Its not characters related..
Do they all give us more insight into the future?  Knowing more about the central bueracracy system.  Knowing more about Santa Bot.  Alien reproduction.  Robot Sanity.  Alternate universes...
..or maybe they could all work as possible what ifs?  What if Bender became the new Santa?  What if Hermes had a nervous breakdown?  Well, come to think of it,  I guess most episodes, if not all, could be what ifs...

No, the episodes are listed in the order they were produced. No particular reason for that though.

then you got it wrong. Insane In The MainFrame should be #3, Tale Of Two Santas should be in the #2 slot.

Yeah, slight error there, but as I said the order have no influence on what connects them whatsoever.
