the unofficial guide to futurama

this may sound like a stupid and quite unrealistic idea, but please bare with me.
i am completely serious about this.

i had, what i think, is a great idea.  the whole futurama web community should create a book:  "the unofficial guide to futurama: a guide made by the fans, for fans"  or something like that.

it would be similar to the simpsons family guide (or whatever it was called) except with a whole lot more content.  each episode in that book took up about a page.  i was thinking this book could have about 4 pages per episode. it could be for the first 3 seasons, and if it's a success, we could do another one later.

like in the simpsons guide, there would be pages for each episode.  i was thinking instead of the 1 page like in the simpsons guide, there would be about 4 for each ep.  at the begining of the page, there would be little things like writer, title gag, title cartoon, episode code, and other little episode facts.  it could include detailed profiles about the characters of the epiosde;  funny quotes and dialogue; funny signs and other eye candy which futurama is so full of;  some small and nice pics fromt the episode;  loads of little notes and facts about the episode and the story, possibly some nitpicking, if it's not too anoying; little articles about the episode or the episode's contribution to the series as a whole, such as the progression of a relationship between 2 characters like fry and leela.   these are just some ideas.

the book could have pages with things like what are included in the "lists and references" pages of websites like cgef or the futurama chronicles, or info about the alien languages. just stuff about the whole series and it's development, instead of just stuff about individual episodes.

this would be a major project.  there would be head coordinators which can do the publishing stuff and the leagal stuff;  layout people; and many many contributers for the content of the book.

this is my fantasy.  i think it would be cool if everybody on this message board and in this community could contribute to create a book like this.  there could be a page or two of credits and special thanks with all of our names in it.  i think it would be a major project that could have wonderful results.  i'm imagining colorful pages that are just as appealing to read and look at as the show itself.  most of the book's content could be found here on the net, but it would be compiled in a detailed and informative book, that would include all sorts of details and information, except only the imptortant stuff, and nothing boring.

this may only be nothing more than a fantasy, and i'm just brainstorming here, but i think this could be great!


i need everybody's thoughts on this.  anything.

i was thinking that much of it could be done over the interntet such as the content.
example: there could be a "futurama guide" message boards.  it would be it's own message boards for the creation of the book.  in the board there would be forums like "character profiles."   in the character profile forum, there would be topics like "fry," "hermes," bender," etc.  in these topics, anybody could contribute there ideas about what should be in the character profile for that character.  there would be a moderator to keep it strictly on this topic.  any other off topic discussion would be immediatle deleted.  that moderator would be one of many main organizers. 

THE ONE FLAW in this whole idea about this book, is that it would be impossible create this book without poeple meeting.  if we were all serious about this, we could have "main organizers."  some of these people would be the moderators of the board and bring the ideas back to their circle of discussion.  i have no idea how many of these main organizers there would be, but somehow they would have to all meet in person to discuss the book.  it wouldn't be easy trying to create the layout of the content on the pages in the book, without a confrence.

wow great idea, i'd been thinking myself if they were going to make a book like that along the lines of the simpsons one, i'm sure we could all make it, it's just i can't really see a book made like that getting published or whateva you were thinking, but hey we can always try! I can do some artwork for each episode, kinda like those big ones in the double pages of the simpsons book. If only i had a scanerrrr ........

Jeeze.  i thought the only replies i would get was a bunch of critizism of how implausible the idea sounds, and how impossible it would be to carry out. 

i was thinking if anybody had a webcam, that could help.  if we are actually serious about doing this, we need to somehow kick it off.  i could be a moderator for some forums, if we can convince CGEF to create a new message board and advertise for it on their main page.

come on damnit! somebody like jason or reed needs to email me!! actually, we should get somemore feedback first.

if we can convince a webmaster to create a new message board, or a section on the main page which links to a message board that somebody else creates, that would be a great start.  the message boards would be dead until we have moderators.  kinda like the info booth, only moderators would be able to create topics, except in this, anybody would be able to reply.

Hell! if it doesn't work, or it's not possible to completely get together, or it can't be published, then it could just be a damn skippy little handy dandy compiled guide to futurama.

it sounds like a great idea. I could help with the layout design as that's what I do for a living (graphic designer).
And I'd certainly be willing to help with anything else.

But before we do anything I think someone should talk to someone else who knows about publishing books.
Do we need a deal before we start? Do we have to pay a commision fee to FOX? etc

Nevertheless count me in for anything I can do and we can still continue discussing ideas here so come on everyone get discussing...

dont worry about publishing it yet. when u make the book (and this project will go ahead) somone is going to publish it, just send it out to publishers. for fucks sake is its going to have all this imput and more of corse someons going to publish it.

the person u should really be E-mailing is the all mighty god MATT the creator of the series. hell he would help he did with the simpsons one. Character analisys from him, think about it.

this might just be worth it. i can try and find his email adress (i saw it somewhere)
