Quote from: David X. Cohen
Yes! I love Roberto too. He makes his grand final appearance in our second to last episode, "Stench and Stenchibility", later this summer... an armed robbery of a character played by none other than Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones. So he's going out with a bang.

That suggests to me that Roberto will re-appear with no explanation.

Well, that would not be so surprising. I think Roberto is not as important secondary character as Calculon in terms of continuity. He's there to be the lunatic criminal, he always comes back! But I hope there's some reference about his return, maybe in the middle of his monologue while robbing.

It's quite normal for dead robots to return with no explanation. I doubt Roberto will be any different.

Just watched the first act of the new episode.

Mixed feelings so far, I liked the prison scenes, but the others, not sure about.

The second act just ended, I kinda liked that more. For some strange reason, I enjoyed the monochrome-like segments explaining Bender's song. Pretty Entertaining.

So next weeks episode is supposed to feature a talking flame apparently. Sigh, I had so much hope for that episode before that. Hopefully it stays with the helium mining plot mainly instead.

Umm, It's Futurama. It could have been an alien, or maybe some kind of inhabitant of the Sun? Might be kinda cheesy, but I think they'll pull it off. I have high hopes for that episode still.

A talking flame? Maybe it's a statement on the recent sci-fi trend of "sentient suns". (The episodes "42" and "The Rings of Ahkaten" in Doctor Who, the Danny Boyle "Sunshine" film, that other film with George Clooney hallucinating his dead wife . . .)

"Recent" trend?! The only thing recent on that list is the Doctor Who episode "The Rings of Akhaten"; "42" is from 2007 as is Sunshine, and the George Clooney one (Solaris) is from 2002!

Although, they did rip into The Matrix 13 years after it was released, however that was DXC wanting to get his rant about it out of his system.

Haha, true. I guess I mean recent as in . . . recent in the history of sci-fi. Comparatively recent.

(Or I'm just getting really, really old. That would also be a valid explanation.)

They're all 21st Century recent! The Matrix was not.

Definitely recall reading stories with sentient stars back in the 70s or 80s.  That said, I haven't been watching any trailers for this season's Futurama eps because I don't want to bias myself one way or the other before watching.

Leela and Fry impersinations were pretty good.

I loved the look of Phil's face when the guy asked him to do Billy West doing Phil LaMarr. :laff:

Sounds somewhat effective way to continue Futurama along that other petition.

After a huge number of requests and this recent article, it appears that both the fans and the creative team behind this gem aren’t quite ready to lay this very successful series to rest. If fans can rally and show us an enduring commitment to the show, we’ll present this series as a crowdfunding opportunity.

What an odd site.

From the sounds of it, they're in no way affiliated with anyone from the show - they're just going to get these votes, then go to the people who make the show and say "We'll try to raise the money if you want us to".

At least, that's the impression I get. I'd feel a bit more at ease regarding the whole thing if they'd already done this with anything else, rather than it being such a new venture, but then, crowdfunding is a really recent concept.

I just can't see the internet realistically pooling together to fund an entire season of this show. Each episode used to cost in the area of 5 million dollars to produce, back when the show was on Fox. Without accounting for things like inflation or the cut production costs since the show moved networks, I'm just going to assume that that price is about the same, now, which would mean that they'd need a whopping $30 million to produce a tiny season of 6 episodes.

To put that into context, Veronica Mars' movie-adaptation has so far raised $5,702,153 for its production, which is almost three times the amount they were aiming for, whilst Zach Braff's next feature raised $3,105,473. Realistically, I doubt Futurama could raise more than $10 million and even that is going to be a really, really, really impressive feat if they can pull it off.

I think they'd be far more likely to turn to crowd-funding for a straight-to-DVD movie (or hell, a theatrical film like Veronica Mars and Zach Braff are doing - it doesn't make much different if it's crowd-funded) to wrap everything up, as they'd only need roughly about $20 million to do that at the same level as the previous DVD movies, and they could probably trim that down considerably if they did things like cutting back on guest-stars.

Edit: I should also add that Zach Braff's film is also being funded with (supposedly) a lot of Zach Braff's own money and money from a distribution deal that the film has struck, meaning that they're probably still going to spend in excess of $10 million on it, at very least. I wouldn't be surprised if the Veronica Mars movie is made with some of the people involve's own money, too.

That said, Matt Groening is worth a hell of a lot, so I suppose, if he wanted to, he could probably help fund such a project. I mean, I'd be amazed if the whole thing didn't turn a healthy profit.

I'm sure it's reliable in as far as what they're claiming to do.

I just think it's pretty likely that the site will approach David X. Cohen et al and they'll say "Thanks, but no thanks - if we decide to make a come back, we'll do it on our own terms".

I mean, if they want to seek crowd-sourcing, then they only need to take to Kickstarter, or even Indiegogo. It's not exactly difficult to set a project up on there.

Right here.

However, the comics are considered to be non-canon in terms of the show's canon, so I don't think it's official or anything.
