Parasites Lost and The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings both involve the holophoner... which is your favourite sequence in them?

Either the holophoner sonata in 3ACV02, or "Leela, Orphan of the Stars" in 4ACV18. Even though they are both equally my favourite episodes, I think I prefer the one in 3ACV02, it's spectacular and the animation is very nice.

I like the opera in "Leela, Orphan of the Stars" but since we're talking in terms of the holophoner, I have to go with Parasites Lost, the animation was prettier.  :)

It's such a hard choice because they're both so awesome. But I think I'll go with the one from 'Parasites Lost', there's just somthing about it that's almost magical  :)

What??  Where's the weird Frankenstein head?? Where's the grumpy snail??  Where's the dance up the stairs of classical piano keys??  Where the poorly drawn Fry and Leela kissing and walking off??? This was such a good idea for a poll, but due to 60% of the options being left out this turned into the....WORST POLL EVER!

They were both great, but Leela: Orphan of the Stars showed greater musical sophistication and greater elaboration on the basic themes from the sonata.

I'll have to go with Parasites Lost.  Not only is it the first appearance of the holophonor, I have to agree with MrB that the Frankenstein head is a high point of holophonor art.

Gotta break the tie. I really liked the one in Parasites Lost since there was singing in the opera that wasn't done by the holophoner

"Parasites Lost" hands down.  "The Devil's Hands.." one was a bit of a mess by comparison, by including lyrics and actors.

I enjoyed the opera much more than Parasites Lost. Even when Fry couldn't play, he still played better in The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings

Without a doubt, IMO, the one in Parasites Lost is the best.  Katey Sagal, though, has a great singing voice, so it was a very close one...

Bah, Orphan of the Stars was funnier.  It just proves that no matter hjow good you are, your lyrics will still be shittier.  Also check out the extended version in the Devil's Hands table read.

"Let him go!
I will not let him go
Let me go!
I will not let him go
Galileo galileo..."

Yeah, the Opera definitely.

I think that I prefer the piece he was playing on the balcony of the PE building, and the very last song we hear. They're the two songs that make me the most mad at the show's cancellation.

I already have a topic about this, but do you know what that song is called, that he was playing on the balcony?  According to the DVD commentary, it is by Beethoven, however I cannot understand what they're saying when they're saying the title.

I think it's the Pathetique Sonata: (That doesn't actually mean pathetic, but rather a melancholy sort of emotion, at least in context of the music.) However, that's just the printed music. The music we hear is by Chris Tyng, I believe.

*Definetely 'Parasities Lost'. It had such a nice emotional ring to it, plus the animation was very good.
But if you want to go for direct emotion, and nothing else, then 'TDHAIP' would be best. I'll never forget Fry and Leela walking of into the sunset.*

PL for the holophonor sequence, but I would vote for TDHAIP for the entire opera, including ad-libs. Holographic images may be amazing, but you can't beat good old-fashioned stirring lyrics.

I have to agree with hobojobo, my favourite sounding piece is the bit leela over hears while fry is writing the opera on the balcony, that sound, and the wonderfully set scene of leela fixing the ship in low light really grips my heart strings

orphan of the stars.  its more complex and on top of the holophoner you get to hear everyone sing.  who would have thought zoidberg could carry a tune?

I thought it was more moving than the PL sonata- Whether because it was the last new Futurama ep any of us will see for a LO-O-O-ONG time  :(

Damnit! Why did you have to remind me. This is why I don't watch DHIP often. Stupid show being good. Why can't I like Family Guy or reality shows...

Anyway, back on topic. I like the sequence in Parasites lost better, but the part in DHIP where the characters are all singing (which does NOT involve the holophoner by the way) is a close second.
