I was stunned they would censor anything in Futurama. What will be next? When the crew eagerly awaits a meal from Bender laced with LSD? When Leela says the best line of any ep: 'Then every religion is wrong!' It was OK on FOX at 7pm but 11pm in Adult Swim they start censoring??? Aaaaghh!!! It was too good to be true, seeing complete eps. I guess that rules out seeing any additional hot tub footage from that (otherwise lousy) ep earlier this year with Zoidberg eating a flag. Is it worth writing Cartoon Network asking them to cut it out (egads, another online petition, those always work, don't they?). Sorry, had to vent .

Maybe we should send them an e-mail in which we say that we are VERY offended. Because of their censoring.

Hmmmm - No email from me for two reasons.
First, Cartoon Network is doing us a huge favor by showing and promoting the episodes to begin with. If any new episodes are ever made, a large part of the thanks will go to CN. Second, the cutting of one word, though sad, did not hurt the episode or ruin a huge joke. If every episode had suffered at the hands of a rabid censor, maybe, but this tiny cut was squarely aimed at keeping religious nuts off of their back because a lobster man equated Jesus with an undead minion of Satan. Bibles have been heavily thumped over smaller things than that.
If it is that critical you hear the word "Jesus", the DVD will be available soon enough. In the meantime, think of everything in Futurama that other channels would have cut (and I'm sure the Brits could tell us a story or two) and realize it's not that big a deal.
We should be sending CN emails thanking them and letting them know we are watching, not complaining about something this insignificant. If whole scenes or joke punchlines start to go missing, then we have a problem. But as far as I'm concerned, if they have to cut the word or two in order to show me five episodes of Futurama a week, so be it.

As I understand it, the US is a more religious society (in general). Well, certainly more than the UK. Thus I can understand, if not agree with, the decision to cut this sort of line. Better to cut this one small line which makes little difference to the overall plot and keep the super-religious nuts happy, than leave it in and have them baying for the head of Futurama on CN on a silver platter. If it was a more serious cut (like, for example, the ones here in the UK), I might understand a complaint more, but it's a trivial cut made for the benefit of a few people who can't take a joke to keep the show from attracting criticism.
Just my two pence.
P.S. I'm not trying to stereotype Americans by saying they're more religious, it's just a general observation on wider society.

CyberKnight: Yes, unfortunately, the U.S. has a very large number of fundamentalist Christians that can control society. You are stereotyping Americans, but it's an accurate stereotype.
I personally think that it's better that CN censor one word than fall under the threat of the fundamentalists (a large group - those who remember, the Southern Baptists boycotted Disney/Capital Cities/ABC for being too "gay-friendly" ) boycotting all of Turner Broadcasting and CN dropping Futurama because of it.
Accept it and be happy that CN is airing Futurama at all. Fox isn't.

Ah, it's good to live in a censor-free country. While I can understand the "better-cut-this-one-word-than-risk-a-boycut" argument may have merit in the minds of tv execs, it is a rather stupid cut to make. It's a great joke, and didn't they leave in the joke about the Second Coming of Jesus in "When Aliens Attack"? Those two situations are comparable aren't they? Besides, after some nut started complaining how "Married with Children" were too smutty/profane the show hit a new high in popularity, and essentially she saved the show from cancellation (afterwards the crew send her a Christmas basket every year to thank her for saving their job ). Still, it's nothing to start complaining about. We should rather thank CN for airing the show. CN cut one word, FOX cut 3 complete episodes!!And they better not mess with "A Tale Of Two Santas". That joke is as funny as the Sweet Zombie Jesus one. "I help those who help themself!"

I think the reason for the censor wasn't the word Jesus in and of itself - it was the context. Sweet Zombie Jesus, while funny, could be construed as offensive to some people, for religous reasons. I mean, think of the actual image of a Zombie Jesus, it opens up a whole pandora's box of religous "issues" that I think Cartoon Network would rather not have to address.
While I'm kind of disappointed at this censoring, in a way I can understand why they did it, and why other seeminly offensive words were left in. Just the word Jesus by itself would probably slip through, but since "Zombie Jesus" could be religitorially (not an acual word) offensive, they chose to avoid that issue.

Well, they censored Zombie Jesus again, this time on "Bender Gets Made". "Holy Zombie ______". Weird to hear the silence. Sombody at CN must be religious.

I still don't understand why a cut of a grand total of four syllables thus far is that much of a problem.

While I would have much rather they didn't censor it, I can understand where they're coming from, which is what I was trying to convey. It's definitely not the end of the world

The censorship isn't outrageous. But for "Adult" Swim that clearly says it is intended for mature audience 18 years and older, it is bizzarre. I found many of the cartoons they show go really ...um'... mature so "Sweet Zombie Jesus" shouldn't of been that hot of an issue. I'd think Turner might of been mad at the Atlanta jab. Seriously one of the censors on CN must be pretty religious or not tolerate poking fun at Jesus. O~well keep the episodes coming! :-D

People arguing over one little word omitted. Ah, brings back such memories. Memories like a woman suing because she wasn't warned the coffee was hot. Burglars get hurt while attempting a robbery, sue the owner and win. I guess what I'm trying to say is people do some dumb things, but this is just weird dumb. Anyway, they showed A Tale of Two Santas and we didn't even have to wait two years

OK, you people want something to complain about Cartoon Network? Here's one: at least twice now, they've completely spoiled an episode in the preview commercial. They showed the scene where Fry makes the worms leave in Parasites Lost and they also showed the scene from Bendin' in the Wind where Bender miraculously recovers in the hotel room. I think there was one more, but I'm not sure.

I think there was one more, but I'm not sure. Whatever, man... But seriously, about the whole "spoiling" the ending thing, I think that for people who've already seen the episodes (like us)they don't care, obviously, because they've seen it already. For people who haven't seen the ep yet, it's so out of context that it's easily forgotten, or seemingly non-understandable, since they're basically just trying to pick out some funny moments. Because of this, I think a lot of people forget about it before they actually watch the episode. As for the complaining about the censoring, I don't think it's so much that people really care (I don't really care), it's just something that's a little "weird", so there was a lot of conversation about it. No big deal.
