I picked the Simpsons. I do like New Futurama eps more then the new Simpsons eps. But more people like the Simpsons then like futurama so I'm just thinking about them and how it would make no sense at all for Fox to cancel the Simpsons. Also I like the simpsons from season 3 to 8 more then I would like futurama reruns. Then again maybe I'm just a shit stirrer.

@raybow55:  It may not be a good idea to post threads like this(Futurama vs another show) in a forum full of hardcore Futurama fans.

newhook_1, it doesn't matter what others think, it's what you think. and i tend to like some shows others have no idea about, but i still love those shows more than what they like.

This is the stupidest question ever.

Since this is a Futurama forum I'd assume there is some bias... but I would definitely pick Futurama. The Simpsons was once great, but the show has become old and tired, while I think Futurama could have at least a couple of good seasons left. Just like Family Guy, another funny show axed before its time.

But hey, what do we know. I am sure the TV execs have very good reasons to cancel these smart, funny, excellent shows in order to make room for Temptation Island 3 and Celebrity Boxing...

As much as I hate those shows, It's smart on fox's behalf because they are low budget and get high ratings which brings in more money for fox.

Probably but I bet one eposide of Futurama probably costs the same amount ot make as a whole season of temptation island. Don't get me wrong I do disagree with them canceling it but from fox's point of view you can see how it makes sense.

Oddly enough, I think I can relate better to the characters in Futurama than in the Simpsons.  I just can't make any connection with "our favorite family" anymore.  I mean, how many damn episodes do we need where Homer screws things up, making Lisa mad in the act, only then to fix everything and teach a moral lesson in the end.  It seems like 9 out of 10 Simpsons episodes contain exactly the same jokes.  Futurama episodes, however, are consistently fresh.  The show has more subtlety in its four seasons than the Simpsons has had in 14 years.  The animation, voice action, and writing are much more professional, as well.  If The Simpsons continues to suck (and it probably will), I honestly don't think I can ever watch it again.  The new episodes have ruined the series so much, that I can barely stand to even watch the reruns.  Also, if they replay that damn episode with Jack Crowley one more time, I just might snap.

Same here. The Futurama cast seem more like a family and while developing throughout the series they remain consistent to their selves, as opposed to the Simpsons which is getting more outlandish, introducing stuff that makes no sense, the characters don't always act like themselves, etc.

Wow...never before have I seen anyplace, online or offline, where people have such a BURNING HATRED OF A THOUSAND BLUE SUNS for The Simpsons.

Why must everyone either be a fan of one or the other?  It seems that some of the bigger Futurama fans HATE The Simpsons, as if Our Favorite Family was solely responsible for the destruction of Our Favorite...Future (heh).  I mean, you know that's not the case; Groening intended the shows to both be long-running classics, of course...your beef's with Fox, not The Simpsons.

Anyway, I do agree about The Simpsons' decline in Seasons 9-12, though it picked up in 13 and 14, while a mixed bag, had some great episodes as well.  Overall, I'd give it to the Simpsons.  Their recent efforts aren't as good as current Futurama episodes, but their SEVEN great seasons have...well, more brilliant episodes than Futurama.  The average quality of the shows is more or less equal, but there're just more episodes of The Simpsons.  And I'm talking pre-S9 quality stuff.

They ARE still my two favorite shows, though, so don't start gang-beating me.  If Futurama wasn't canned before it's time, then this would be a seriously hard question.  As is, when quality of two things is about equal, you have to go to quantity.  And 140+ great episodes (Simpsons) is more than 65 or so (Futurama).

I don't hate the The Simpsons, in fact it used to be my favorite show, especially seasons 3-8. Lately though I just don't find it funny anymore. With that being said, both shows are good, but I think Futurama is at present slightly better. It's funnier, and it somehow has more 'heart'. Episodes like "Luck of the Fryrish" made me feel ways about stuff like The Simpsons never did.

Anyway, the question was which show should be kept on Fox. Since I've seen all the older Simpsons episodes a million times and don't like the new ones, while I really enjoy Futurama, my choice remains the same.  :)

I agree with much of what Triforce said.  Guys, The Simpsons didn't kill Futurama.  I doubt Mr. Groening feels as strongly as some of you do, even if he secretly doesn't like it as much now or whatever.

ANYHOO, like Triforce it would be a tougher decision if Futurama wasn't killed before its time.  So that said, I DO pick Futurama at the moment.  Its definetely a little more consistant then current Simpsons, and didn't have as much of a chance at greatness given it has only 72 episodes made (while The Simpsons has 313...and that's just the aired ones).  Still, if it weren't for seasons 9-12 I don't think I'd have made as many complaints about the quality of The Simpsons as I have.  It still has some great episodes, and I like seasons 1-8 better then Futurama anyway (plus, unlike some people here I generally found that the emotion and "human" feel to the characters was much better and more consistant in classic episodes of The Simpsons then it is in Futurama).

It has nothing to do with Simpsons-bashing (and I really don't see much hate expressed in this thread about that show (personally I think season 5-8 is some of the best tv ever made, right up there with DS9)), but it have everything to do with this being a Futurama message board. No matter what show you put up there as option #2, it would be lanslide victory for Futurama. Particularly in these weeks, what with the show ending and all.

If you go to NHC and ask the same question, the outcome would be just as clear, only reversed.

That last comment is true.  I guess I was mostly reacting to the Simpsons bashing of some previous threads, and in this board in general, then this thread specifically.

Simpsons seasons 5-8 are better than Futurama.  Seasons 1-4 and 9-11 are not quite as good as Futurama.  Post season 11 makes me want to cry.

I'd keep Futurama on.  It's an easy decision because the Simpsons has devolved to a very low level.  Now if this involved classic Simpsons, the choice would be very difficult for me to make.

Futurama definitely. The Simpsons is still a great show, but it could never match up to the standards of Futurama. Those morons on the No Homers Club constantly insulted me just because I said I didn't like The Simpsons as much. WELL, WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?! No one, that's who.

What I like better is of little consequence.  The FOX Execubot rolled the dice, and it came up Simpsons.

Now if you want to have a real poll, ask something relevant like "What would you like to see more, a fifth production season of Futurama or pictures of Britney Spears (or fill in appropriate male counterpart's name) naked?"

*That* is one I would have to think about for a while.

I think the Simpsons fans in here are overreacting. I'm probably one of the biggest Simpsons-haters here, and I'm not all that passionate, and I don't want to kill the writers or anything.

But if you ask me, seasons 1 wasn't that good(which is understandable), seasons 2 and 3 got on the right track, and 4-6 were the golden years. 7 and 8 are overrated--they're funny, but it's the first time I remember watching episodes and thinking "eh, this is kind of boring" and "they're fucking up the characters".

The Scully years started out promising with season 9, but quickly turned to shit. And despite all of Al Jean's "oh this year we're getting back to the basics, making the characters less wacky, and focusing on good, funny stories" claims, everything I've seen of season 13 and 14 have been the same Scully-esque crap.

So that's 5 great seasons--some of the best comedy ever seen on television. And then 5 seasons of crap(with so many more on the way). And then four seasons somewhere in-between. I used to be such a big fan, but if you average everything out, it's really not a great show.
