Well, I am new here, so I will start with saying:

Hello!

This being done, there is a question I have. (As you may have guessed from the title. Or why did you open this thread?)

Anyway, will this be the final season of Futurama? And if so, is there any hope that FOX will change it's (out-of-)mind?

Zombie Jesus, well, I can only pass that compliment regarding the avatar back to you.

I have read the FAQ, but it didn't say whether the episodes Fox had ordered last year will be all shown in this season. The amount of finished episodes wasn't mentioned in the FAQ at all. So, I am clinging onto my feeble hope for at least one more season, even though I am bracing myself for the day those hopes will be shattered...

Furthermore, I am curious whether there are any new rumors regarding the show. I can hardly imagine that of the shows FOX is currently broadcasting, Futurama is the least succesful, and since animated shows are most likely not among the most expensive ones, it just seems illogical to cancel the show.

well i could answer it for you in a short answer... there should be 14 remaining episodes to be shown this season after that there is no more in production... i believe fox decides around feb. if they will order new episodes or not.. and there is no news on that front  :( we are all painfully waiting with you

Thank you... Well, I think I will keep on hoping that things will turn out fine in the end...

Incidentally, when I am reading this thread, every post in it, including my own, is spoken by Dr. Zoidberg's voice in my head. Which makes it all pretty hilarious, in spite of the sad subject.

I think the world would be a happier place if everyone talked like Zoidberg, why not?

Welcome to PEEL, Improfane! I wouldn't have had high hopes of a season 6 of Futurama... It's becoming more and more obvious that the show will be cancelled, and no one knows why - probably not even those in charge at Fox.

Well then again, we still have a tiny bit of hope even if Fox doesn't order new episodes.  Cartoon Network has the rights to show all the old episodes starting in January, but if Fox cancels the show they might sell all the rights to CN and we've seen CN resurrect other shows especially from WB.

Yeah, but Cartoon Network wouldn't get Billy West &Co to do voice-overs, would they? (I ask because I'm not sure)

I think some of the voice-actors would come back in a heart beat if the opportunity to do more Futurama presented itself. Particular John DiMaggio sounds like a hardcore fan of the show, Katey Sagal and Lauren would probably be available too, the most difficult would probably be Billy West.

The problem is more that Cartoon Network won't have the money to pay for a new season. The 10 million they paid for the rights to air reruns is their biggest purchase ever (as far as I know), compare that with the cost of making a Futurama episode and the chances are pretty slim.

How do you get your informations, regarding the voice actors of the show?

(And, yes, I know I probably sound like a complete n00b  ;))

I'm making educated guesses. Nothing of the above is based on something the voice actors have said.

But if you listen to John DiMaggio on the DVD audio commentaries you hear that he is a real fan of the show. That make me believe that he would be glad to return if he had the chance.

Katey only does Leela, I think it's possibly for her to do the voice, even if she gets other jobs. I heard something about a sit-com a few weeks ago.

Billy West is a fantastic voice actor, and is highly sought for. He might be too cought up in other projects, if/when a new season is made. I truely hope this isn't the case, but he will probably be the most difficult to get.

As I said, just educated guesses.

Actually I think Billy West would be easier to get hold of that Katey Sagal.  I may be wrong, but I think voiceovers are less time consuming than appearing in live action productions.  Most of Billy West's work is voice overs, while much of Katey Sagal's is live action.  I assumed that's why West was able to do DVD commentaries but Sagal wasn't.

By the way im new. Hi everyone. Cartoon Network has possibly just bought the rights to Futurama off fox so there may be new episodes in the next 12 months

I think Cartoon Network only bought the syndication rights, FOX still owns the show.

Maybe, it would be better for the Futurama to be killed now… I mean it’d better than to became a soapy soap. It’s just like with X-files, at first it was very good (I watched all the episodes) but since the season 5. I didn’t watched X-f any more.
But in spite of that, I really hope that there will be a new season…

Judging from the last 2 episodes (and the other 3 4ACV episodes we've seen) Futurama would have a long life ahead of it, if FOX wasn't so dead-set on killing it.

Look at "Jurassic Bark". 138 reviews on CGEF in less than one week, and an average rating of 92%! The episode with the second-highest riviews is "A Pharaoh To Remember", 124 reviews in 8 months. Many people say they went online to search for Futurama-sites after seeing "Jurassic Bark", just to share their opinion on this episode.

From what I've been led to understand, Cartoon Network owns the rights to show ALL of them...  and FOX doesn't own the show... that's one of the reasosn they treat it so shabbily...

Interesting possibilities here... either FOX goes into a flurry of showing episodes, trying to get all the remaining ones on the air before they hit Cartoon Network airwaves, or CN can advertise new episodes of FUTURAMA...  at least CN promotes the thing... full page ad in Entertainment Weekly and all...

X-Files became boring after three seasons, but aside that, I believe that Futurama would have enough potential for at least two or three "all new" seasons. Then it could boldy go where many good shows have gone before.

Unfortunately fox owns all the rights to the show, the only rights they dont have on it is publishing rights, Matt Groening retained these for Futurama, just like he did with The Simpsons
