after it was unlikely that the series would continue - bearing in mind that commentaries were recorded about 9 - 10 months before European release.

Are you saying David is wrong? 'cause he'll have you beat up.  ;)

Nah, I see what you mean, he's more confident and scheming (intelligent) than the others, but Igner have that uncanny similarity with Farnsworth.

Apart from the bit Sil posted it's also in ANSTATMAW's interview with the X-Man himself. I think.
