...I don't know where to begin. Oh wait, yes I do. For future reference, questions like this belong in the general Futurama discussion thread. Even that's a stretch, to be honest. But, that's probably the best place.

And if you need to know, many of the ladies here seem to find Fry at least superficially attractive, so I suppose there's worse characters to be compared to.

That's a weird use of eyeroll, by the way.

edit: Beamer, you bastard. I called him. Did you not hear?!

So you have eight fingers, an overbite, and huge eyes? :p

By the way, I agree with the others. This doesn't need its own thread.

My girlfriend didn't say anything. Why are not-existent things so unsociable? :(

Anyway, this is an excellent thread. From now on I'm going to make sure I read it at least four times a day.

Homer and Bart were my favorites back when I used to like them.

What if the Futurama characters were black?  Let's say Fry, Leela, Farnsworth and Amy were black, Hermes is white, and Bender and Zoidberg would obviously be the same.

What would the show be like then?  If Farnsworth were black I'd picture him as a Red Foxx type.

Everyone, Stum has spoken (in the form of a smiley). The moderators will have to delete Kurt's post, because Stum clearly doesn't agree with it.

You should do that again, but have them be yellow like The Simpsons!

Speaking of yellow Futurama characters, have you seen the couch gag for the Simpsons episode HOMR?

I wonder if they'll be yellow in Simpsorama, or if they'll just have their normal skin tone. Since Jay Sherman was yellow in A Star is Burns, the former might just happen. But I don't know.

And why the ? It really doesn't fit in with your post.

Yeah, nobody knows at the minute.

They yellowed up Fry for that couch gag, they yellowed up the cast of Family Guy and American Dad for another recent couch gag and they yellowed up Jay Sherman for all of his appearances, but they didn't yellow up Fry and Leela for a little cameo that they made in the background of another episode.

I think it depends on how they handle things. If it is just purely a case of people going back in time, then they'll probably be yellow, despite the fact that that makes no sense within both show's canon continuities. I mean, Matt Groening even appeared on The Simpsons as the creator of Futurama in one episode.

But if they do find a good way of handling it such as the Futurama cast traveling inside the fictional world of The Simpsons in order to prevent something that happens on the show from impacting the future, then they won't need to change their colours.

Hopefully they don't change the colours, but I imagine that they will. All of the mock-ups people have done of the characters in yellow just look horrible for some reason, though.

I think it's that the hair and clothing clashes with the bright yellow.

I Agree with Dr. Snrub that it's their hair and clothing colors that make the yellow look so odd. Maybe they could change some of those colors for the episode to make them look more appealing. For example, Leela's hair could be blue, like Marge's, and Fry's could be  red, like Groundskeeper Willie's beard.

Cool pics!   Like what you did with them all!

We all know Fry's name was originally going to be Curtis and Bender's was going to be URL, did any of the other characters were going to be originally named something?

Take for instance was Leela going to be called something else?

The black Futurama cast should feature black hair (except Hermes...blonde might be the sharpest contrast) ;)

About the yellow: Agree that the clothing colour does not harmonise with yellow skin. The only familiar looking character is probably Leela, as blue-ish hair was already established in Simpsons as normal colour.

That's exactly what they'd look like, if they do turn yellow in the episode, that is. They really do look like Simpsons characters in that shot.

Even without the yellowfication, I'm still worried the cast will look awful in shitty stiff HD Simpsons animation. Even worse with the really bright yellow skin they like to have nowadays.

I thought the animation was one of the few things that was still good about The Simpsons.

The most noticeable difference in the skin for me would've been the weird shade of yellow their skin was coloured during most of season 10 (except for maybe season 12's Tennis the Menace when they were experimenting with digital colouring for the first time).

The digital animation is better than alot of other digital animation nowadays, but it's still pretty obviously stiff and done cheaply, plus the skin color is usually really bright and shiny nowadays. It will definitely show a difference in the characters when compared to the usual great animation done for Futurama.

No; the animation on new Simpsons episodes is horrible, imo. It barely even resembles the older episodes, or even 10-19.

Nope. Wasn't being sarcastic. The animation in the earlier seasons is pretty crappy compared to the new animation.

I like them both for different reasons. The animation of the old episodes was fantastic BECAUSE of the mistakes and the weird quirks in it. It gave it charm and character. Above all, it really sealed it as a perfect representation of the industry standard at the time - which I think can still be said about the animation of the new episodes. The show looks different because no studio animates the way they used to now, so the switch was purely due to logistics as opposed to "we want the show to look flawless" or anything like that. There is no better or worse, just different. You can like both styles for what they are.

But I still don't think (aside from obvious things like the more constant incorporation of 3D animation, difference in skin tones, etc.) that the new Simpsons episodes are all that aesthetically different from the new Futurama episodes, and therefore I think the two worlds will blend just fine, visually speaking.

The really old ones, yes, but in the later part of the 1990s the animation is perfectly fine.
