Also, I don't think we really know anything about the credibility of the site in question, and as far as I can tell it hasn't been reported elsewhere (which, you would think it would be). Not to say the site owner is a liar or anything like that, but they may just not be trained to accurately discern and report information the way an actual journalist would be.
Yeah, it seems like they just saw the Billy West quote, interpreted it as having more meaning than it did and then turned it into an article to "get the jump on a story" when it wasn't really a story to begin with. I actually buy that Groening would say that and that Billy West would mention it off-the-cuff to the press. I just don't think it was intended to be anything more than a sign of optimism from the two of them (which, again, is still great to hear, it's just not really news).

The two have talked a lot about the possibility of reviving Fry & Co. one more time.
“An Internet series seems more likely than [a theatrical film] because we’ve talked about a film a few times and haven’t been able to drum up enough interest from Fox,” Cohen says.
But no formal discussions have happened and Cohen has taken a vow to take some time off, get some R&R and regroup later this fall.
Wednesday night, Cohen and Groening will host a live chat with fans on Comedy Central’s Web site.
“I’m excited for fans to see this episode,” Cohen says. “It’s my favorite of the series finales.”

Use the force spoiler tags, young Padawn. Use the force spoiler tags. But I also second your opinion. It could also refer to an only temporarily frozen universe, which also justifies the term "dire".
The wedding seems an arrangment with the frozen characters. There might be some humor in the Universe getting unfrozen in that scene, and this staged shenanigang suddenly becomes something live and real.

You think they'd regret it?

Leaving everything would sit well with me. I like the idea of that for some reason.

Like in Reincarnation? But just Well in Reincarnation it was only the PE building that got frozen in ice, so it's most likely the entire crew got frozen. I don't want it frozen
It may well be though.

You don't know that. It could be canon.
If it were canon they'd have to either explain how everything got unfrozen or have the crossover take place before Meanwhile. I don't think they'd spend time explaining how eveything got unfrozen for many reasons: a lot of The Simpsons fans might not watch Futurama so won't understand, it takes up air time, they want to focus on the crossover, etc.

I agree with you guys. The only way I would like the idea of the universe freezing is if they knew for sure they'd be doing more in the future. I just don't think a show like Futurama should have that kind of ending. Although the show coming back (again(again)) is possible, it's not 100%. If the show hadn't been cancelled, I think it would make a good idea for a cliffhanger at the end of the season.

It never is The THOH episodes of the Simpsons and the future episodes are never canon
So? This is neither. It absolutely could be canon, though it's also completely possible that it won't be. Plus, as far as can be told, "Holidays of Futures Past" was canon despite being set in the future, and most of the future-based episodes have taken elements from the previous ones, suggesting some degree of it all being canon. It won't have to address the end of "Meanwhile", regardless of what happens. Did they address Mars returning back to orbit in "Viva Mars Vegas"? Did they address Robert's resurrection from death? It's easy enough to assume that it's set way after the events of "Meanwhile", or possibly even before the episode happens, in terms of when the cast of Futurama go back in time. Poor continuity doesn't stop something from being canon. It's just an episode of The Simpsons where the Futurama characters make guest appearances.
