I was reading people's posts in this thread worrying that the show and the characters may not be recognizable enough. Well, what if they made some short T.V. spots featuring the main characters of the show, sort of like the ad campaign for Star Wars II, to get people familiar with the characters?

i think a creative way of tying up some suttle plots in the series and somehow tying them into making a movie would be a great theme. i cant think of any right now cus its too early for me but you get the idea.

I think that space pilot 3000 had a good enough plot for a movie, I loved the plot of the episode.

Bump

Much agreed JP. And Space Pilot 3000 did have a good plot, but would you really want them dragging on one less than 30 minutes episode into 90 minutes? I would like an original idea from the original creative staff than have a fanfic become a movie or one of the episodes become a movie. Now, if they strung SP3000, TLotF, TDtESS, RWTEW, JB, and TWoF into one movie, it would have one story that went through the whole series in one movie. And they could improve graphics, color, and the story in the movie to accomidate to it. But I'd rather see a new idea rather than an old one, though I'd still go out and see a Futurama movie anyway.

hmmm...futurama movie eh? ...this gives me an IDEA! .... no wait that was just gas...It'd be cool if people from this site (who have all these great ideas) banded together to ... dare I say it... MAKE A FAN MOVIE!!! I've read some of the fanfics... some of them are ok(and some of them are god awfull)... that's where the writing staff would come from. and theirs fantastic artists here for sure! Those would be the animators. And I bet we could get people who know how to do the voices pretty good. If we really wanted to WE could make a MOVIE!!! ...or not...

Welcome to PEEL ecks. Enjoy your stay at nerd-world.

The problem with your idea is with the rights to property. Futurama isn't our property. If we were to mass market it, we'd be in trouble, but, if we made it as a more "fan movie" and ran it through the internet, there'd be less chance of getting caught for using somebody else's property. I'm not getting your hopes down. (If something's hopeless, you just gotta hope even more, and put your hands over your ears and go "La la la la la!" -- Philip J. Fry)

And I bet everybody would eventually do what I do when I get a good idea ... full steam ahead for about 5 minutes, then get bored and stick the DVDs on. Leave it to the experts, I say. Make a brew instead.

Half of me wants another series, half of me wants Futurama to remain timeless. Then again, I'm getting fed up re-cycling my box sets, so I DEMAND A SERIES V!!!

This just became the perfect time for a Futurama movie.  Given Matt Groening's feelings toward Nixon, and the fact that Nixon is the president in Futurama, any movie should now include Deep Throat, be it as a throw-away gag, or even as the primary plot device.

Just too damned perfect!  Has to be done.

A movie would be a good idea, I reakon! Futurama is actually more known then we think (I'm always surprised by how many people have heard/watched/loved it) so I don't think it'd be unpopular. As for a Simpsons movie, it would be big, but Futurama could do a lot more, you know what I mean?? And you put out a Futurama movie you'll  get more fans who go buy the dvds ect. and you just never know, we might get a whole new season, or even another movie! Sure, there are so many things to be workied out, but Fox can't lose much giving a Futurama movie a go. As long as it isn't live action and stays true to the original series, it'll be pretty popular.  Hell, even if they released it on dvd first, than made a second one...I just want my movie!!!

Does anyone find it unbelievable that a Futurama plot could entertain not just one but three movies? What besides a galactic civil war can hold my interest for three movies?

Not really into this, are you?  As for me, Bender systematically burgling his way through the phone book would hold my interest for six movies.

One thing i cant understood is still there is a LOT of CRAPPY MOVIES based on shame TV cartoons, we have a lot bunch of Winnie the Poo movies, pointless disney second-division movies (VHS only) and unknown crappy series turn into movies.. and Futurama doesnt made it and it appears it will not do it never

I don't know if someone has come up with this idea before.  But, here it is.  The brainspawn, stuck in the alternate universe in the Infosphere, use the Infosphere's knowledge to build another Quantumn Interphase Bomb that would return them to the normal universe.  They then try to destory the universe as you would expect.  Also, they could be in league with the Robot Devil for some reason.  DOOP is called in to try and destroy the infosphere (along with all available ships) as Fry, Leela and Bender foil the brains plan some other way.  Because the main crew are off somewhere else, they cannot be flying the Planet Express ship in the fight against the Infosphere, so Zoidberg has to pilot the ship (They'd have to have some reason why Hermes couldn't fly it as we saw him do in The Farnsworth Parabox).  The battle against the Infosphere is ripe for a Star Wars paroday what with the Death Star and all.

Well, like I said, someone's probably had this idea before.  Still, I reckon it's pretty cool.  Maybe.

I don't know that the Robot Devil actually kidnapped Nixon's head.  I just assumed, as the RD said, that it was poker night in Robot Hell, and Nixon was *ahem* invited to join.

Trace readings of my thoughts on the movies:

The final one ought to get Fry and Leela together for good (or for now....)

The Nibblonians and the Brain Spawn, with Fry and "The Other", might well form another script.

As for the rest -- well, hey, when Matt and David want to hire me as a writer, I'll tell them the rest.  (But here's a hint:  ZOIDberg!)

Just wanna say I think it's important that they take the opportunity to explore the major story arcs the series left incomplete, but while the movies should seem to tie things together, I hope they'll still leave some things going in case the series does get picked up again at a later date.

And if the movies are intended to be broken down and aired as episodes (which seems likely), then I can only wish they wouldn't bother making them into movies at all. I'd be equally thrilled with 4 dvds containing 3-4 new episodes apeice. Why do no american networks ever produce direct-to-video series? Anime series do it all the time, and for the same reasoning as Fox is doing this - to wrap up loose-ends for the fans and make some more $$$, and as a side-effect it sometimes builds up enough new interest in the series to justify new TV episodes.

I would detest the idea of a live action movie, nevertheless the notion is a good remedy for boredom...

Jennifer Garner as Leela - don't look at it too closely, I'm a hopeless amateur at Photoshop.

Movie title: Futurama presents "Attack of the Chicken-Men"

Professor Farnsworth decides to genetically modify chickens so they are larger and meatier, in an attempt to sell these tasty superchickens to fast food restaurants and grocery stores.  However, he miscalculates the amount of hormones given and the chickens become six feet tall and are as smart as people.  Even worse, these chickens know what the humans have been doing to them for all these thousands of years, so they start forming anti-human militia and its up to Zapp Brannigan and the PE crew to stop these homicidal gun-toting chickens before the humans are served on a platter

I also think it would be cool if they did a movie where the PE crew got stuck in a movie related alternated dimension and the only way to make it back to normal life (haha, futurama normal life) would be to travel through the diferent movie worlds.  One part could be silent, they could also be in a mobster movie, a western, a horror movie, kung-fu, and so on, plus there could be numerous cameos, plus they could intera ct with long dead celebrities (especially since Maurice LaMarche does a flawless Orson Welles)

I would like to see Jennifer Garner as Leela.  I like tyraniak's idea for a stuck in a multi-genre kind of Futurama movie.

Here's another idea I had in mind.  How about a western theme?   They all go to a planet that's like the old west.  Called Old West 177.  The aliens from the old west planet find out the Planet Express is built on an oil well and they want the Professor to give them the oil.  He refuses, so the aliens kidnap Hermes, Amy, and Zoidberg and take them back to their planet. So Fry, Bender, and Leela have to set out to the rescue.  Once they're on the planet the aliens send out a bumbling Wile Coyote-like alien to get Fry, Bender, and Leela.

It seems most of the ideas you guys are making involve the revenge or attack of some species on earth, but I hope it is much more than that.

I dont want it to be less sci-fi, but invasions have been hell explored before...

A plot that explored the secrets would be much more entertaining than battles methinks
