Oddly enough, I think I can relate better to the characters in Futurama than in the Simpsons. I just can't make any connection with "our favorite family" anymore. I mean, how many damn episodes do we need where Homer screws things up, making Lisa mad in the act, only then to fix everything and teach a moral lesson in the end. It seems like 9 out of 10 Simpsons episodes contain exactly the same jokes. Futurama episodes, however, are consistently fresh. The show has more subtlety in its four seasons than the Simpsons has had in 14 years. The animation, voice action, and writing are much more professional, as well. If The Simpsons continues to suck (and it probably will), I honestly don't think I can ever watch it again. The new episodes have ruined the series so much, that I can barely stand to even watch the reruns. Also, if they replay that damn episode with Jack Crowley one more time, I just might snap.

Wow...never before have I seen anyplace, online or offline, where people have such a BURNING HATRED OF A THOUSAND BLUE SUNS for The Simpsons.
Why must everyone either be a fan of one or the other? It seems that some of the bigger Futurama fans HATE The Simpsons, as if Our Favorite Family was solely responsible for the destruction of Our Favorite...Future (heh). I mean, you know that's not the case; Groening intended the shows to both be long-running classics, of course...your beef's with Fox, not The Simpsons.
Anyway, I do agree about The Simpsons' decline in Seasons 9-12, though it picked up in 13 and 14, while a mixed bag, had some great episodes as well. Overall, I'd give it to the Simpsons. Their recent efforts aren't as good as current Futurama episodes, but their SEVEN great seasons have...well, more brilliant episodes than Futurama. The average quality of the shows is more or less equal, but there're just more episodes of The Simpsons. And I'm talking pre-S9 quality stuff.
They ARE still my two favorite shows, though, so don't start gang-beating me. If Futurama wasn't canned before it's time, then this would be a seriously hard question. As is, when quality of two things is about equal, you have to go to quantity. And 140+ great episodes (Simpsons) is more than 65 or so (Futurama).

Simpsons seasons 5-8 are better than Futurama. Seasons 1-4 and 9-11 are not quite as good as Futurama. Post season 11 makes me want to cry.

I think the Simpsons fans in here are overreacting. I'm probably one of the biggest Simpsons-haters here, and I'm not all that passionate, and I don't want to kill the writers or anything.
But if you ask me, seasons 1 wasn't that good(which is understandable), seasons 2 and 3 got on the right track, and 4-6 were the golden years. 7 and 8 are overrated--they're funny, but it's the first time I remember watching episodes and thinking "eh, this is kind of boring" and "they're fucking up the characters".
The Scully years started out promising with season 9, but quickly turned to shit. And despite all of Al Jean's "oh this year we're getting back to the basics, making the characters less wacky, and focusing on good, funny stories" claims, everything I've seen of season 13 and 14 have been the same Scully-esque crap.
So that's 5 great seasons--some of the best comedy ever seen on television. And then 5 seasons of crap(with so many more on the way). And then four seasons somewhere in-between. I used to be such a big fan, but if you average everything out, it's really not a great show.
