The usual:

  • no posting before the episode started on the east coast
  • go away if you don't want to be spoiled
  • reviews/general discussion here, weird things etc in separate threads

Hey, a solid improvement over last week's episode!  Unfortunately, I missed most of the first act (saw from when Bender was getting his sex change onwards)...even so, the rest of the episode was quite good, particularly the ending.  Zoidberg was hilarious (the crew throwing garbage at him for no reason, the cake part, the doctor bit)!  I loved when Leela slapped the professor and then agreed with him, that was comedic genious.

Bender as a woman was a little scary, but it had plenty of funny results.  Nice ending, good jokes, and a smidgeon of emotion packed into a solid episode.  I was entertained tonight! 4/5

I honestly thought this was one of the weaker episodes. The beginning part with Hermes was good, and it kinda went downhill from there. Bender as a girl was sort of creepy and not very funny; the way he acted often made me squirm. The best part was the wedding (Zoidberg hilarious as always), and the end was nice. A few good jokes, but nothing special. I'd give it a C.

Initial reactions:

500-meter Limbo: Hilarious
John Dimaggio's work: Yet another example of why he's one of my favorite voice actors ever
Zoidberg: Hilarious as usual - BUY THE CAKE DAMMIT!  I'madoctorshesdead.

I'm surprised to hear people liking the ending/wedding. I thought the episode started out hilariously, but towards the end it got too wacky for me.

But seeing as how I hate women and all, and this episode had a lot of jokes about women, I say it all averages out to be good enough.

The end.

Memorable scene: The "self explanatory" Calculon sequence...

*Calculon kneels on the grass in a backyard while a pirate is cooking burgers behind him, and screams NOOOOOOOO!*

Calculon: I was supposed to say "yes", but I thought I'd give it a twist!

I usually don't like Bender episodes but this one was good. Zoidberg's antics were great - from him being the wedding planner, to the PE crew tossing trash at him, and the soap opera wedding at the end. Not the best episode ever, but I still enjoyed it.  :)

Oh Crap!  I can't believe I missed a "new" Futurama *again*!  Knowing my luck, and CN, and Fox, and TBS, I'll never get to see it until it comes out on DVD.

This is the sort of thing that kept me from seeing Futurama years ago: I don't normally watch TV at 7 PM.  I know I *could* change me habits, but you know how it is...  Well, that's my lame excuse.

Maybe if I had a TiVo, I would not miss any... maybe if I had some money, I could get a TiVo... maybe if I had a job, I could get some money to get a... oh, it's a vicious circle.

Bender as a fembot?  Oh well, I'll catch it later.  When's the next episode?

I know how you feel, I missed the first half of "Spanish Fry" last week, which was apparently much better. Guess I'll wait for the DVD as well.  :(

This was one of the better Bender eps I've seen. Got quite a few chuckles out of me. Could have used a sideplot. Not the best ep of the series, but it was still pretty funny.

It was a good episode!  Like Fishy Joe said, it was really good at first in the olympics, but then it started getting a little wierd.  It was still a all around good episode though.

I was so uneasy when I heard about this, and after I read the preview. I was luckily and pleasantly surprised.

"Bend Her" is a remarkable improvement from the last few weak episodes. Everything was firing on all cyllanders, even if Bender himself was missing a few cyllanders himself. The 3004 Olympics was better than what I expected ("The Nation of Joe," indeed!). I liked the tip of the hat to Hermes' previous limbo career. Even though Bender as Coilette was plenty disturbing, Bender's constant jabs at being a woman/other women in general were so mean they were funny. ("Every guy wants a tramp!" )

Bender seemed a little bit out of character, considering it all. However, the writers managed to swerve it back by showing how he was just in it for the money and fame. Coilette was frightening, and now I'm wondering if Bender is a "robo-sexual" (he did have feelings for Calculon, remember.) But, he does still have some of the PE ship's computer in him from "Love and Rocket." That probably didn't help his transfer.

Never before has a robot transsexual brought joy to so many people.

I really enjoyed this episode.  I loved the part where Bender asked the professor to "make me a woman" and the professor says that they should just be "good friends".  Funny!

I liked it all.  Much better than last weeks.  Although Zoidberg did have the funniest part.
But when Fry threw the spear and missed Bender, it had me rolling.

Great episode!  I loved every bit of it, and laughed really really hard at quite a few points, it made me wish I could pause it.  Every Zoidberg bit was gold, the opening gag was great, and everyone else had a few great lines to contribute.  Also, I thought seeing Bender as a Fembot would disturb me, but I actually found it quite hilarious.

I had my doubts this episode was gonna be good. After seeing it, I really think this is one of the funniest that didn't involve over-used humor (man horn, Spanish Fry).

And I thought Bender shoulda stayed a fembot. Hell, I think he was better off. Plus, I think Leela was a little jealous of his (her) new look.

This was a hilarious episode, and it's a damn shame I can't use it as a dbouble-page in my guide book (previous layouts forbid). The whole bit with Hermes trying to limbo was classic. And Bender's transformation had me lauging (Amy fainting as his oil is drained, etc.). And Calculon was at his best in this episode ("Funny story, the script called for me to say 'yes' but, I gave it a little twist", chucking his half-brother off the balloon, "Nooo! Nooo! N! O! O! O!" ), as was Zoidberg (catching the trash, "Order the cake!  DAMNIT!", "I came as soon as I could", "I'm a doctor, she's dead" ). Another great episode. 5/5.

I missed tonight's episode, but there seem to be mixed reactions about this episode, so I can't be sure how good this one was. I think I can wait a few weeks before "acquiring" it.

That was way funnier than I thought it would be.  The soap opera ending was great.  The yacht scene made me spit my drink.  Kinda creepy, yes.  But one of the best Bendercentric eps.  I agree that John DiMaggio is one of the best voice talents out there.  That scene with Calculon on his knees yelling Noooooo...and the pirate cooking burgers in the background?

Comedy gold.

...but seeing Bender as Coilette was plenty traumatizing.  Now I'm scarred for life.  In a good way.  I think.

On my first viewing, I didn't think this episode was that great.  There weren't that many laugh out loud moments for me here except for Zoidberg's lines.  I didn't much care for Bender as Coilette and better stuff has been done with Calculon.  I'll view it again soon to see if my first impression changes, but for now I give it 6/10.

The show did have some good stuff.  It did seem a little--how do you say--easy.  The 'put a man in a dress' joke is classic shark jumping material.  I don't think they did it but...

Color me pleasantly suprised.  Bender eps usually aren't the best (and this sounded like a weaker one), but this was an exception.  Hilarious throughout.  Bender's new gender was disturbing, but in the funniest way possible and always hilarious.  Lots of other great moments too, like Humorbot 5.0, "Oh take me in your arms and compress me!  Compress me tight!", and ANYTHING Zoidberg, for instances.  Not an absolute highlight, but in the upper half of  this "season"  B+

From the synopsis I thought this episode would be terrable. But it was better then more then a fiew episodes (30% iron chief, Bird Bot of Icecatraz to name a fiew) And the best way to summ up the feel for the whole episode is this:

Boquet of Puppies.

I actually liked this episode better than "Godfellas". I don't know why. Don't get me wrong, "Godfellas" was a good episode, although the ending was kinda weak. But "Bend Her" is by far my favorite Bender episodes. I'm glad it focused on one plot. What made most of the episode funny is that the cast seemed to have nothing to do except random things like, throwing food into Zoidberg and rant about Bender. Half of the time, they were sitting down. It's nice to know that they have sometime to relax. I feel bad for Fry though, he had to help pick out a outfit for Bender, I just love the look Fry give to the crew. The ending was pretty good too. A great payoff to a great episode. Almost like "Three Hundred Big Boys" except that was a great payoff to a good episode.

Am I the only one whose favorite episodes are the Bender-centric ones?  I've seen "Bender Gets Made" probably 30 times.  So I'm going to give this episode a very biased 4.0.  John DiMaggio's performance was nothing short of excellent tonight.

I was thinking about Bender being upset that he couldn't compare to the male bending units at the Olympics. I then recalled the episode where Bender had to bend one unbendable beam. Considering this, with a little bit of training (like that would ever happen) Bender could easily pass those guys!

I didn't like this episode as much as others, but it wasn't bad. I guess I'm in the minority, but I thought that the first act was moving too fast, and loved the finally (and leela looked hilarious in her costume)

And yes, I thought Zoidberg was very funny.

A good episode, not great.  For me, it was the the weakest of the 4ACV series except for 4ACV01 (Kif Gets Knocked Up A Knotch).  Still, the bar is pretty high for Futurama and it was very entertaining.
