I thought season 2 was the best season do you think that "how Hermes Requisioned his groove" is a good ep.

Season 2 was awesome, possibly because it had so many episodes. Cant go past Brannigan Begin Again (15), Fry and the Slurm Factory (13), Put Your Head on My Shoulder (19), My Problem With Popplers (a.k.a. The Problem With Popplers) (27)
All classics in my book!

yeah but Fox wasn't prepared for season 3.
They totally screwed the show.

I still haven't seen Anthology of Interests 1 and Mothers Day. They were shown on C4 at 8:30 a.m. On a school/workday!

Actually they were also shown on a Sunday at about 1:30, but i agree that it was easy to miss (i caught the end of the Leela one onwards).

Many people feel that season 2 is the best and while I don't disagree I have taken a wait and see attitude until we get the season 3 box set. Season 2 was also the longest season in Futurama's history and I think that it really helped in creating some continuity with the show. That and the creative staff really started to get their bearings and really started to fly with the show.

I am talking from a purely production run season and not an air season so I won't include episodes like When Aliens Attack and others from the first season production run. Even those are great episodes in their own right there was still enough left over that they could stand on their own. The Problem with Popplers is an alltime great episode as is A Head in the Polls, Xmas Story, Mother's Day and AOI I. I think this is the time when the characters really started to change into what they are today. An example of this would be Zoidberg and Amy as they seem to have changed the most since the beginning.
I think season 2 really showed where Futurama could go in the future. Season 1 was pretty outstanding but as time went by they just kept raising the bar on the quality of the animation, writing and acting. It is always fun to watch a later episode then watch say Space Pilot 3000 to really get a sense for how much the show has changed. The pacing, animation and style have all made great strides and season 2 really proved that they could produce a quality product week after week.

As we headed into season 3 I think the writers started to stretch out and test the characters themselves which made for some unusual stories (Parasites Lost, That's Lobstertainment and The Luck of the Fryish are all good examples of this) and coupled with Fox not showing it really made the entire run seem uneven. Again, when the third season set comes out we will see how good this season really is.

So all in all I think season 2 was a good turning point for Futurama and represented a transition from start-up animated program to a show that could stand out on its own and out of the shadow of the Simpsons. A show that could grow into something really great on TV and that has come to fruition with the Emmy award this year.

Why did you start two threads about this?

Anyway, season two is the acclaimed best season ever with season one following closley behind, there  were indeed some classic episodes like "The problem with popplers" and "why must i be a crustacian in love".

It also was great they included more than just Leela Fry and Bender, like they had a hermes episode, a zoidy episode and  a prof episode, all of which were great and are alot of the time the episodes that get people into the show.

So many great episodes in season 2, I can't wait for the DVD.  I've still never seen AOI 1, I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Agreed. Season 2 is definitely the best season. Some of my favourite episodes appear in this season, including 'Xmas Story', 'How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back', 'The Problem With Popplers'. It was also, in my opinion, the last season of consistently great episodes (at the time, I thought the quality slipped towards the end, but looking back now, they were almost all classics).

Season 3 was where the first not-so-great episodes crept in, such as 'The Cryogenic Woman', 'That's Lobstertainment!', 'I Dated A Robot', and 'The Cyberhouse Rules'. If the production-run Season 3 had continued further, it would have had even more less than average episodes, like 'AOI 2' and 'A Pharaoh To Remember'.

Yep... my favourite too. The Deep South is my favourite episode from that season for pure comdey value. Also there weren't many duds. They saved those for series 3 and 4  :p

I liked season 2 the best as well. Out of the 4 season 3 eps I've seen (The Honking, War Is The H Word, The Cryonic woman and parasites Lost) only WITHW has met season 2's standard.

I don't think Channel 4 showed AOI1 at 8:30am when they were in that run. I have seen it but I can't remember it though. The other week though we were at my sister's boyfriends house when it came on Sky. She had to drap me away from the TV just as Fry and Leela were about to end up in bed!

You're kidding, right? "Parasites Lost" together with "Luck Of The Fryish" ranks as the finest episodes of Season 3. And definetely on par with any season 2 episode.

I'll agree with most that season 2 is the best so far, when seen in overall perspective. Episodes such as "Xmas Story", "A Head In The Polls", "Why Must I Be A Chrustacean In Love", "The Problem With Popplers" and "AOI I" are all great shows. But other seasons have those tope epsodes as well:

    Season 3:
      Amazon Women In The Mood
      Parasites Lost
      The Birdbot Of Ice-catraz
Bending In The Wind (flame me  :p)
      Luck Of The Fryish
      Time Keeps On Slipping

    Season 4:
      Roswell That Ends Well
      Love & Rocket
      Leela's Homeworld
      Godfellas
A Leela Of Her Own (Sue me  :p)
Where No Fan Has Gone Before

What makes season 2 seem so fantastic, is that it avoided those less good episodes, such as "That's Lobstertainment" and "A Pharaoh To Remember".

But in all fairness, "The Cryonic Woman" is a 2ACV-episode. So if FOX had used common sense, even season 2 would've had a bad episode.

The Cryogenic Woman wasn't that bad... Certainly compared to Pharoah it is a piece of animated genius  :p

You may have guessed... I don't like Pharaoh.
