Just wanted to get peoples thoughts on production season 3 of Futurama.  IMO the episodes at the start from Amazon Women in the Mood to The Day the Earth Stood Stupid (my favourite) is probably the best sequence of episodes in Futurama to date.  Great stories, great jokes and just a good general flow to them.  However, I think the episodes from I Dated a Robot to the last in the series The 30% Iron Chef is the worst sequence.  I was particularly disappointed with Roswell that ends well, which I thought was only mediocre despite the high ratings it received on CGEF.  Anyone care to comment on this?

I agree wholeheartedly on "A Pharaoh To Remember", that episode was one of the worst.

"Future Stock" and "I Dated A Robot" was a bit disappointing as well, but the rest of the episodes was great.

"The 30% Iron Chef and AOI II was both good solid shows, lots of jokes there.

"A Leela Of Her Own" (CGEF rating: 57%, you people sickens me), is in my opinion one of the, if not The, most underrated episodes in the entire run. Except for Jackie Anderson the show was a laffer (and that's with two f's).

"Roswell That Ends Well" and "Godfellas" both have secure spots on my personal top-10. Roswell is probably among my 5 personal favorites. Brilliant show with all you culd wish for in plot, jokes, oneliners and visuals. "Godfellas" is one of the most visual stunning episodes in the show, and a great story about being god. Ken Keeler deserved all the praise coming to him for that episode.

So that's 1 clunker, 2 so-so, 2 solid and 3 outstanding episodes. I'd say the end of the 3ACV block was as steady as the rest of the season.

I think it almost ended better then it started.  C'mon, how could you not like Roswell that Ends Well, Godfellas, and AOI II?

DON'T KILL ME, but I think 3ACV is maybe when the show REALLY started to hit its stride.  Seasons one and two were very good, but I think they were more often then not mostly just about (admittingly great) gags, where seasons 3-Mcseason 5 are more creative, take their sci-fi origins more seriously (while still providing enough parody), have better characters and stories (Fry becomes a fully developed character you feel for rather then a "look how dumb he is" gag character of seasons one and two, for instance), and save for maybe Mcseason 5 are just better then 1ACV and 2ACV.

I liked "Roswell That Ends Well". It was a brilliant episode with oh so clever writing. I really liked "A Leela Of Her Own". It was a great take-off of "A Legue Of Their Own". The Black Bar Generator joke almost had me on the floor. Oh, and Anthology Of Interest II was a wonderful improvement over number 1. Bender's segment was halarious!

That was Ken Keeler's episode though. Still love it myself. Together with Roswell, to me the "starts good, ends bad" just isn't true.

"A Pharaoh To Remember" was crap.

"The 30% Iron Chef" was good i liked that episode, especially Zoidberg.
      'Gifts!'

"Roswell That Ends Well" is great one of my favs.

"Godfelles" isn't very good though.

Season 3 in general rocks all around.

I'm more familiar with the airing seasons than the production seasons, so i'll just comment on th episodes that others have mentioned. I reckon season 3 was a good season overall, and Roswell That Ends Well is probably in my top 3 episodes. Personally I found Godfellas rather boring, but I enjoyed 30% Iron Chef. I also thought that A Pharaoh To Remember was better than everyone else seems to think.

Heheheh. Teral always puts in a good word for that episode wherever he goes.  ;). I think it basically depends on how much comedy value you think Leela has.

Personally, there is no episode of Futurama that I would rate below an 80. Even "Cryonic" and "Pharoah" are enjoyable to some extent. It's why I find it so difficult to pick out a "worst" episode. Every one has something going for them. (Plus, if I make a statement, I'll have to stand by it later  ;).)

So the "start's good, end's bad" doesn't hold for me either. It's true my favorite disc of the S3 set is the first one (3ACV01 - 3ACV06) is my favourite, but that's primarily because my favourite episode ("Fryrish" ) is on there.

I liked "A pharaog to remember" it wast one of the best of season 3, so was "That`s Lobsterteinment!". Episodes that wasn`t that good in season 3 are: 30% Iron Chef, Futurestock, and The Day the earth stood stupid.

Top 3 of season 3:

1. Roswell That Ends Well 10/10
2. That`s Lobsterteinment! 9.5/10
3. Godfellas 9/10

 Worst episodes of season 3.

22. Futurestock 8/10
21. 30% Iron Chef 8/10
20. The Day the earth stood stupid 8/10

As you can see i rated the 3 worst episodes allso high. That`s beacuse i actually like every episode.

Roswell that ends well and Godfellas are the two best episodes ever! Every episode looks good compared to anything that The Simpsons have produced in the last 4 years. There are no terrible episodes, everyone has a great line to it. I can't wait till season 4 now! (if that ever makes it to DVD)

Yeah, I realised that a few hours ago when I watched the "Godfellas" episode on DVD. I hoped noone would note that little mistake until I had the chance to correct it.

On the subject of 30% Iron Chef, why are Futurama's season finale episodes always pretty mediocre ones?  So far we've had "Fry and the Slurm Factory", the abysmal "Cryonic Woman" and "30% Iron Chef", none of which I've thought were particularly good.

OK - Last night I saw I Dated a Robot on Cartoon Network for the first time in a while, and damn it - it was funny.  Lucy Luibot's "Oh you are so sexy PHILLIP J. FRY", Billy Anyteen and the Marilyn Monroebot film, the nerd who downloaded Madelyn Allbright, Zoidberg's "snap, snap, snap"...

Let's look at that list again:

I Dated A Robot - Very funny.
A Leela of Her Own - Most under rated episode.
A Pharaoh To Remember - 6 out of 10.
Anthology of Interest II - Hilarious.
Roswell that Ends Well - A true classic.
Godfellas - Make that two true classics.
Futurestock - Not me fave, but many solid laughs.
30% Iron Chef - Zoideberg shines in this one.

Then only one even close to mediocre (in Futurama terms) is Pharaoh, but that is because it only made me laugh out loud 4 or 5 times.

Nope - series 3 was incredibly strong and I have to admit I'm a little jealous of the UK fans getting the DVD now, but since within two weeks I will have seen every episode again, I can wait a while.

I just got the Season 3 DVD and saw 'A Pharaoh to Remember' for the first time, and I think it's great! Much better than 'Bendless Love' or 'A Tale of 2 Santas'.  I'd say it was in the top 10 episodes of Season 3. (Top 5 - Parasites Lost, Roswell, Godfellas, Amazon Women and Luck of the Fryrish)     :D

Come to think of it, Future stock is one of my fav episodes what with the safety dance and lines like :
"Fry, being a friend means i get to beat you with a pool cue til your retinas pop out"

or

"awesome, awesome to the max!"
Its gotta be one of the best, the 80's were cool!!! I reckon the ones who don't like the episode are post 1990.... :)

As a guy who experienced the entire decade I can confidently say the 80's sucked. Particular the hair styles.

Although the tv shows (and movies) were great.

Although a big part of the episode is slapstick, there's still a lot of great jokes. Particular Farnsworths few lines in the intro are hillarious. Bender is pretty good too, but ofcourse if you don't like Leela, or the movie "A Leela Of Their Own" the episode does have limited value. I happen to like both things.  ;)

Ok then, time for my "rant". I love PEEL because it's not full of double posts and people that can't speak proper speak English. More people are from Europe/UK then the USA, but i agree on the hatred of "American English". However you can't comment considering you type:

May be edited but normally we leave rants and stuff in. We just speak normal English, punctuate properly and have normal conversations (ok, scrap the last bit).

Now on-topic:
Season 3 (3ACV) was a great season, i love DVDs 1 and 4 as they have some of the best episodes, Amazon Women In The Mood, Parasites Lost, Luck of the Fryrish, AOI II, Roswell That Ends Well and Godfellas are some of my favourite episodes ever.

I'd never seen the last four episodes until I got the DVD so that was a nice treat for me. Futurestock wasn't amazingly brilliant but the plot remained consistent throughout the episode and there were some good effects in it like the Momcorp ship and the stock exchange (love that view of the Earth through the window). I didn't like 30% Iron Chef that much because I don't like it when minor characters (like Elzar and Calculon in That's Lobstertainment!) get a whole episode. Godfellas was fantastic. IMO the worst episode of the 3ACV season was Insane In The Mainframe.

I think it was about evened out.  I haven't seen every ep of season 3, but i hated AWITM, and I didn't like Futurestock.  Still, I think this season was the best season COMEDY WISE. Seasons 4 and 5 are good in comedy but better in plot wise.  Season 1 and 2 are okay, but not as funny or plot-driven.

I think Season 3 had a great end, it was solid all the way through. Maybe a few slightly weaker eps scattered throughout, but they were mostly around the middle. The awesome beginning and end bookended it though, IMO  :)

Nix: you fool! The 80's rocked. Seriously, name a better decade. The 80's were ambitious and misunderstood, like germany.

And I was born in 1981, ok? I have a lot more 80's experience than you. I think I'd know if they sucked or not.

everyone else: I thought season 3 ended well. The beginning was way better(first five episodes are the best five-episode run of the entire show), but all the crappy episodes seemed to come right in the middle. So it started great, continued inconsistently, and ended good. Hot.
