okok, you seem to avoid this thread, i will still post my thoughts here, now that i have seen the episode :)

So, it wasnt a Parasite Lost or Amazon Women class of episode. But, so what ? Those two are hard to beat. In my opinion yesterdays episode was better than the last two. Zoidberg seems to get more and more attention in the show and i start to like him. Also, we get to know that Kiff and Amy are still together. As a geek I couldnt stop laughing about the mute hologram projector and the laser disc like oversized "C"D. Yet another reason to like this episode: Calculon (showering with bender, tsk tsk tsk). Best LOLs for me: "oh, sorry, i see you are with Sylvester Stalone" and Breavehead :)
Overall: a good B (with only 3 or 4 episodes being an A for me)

I'm not scared of this thread!!! >

I thought that was weak, but I did get a few chuckles at parralel universe studios, fox sign, bender being hot water heater and zoidy's ink.  And now you know what I think!  Don't you all feel special? admit it, you do dont you?

I think "lobstertainment" was a lot better than "Bendless Love". It's certainly not one of my favourites either (well I didn't get the Stallone-gag. What's so funny about his skelleton? Why isn't he a "head in a jar"?). It's a Zoidberg/Bender/Calculon-episode which aren't my favorite characters. I guess it's time for another Zapp Branigan! Well at least there weren't Amy and Cubert on (Sorry guys). After all, let's see what the next episodes are.
I agree to the rating "B".

I give it a B-.  It had some funny stuff and I love Calculon... but it seemed to lag on an on and I was getting bored with the whole story.  I think Bendless Love was a little better than it, but still niether were bad.  Just not superb.

I only got to see the last 10 mins, but . . .
"I give it a C.  OK, not great.  As a result, we will not destroy your planet, but neither shall we provide you with our recipe for immortality"

I did love the "Oh, I see you're with Mr. Stallone" bit.

Other great gags nobody mentioned: The Variety cover, Bender with Calculon's checkbook, "As Seen on the Tar Channel." And that's about it.

Overall, unfunny.

And Calculon didn't know Bender because... oh, because we're all faithful Simpsons viewers and we already know that all powerful (Krusty, Mr. Burns) people forget the main characters (Bart, Homer).

And I've heard Hank Azaria playing a generic old Jewish man before, as well as an old Jewish former Hollywood bigwig.

Too much recycled Simpsons, not enough new satire, not funny enough, no cool new Amy costumes, no alien language 2 (although we managed to solve it this morning anyway, so screw them)....

And come on, couldn't they have come up with some good new LA jokes?

The Billy Crystal stuff was funny (especially everyone cheering when Zoidberg smashed his jar). He hasn't been funny since ripping on Palance's pushups. (Of course, compared to last night's "Simpsons" (WORST EPISODE EVER!! God, but that was awful), it was a work of brilliance.)

And, Ainoth? How DARE you mention Amy and Cubert in the same sentence? That's it, you're going on my list.

I'd have to say that this episode was pretty hackish.  Even if they were ripping off the Simpsons.  I guess the earlier episodes (this season) got my hopes up.

As far as TV goes it was a good show, but by futurama standards it was pretty weak.  At least they didnt have any damn boy bands though.  I hope futurama never sells out like that.

I thought actually the funniest joke was about the Los Angles subway which had to be the biggest waste of city tax dollars... EVER.

Hey, I resent that! I used to live around the corner from the Hollywood/Vine stop, and work directly across the street from the Wilshire/Western stop. It was incredibly useful for me, and for the 20 other people who commuted from eastern Hollywood to Koreatown (plus the 12 people who commuted the opposite way).

Now I live half a mile past the end of the subway and work about 20 miles past the end of the subway, so I guess I'm in the same boat as the other 8 million Angelenos who helped pay for it.

Actually, the problem wasn't with the idea of a subway, but with the incredibly corrupt process used to plan and build the system. Gosh, who would have guessed that when you appoint people who aren't in any way accountable for their actions they'd do a bad job planning out a public transportation system?

But hey, after the subway fiasco, the MTA board sure straightened up and handled the driver's strike well, didn't they? In order to save $12 million, they spent $180 million and crippled the city for a month, but they sure showed those bus drivers.... Gosh, who would have guessed that when you don't hold people accountable for a screwup as big as the subway that they'll screw up again?

Oh yeah, and Steve Soboroff wants to be our mayor now....

I didn't like it at all.  It spent a good minutes or so on that stupid black and white film that just bored me to death, and the jokes were few and far between.

Worst episode ever.  I haven't seen 3-7 yet though.  C-.

I can't really complain, because I laughed consistently throughout the episode...but it could've/should've been a lot better. The Hollywood satire has been done too often before, and this episode really didn't offer anything new. Also, I didn't quite get the Stallone bit. And Fry/Leela only get what, two minutes of screen time? That's no good.

Oh well...like I said, it did make me laugh. And Zoidberg is cool. My favorite dialogue exchange from the show:

Zoidberg: Bender, you said "wink wink" out loud!

Bender: No I didn't, raise-middle-finger.

The "Just play along like they did for Marissa Tomei" line was funny too. And of course, the episode scores points for not having N'Sync.

Yeah - that's what really disappointed me about that last Simpsons - nothing really happened to N'S(t)ync, just the guy falling out of the Matrix move.  Oh well.  It did create the best catchphrase in a while, though - Yvan eht nioj!

I'm straying off topic again.. but that simpsons episode was good... but N'sync made it ok.  The writers didn't need to have N'Sync, and I think the episode would of been better with out them.  I guess that is the whole, quest appearence every episode mentality of the Simpsons lately.

I agree.  Zoidberg is at his best when used more sparingly.  Although I did enjoy Crustacion(sp?).  Also, how does one have snoo-snoo with a lobster-creature-chick?  Or do I not want to know?

I was thinking this too, considering "The Cryonic Woman" is recorded right before "That's Lobstertainment" on my Futurama tape. However, in the begining, when you see the Planet Express Ship flying, it is over a barren wasteland - then it flies through the "O" in "Hollywood" and everything's pretty. Only (really nerdy) nitpick I have -- On "Cryonic Woman" the famous "Hollywood" sign has lost the "Holly" and reads "HOOD". Ay - I am a nerd!

Wow, this discussion really bridges the gap of time.

Anyway, I though it was not really that bad. Like the parts with Bender pretending to be Calculon's boiler, and all the people throwing pies.

I have to say, I just watched this one with commentary and I thought it was pretty funny that they mentioned CGEF and the person who kept saying the episode sucked was emailed by the guy who wrote it(not sure who was telling this story in the commentary).

I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me, and now I do like it. Some of those gags are spot on(particularly the way Zoidberg runs into Ebola, that was just classic).

I agree, it grew on me too.  I think what makes it a weaker entry in the series as a whole is that while the one-shot gags and sight gags can be very funny, and the B-story with Bender and Calculon is very funny, I just didn't really feel for the emotional stuff between Zoidy and Harold Zoid.  We laugh at Zoidberg too much for it to be funny - unlike the Luck of the Fryish, which was genuinely touching, because we care about Fry.  That's just my theory... also having listened to and been amused by that anecdote on the commentary.  :)

I think they should make a movie with Bender or the crew directing rather than Zoid.

An episode with Bender directing a movie would make me cry with joy, bringing together two of my favorite things:  making movies and Bender.
