I'm just wondering if anyone else here thinks Futurama is truly incredible "You are here aren't you?" but that the Simpsons is an unfunny and pointless mess.

I'm NOT trying to start a flamewar, I just feel that strongly about it.

I missed this show for years based on it being from the same creator, and now I regret it. So I tried to watch the simpsons, I still don't like it.

 Am I alone in this?

I just find them painfully unfunny.......

I was in my my mid 20s when they started, I didn't grow up with them.

I have nothing against Matt, certainly not now, "Futurama is in my top five and I generally hate television" I just never thoght he was funny.....  Futurama proved me wrong. It just wasn't my joke before.

I don't hate Matt, I just dont like the Simpsons.

I'm going to regret this thread, aren't I?    :(

I love classic Simpsons and nothing can ever change that be I refuse to love or even like new Simpsons. I will always have the upmost respect for the Simpsons and Matt but I still hate the new Simpsons with every fiber of my being. Sort of like "New Coke vs. Classic Coke". The only people that are going support New Coke are those who didn't drink much classic. Yes, it's a horrible analogy but it's two in the morning and I have work tommorow. But like all true Futurama fans I do not blame Matt, the writers, or the fact that the Simpsons has been on for nearly fifteen years, I blame FOX.

Thats the official party line.
There are isolated pockets of resistance who stubbornly remain loyal the the simpsons to this day. But soon they will falter as it becomes clear to all that The head loyalists are only interested in MOneY!

I sure dont hate the simpsons and I dont see what peoples problems are with the new ones. Its the older episodes that I dont like that much I mean in the last 14 or so years I must have seen them on re-runs 100 times and they just are not that good. (Mabey that is because I can tell ya which line they are about to say!) I dont hate they just make me ill. Series 4 - Today rock.

I hate the new Simpsons episodes.  Namely, because I'm frustrated that the Simpsons, a show that now sucks, got renewed, and Futurama didn't.  Futurama was supposed to replace the Simpsons once they started going bad.  And tragically, it didn't happen.
But that aside, I like the older episodes a lot.  The older Simpsons are my second favorite show (after Futurama, of course.)

It depends.  I simply adore Simpsons episodes from before season 10 or so, in fact I would probably choose Simpsons season 5-8 OVER Futurama.  But I jut can't watch the new ones, they hurt my brain and make me cry.

I love both Futurama and the Simpsons. Season 5-8 of the Simpsons are some of the best entertainment made for TV ever, even compared to reallife shows like DS9. Something happened during season 10 (or thereabout) that made me loose interest in the new episodes. The wit faded, the scathing social commentary became less subtle and more "I'm a biting social commentary, pay attention to me" obvious and it eventually evolved into the "Homer's stupid plan of the day"-show. I used to watch the show religiously, now I merely watch it if I remember it's on.

Just the other day I happened to catch "Brother From Another Series" completely by coincidence. That was a pleasant surprise since it's one of my favorite episodes (Sideshow Bob is my favorite character, btw). Afterwards I saw "Homer & The 18th Ammendment" (they run Simpsons episodes 2 at a time here), still a great episode.

So, yeah, bottom line: I'm just not as interested in Simpsons as I used to be, still love the classic seasons though.

I'll sound like a broken record of the rest of this thread, but I love the Simpsons, just not the last 2-3 seasons worth.  The easy solution is I just don't watch it anymore.  There were a few decent episodes I saw of this seasons run, but most were garbage in my opinion.  I'll just watch the seasons I like on DVD.

Maybe becuse I never really got much exposure to it till the last few years and missed the "good" stuff.

From what you are all saying I've mostly been exposed to really lame "recent" Simpsons.

I love the simpsons but dont like the new seasons (you are lucky to find 2 funny episodes a season now, and yet somehow it is still more entertaining than the other shows in that time slot so i keep watching) I will never hate the Simpsons for the simple fact that that without the Simpsons Futurama would be non-existent unless we owned a what-if machine which we wouldnt know about without futurama (this comment is inspired by the why of fry)or had a wizard

I'd rather watch the "worst" Futurama episode than be subject to any of the new Simpsons episodes.

I simply can't take the poor writing.  Who are some of these writers and why did they get hired?  I can't even remember their names.  They've still got the Swartzwelders and the Vittis, but the rest of the crew has gone.

Futurama has had essentially the core group of writers since the beginning.  Cohen, Keeler, Verone, Kaplan, Horsted . . . they're still pretty much all around.

I think the problem lies with the fact that the Simpsons has been on the air since the 80s . . . it's hard to keep a group of people together working on a show for that long.

I do not hate the Simpsons, but I find their new episodes un-watchable.  They're horrible.  Just a few weeks ago, I saw one where Flanders was a closet Beatles fan, and it was so awful that I had to change the channel.

The Simpsons will always be a part of TV history as the longest running animated series ever (as well as one of the longest running shows ever), and for that I will respect it (as well as consider seasons 1-9 outstanding television), but I will not watch it any more.  It's unwatchable now.

I've been aware of the Simpsons since the Tracey Ullman Show days, but never really watched their own show with any regularity.  I knew who Matt Groening was from regularly reading his "Life In Hell" strip, but for some reason, Simpsons never made me into an avid fan.

Don't get me wrong.  I watched when I happened onto it and still do (although probably 90% of the episodes I've seen have been due to syndication rather than original showings), and I've enjoyed most of what I've seen.  I just never sought it out, set my VCR or made an effort to catch it.

I really think it's because the whole “Bart” phenomenon happened during a period of my life when I was too cool for anything the masses liked.  Every minivan and pick up truck in the world sported a Bartman sticker, so automatically, the whole show was beneath me.  If Simsons had never risen above cult status and only people who wore a lot of black regularly watched – things might have been different.  Yes - I was a pompous ass then (I can admit that now) - but I am still not completely cured.  My three favorite shows were cancelled this year for lack of audience (Futurama, Farscape and Buffy), and I’ve never seen an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond or American Idol.

Anyway - no, I never "hated" the Simpsons.  I just never cared about them one way or another.  If for some reason all copies of the show were destroyed and they never aired again, it would have zero effect on my life.  But - the fact that in 7 days we will be mourning the premature death of one of the greatest shows ever produced - animated or otherwise - well, that just sucks.

I started watching The Simpsons from the start of the series. The Simpsons are awesome. The new episodes are pretty outlandish, and I don't really like the ones that are centered around a special guest star (i.e. the Nsync one), but all the seasons are good for a laugh.

But Futurama is my all-time favorite show. and that's that! :D

The Simpsons made TV history but like any long-running show, there is only so much you can do.  It's not Doctor Who.  And it was never meant to be.  I remember every one all up in arms about Bart being this terrible role model, kids not being able to watch, etc.  Now, no one cares because it's not edgy or ground breaking.
There's a good reason Star Trek series only go for 7 seasons.  It's a simple concept of The-Times-They-Are-A-Changin'.  I thank Groenig and Co for the years of greatness but just like these threads getting beat to death, the Simpsons heyday sun set around 1997.

Ok, I know everyone is going to get mad at me for this but I truly HATE the simpsons. I used to love it and sit in front of the tv every sunday evening ready to catch the new epsiode like a good little fan should.
now, I hate them. i'm sorry matt but futurama has shown me how rubbish the simpsons really are.
where are the subtle jokes? where is the biting social commentary, where is the drunken robot?
Now, whenever the simpsons is on I turn it off right away. its kind of a one person boycott.
I'm sorry if you still love the simpsons, but thats just how I feel.
So, the bottom line is

ITS ALL FOX'S FAULT!!!!!!

The Simpsons is and always will be pure brilliance, a work of genius, and the greatest show of the 20th Century (The same applies to Futurama in the 21st century)! Although most of the newer Simpsons episodes lack that spark that made the classics so enjoyable, I don't hate them! Heck, I like them, it's just that I can see the cracks starting to show. I really sickens me that some people suddenly hate The Simpsons just because it's still going (maybe it shouldn't be, but whatever) and Futurama has been brought to a horribly early death! It's called sour grapes!
Even though I support The Simpsons 100%, I still like Futurama more. It is possible to like them both without having a pointless grudge against the other you know!

I hate how these kids at my school talk about the simpsons all the time.  don't they realize that they're getting worse?  well, if they saw futurama maybe they'd realize how much better it is and how the simpsons are dying.  Don't get me wrong, i still watch them, but if i had to pick futurama always gets my vote.

I am slowly, like syrup(the thick kind)hating "The Simpsons". It's becoming a little unfunny and dare I say, unbearable. Unfortunatley, Futurama is ending so this is the show I will only watch on FOX now.

Simple, I stopped watching ANY network TV in 1984 when Iwas 19.  I stopped when I had some serious personal problems, and when I got over it, I was happy to read, didn't need television.

I used to watch the history channel when it was available to me, and I watched Babylon 5,  and of course Mystery Science Theatre 3000, our hometown success story, but other than that I just dont watch TV, I got all My Futurama online as well as my Invader Zim, never saw either one on TV got hooked by way of the internet.

 Not everyone watches TV.  :)

I remember watching the episode where Homer inadvertantly kills Flanders' wife Maude and it struck me that maybe the show was not mine anymore. Maybe it belonged to the teens growing up now who had constantly put gross out comedies (some good many awful) in the top 5 at the cineplex every weekend. The lack of humanity and cruelty of that episode transformed Homer from a lovable oaf to an emotionless monster. And he has more or less continued on that side bringing most of the other Simpson's characters down with him. I guess if your tastes run more towards "Scary Movie" than Scream... the new Simpsons is for you. Though the Simpsons has always been self referential, the way they flaunt it now is ludicrous.

So I was pleasantly surprised when Futurama showed up wrote its own rule book, and still managed to give humanity to its often non-human characters. All in a way the Simpsons hasn't done for years now.

The fact that 'rama is ending IS sad. And it IS a shame that The Simpsons never got to pass the torch, so to speak. Because the current 'rama product is just better written, performed and loved by its staff than the current Simpsons product. I do hope it changes for the better, but being out of the 18-24 demogrpahic it's not really my place to say anymore. Keep in mind I don't currenty live in the US so I've only seen a few episodes here or there that I've downloaded from the last three seasons.
