I saw the Godfellas episode for the first time today and couldn't help noticing similarities between it and the Red Dwarf episode Rimmerworld. Firstly, the way Bender was launched from the ship at a rate too fast for them to catch up was identical to Rimmer escaping on the escape pod from the collapsing ship and Starbug being unable to catch up to him. Then, how Bender becomes God and creates a civilisation, only to mess it up in the end is exactly like how Rimmer creates a race of Rimmer-like people on a deserted planet, only to have them turn against him and lock him in a dungeon for 500 years. In fact, the only thing not at all similar was how it ended.

I know Futurama/Red Dwarf similarities have been pointed out before, but not in this episode as I recall. I thought it was quite interesting, since quite a few people seem to think they got some of their ideas from Red Dwarf.

I think it's best to combine them all into this thread

I saw that but the thread title seemed unrelated. Anyway the moderators here scare me, I'll let them sort it out!

In all fairness though, the core idea at the heart of both these episodes lie in a science fiction short story written in the 40s or 50s.  I know someone more on the ball at the moment than I will pick out the author and title.  The premise: a scientist creates life at the microscopic level, and watches it evolve at great speed to the point it overtakes his own civilization.

Somewhat similar, but quite the reach.
