Yeah i also grew up with the Simpsons but i hate the newer episodes, occasionally there is a good one but rarely. I actually feel a little sorry for you. I mean The Simpsons is a brilliant show i'd hate myself if i didn't like it.

I just find them painfully unfunny....... I was in my my mid 20s when they started, I didn't grow up with them. I have nothing against Matt, certainly not now, "Futurama is in my top five and I generally hate television" I just never thoght he was funny..... Futurama proved me wrong. It just wasn't my joke before. I don't hate Matt, I just dont like the Simpsons. I'm going to regret this thread, aren't I?

I sure dont hate the simpsons and I dont see what peoples problems are with the new ones. Its the older episodes that I dont like that much I mean in the last 14 or so years I must have seen them on re-runs 100 times and they just are not that good. (Mabey that is because I can tell ya which line they are about to say!) I dont hate they just make me ill. Series 4 - Today rock.

It depends. I simply adore Simpsons episodes from before season 10 or so, in fact I would probably choose Simpsons season 5-8 OVER Futurama. But I jut can't watch the new ones, they hurt my brain and make me cry.

I love both Futurama and the Simpsons. Season 5-8 of the Simpsons are some of the best entertainment made for TV ever, even compared to reallife shows like DS9. Something happened during season 10 (or thereabout) that made me loose interest in the new episodes. The wit faded, the scathing social commentary became less subtle and more "I'm a biting social commentary, pay attention to me" obvious and it eventually evolved into the "Homer's stupid plan of the day"-show. I used to watch the show religiously, now I merely watch it if I remember it's on.
Just the other day I happened to catch "Brother From Another Series" completely by coincidence. That was a pleasant surprise since it's one of my favorite episodes (Sideshow Bob is my favorite character, btw). Afterwards I saw "Homer & The 18th Ammendment" (they run Simpsons episodes 2 at a time here), still a great episode.
So, yeah, bottom line: I'm just not as interested in Simpsons as I used to be, still love the classic seasons though.

I'd rather watch the "worst" Futurama episode than be subject to any of the new Simpsons episodes.
I simply can't take the poor writing. Who are some of these writers and why did they get hired? I can't even remember their names. They've still got the Swartzwelders and the Vittis, but the rest of the crew has gone.
Futurama has had essentially the core group of writers since the beginning. Cohen, Keeler, Verone, Kaplan, Horsted . . . they're still pretty much all around.
I think the problem lies with the fact that the Simpsons has been on the air since the 80s . . . it's hard to keep a group of people together working on a show for that long.
I do not hate the Simpsons, but I find their new episodes un-watchable. They're horrible. Just a few weeks ago, I saw one where Flanders was a closet Beatles fan, and it was so awful that I had to change the channel.
The Simpsons will always be a part of TV history as the longest running animated series ever (as well as one of the longest running shows ever), and for that I will respect it (as well as consider seasons 1-9 outstanding television), but I will not watch it any more. It's unwatchable now.

I've been aware of the Simpsons since the Tracey Ullman Show days, but never really watched their own show with any regularity. I knew who Matt Groening was from regularly reading his "Life In Hell" strip, but for some reason, Simpsons never made me into an avid fan.
Don't get me wrong. I watched when I happened onto it and still do (although probably 90% of the episodes I've seen have been due to syndication rather than original showings), and I've enjoyed most of what I've seen. I just never sought it out, set my VCR or made an effort to catch it.
I really think it's because the whole “Bart” phenomenon happened during a period of my life when I was too cool for anything the masses liked. Every minivan and pick up truck in the world sported a Bartman sticker, so automatically, the whole show was beneath me. If Simsons had never risen above cult status and only people who wore a lot of black regularly watched – things might have been different. Yes - I was a pompous ass then (I can admit that now) - but I am still not completely cured. My three favorite shows were cancelled this year for lack of audience (Futurama, Farscape and Buffy), and I’ve never seen an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond or American Idol.
Anyway - no, I never "hated" the Simpsons. I just never cared about them one way or another. If for some reason all copies of the show were destroyed and they never aired again, it would have zero effect on my life. But - the fact that in 7 days we will be mourning the premature death of one of the greatest shows ever produced - animated or otherwise - well, that just sucks.

I started watching The Simpsons from the start of the series. The Simpsons are awesome. The new episodes are pretty outlandish, and I don't really like the ones that are centered around a special guest star (i.e. the Nsync one), but all the seasons are good for a laugh. But Futurama is my all-time favorite show. and that's that!

I liked the old Simpsons but the new ones have just been bad. Futurama is my favorite show and i've basically quit watching shows on Fox, except Futurama. Fox dosn't have many good shows left anyways.

The Simpsons is and always will be pure brilliance, a work of genius, and the greatest show of the 20th Century (The same applies to Futurama in the 21st century)! Although most of the newer Simpsons episodes lack that spark that made the classics so enjoyable, I don't hate them! Heck, I like them, it's just that I can see the cracks starting to show. I really sickens me that some people suddenly hate The Simpsons just because it's still going (maybe it shouldn't be, but whatever) and Futurama has been brought to a horribly early death! It's called sour grapes! Even though I support The Simpsons 100%, I still like Futurama more. It is possible to like them both without having a pointless grudge against the other you know!

Thats funny Futurama_Hil that people didn't talk about futurama at your school/work. We did and never really got critizied or anything. Most people I talked to were tired of the Simpsons, but they liked Bender.

Simple, I stopped watching ANY network TV in 1984 when Iwas 19. I stopped when I had some serious personal problems, and when I got over it, I was happy to read, didn't need television. I used to watch the history channel when it was available to me, and I watched Babylon 5, and of course Mystery Science Theatre 3000, our hometown success story, but other than that I just dont watch TV, I got all My Futurama online as well as my Invader Zim, never saw either one on TV got hooked by way of the internet. Not everyone watches TV.

I remember watching the episode where Homer inadvertantly kills Flanders' wife Maude and it struck me that maybe the show was not mine anymore. Maybe it belonged to the teens growing up now who had constantly put gross out comedies (some good many awful) in the top 5 at the cineplex every weekend. The lack of humanity and cruelty of that episode transformed Homer from a lovable oaf to an emotionless monster. And he has more or less continued on that side bringing most of the other Simpson's characters down with him. I guess if your tastes run more towards "Scary Movie" than Scream... the new Simpsons is for you. Though the Simpsons has always been self referential, the way they flaunt it now is ludicrous.
So I was pleasantly surprised when Futurama showed up wrote its own rule book, and still managed to give humanity to its often non-human characters. All in a way the Simpsons hasn't done for years now.
The fact that 'rama is ending IS sad. And it IS a shame that The Simpsons never got to pass the torch, so to speak. Because the current 'rama product is just better written, performed and loved by its staff than the current Simpsons product. I do hope it changes for the better, but being out of the 18-24 demogrpahic it's not really my place to say anymore. Keep in mind I don't currenty live in the US so I've only seen a few episodes here or there that I've downloaded from the last three seasons.
