a couple questions about posts...

ok. what do the number and color of those stars under your name mean.

also, how come sometimes your post count says how many total posts you've made, no matter when you posted it, and sometimes the count tells you the number of that particular post?  i know your confused. here:
say you go to a topic and see a post you've made in the past.  it might say it was your 50th post, even if you've made 70.  or it could say it was your 70th post, even though it's not your most recent post.

Those stars indicate your rank.

One orange star: Poppler.
Two orange stars: Crustacean
Two green stars: Delivery Boy
Three blue stars: Bending Unit
Three red stars: Starship Captain
Four purple stars: Professor
Four indigo stars: Beaurocrat
Five multicolored stars: Administrator

Also, whenever anyone posts to a thread, all post counts for that thread are updated.
