UK PEELers might have seen a new coca-cola advert on telly with a bloke mowing a lawn and then enjoying an 'ice-cold coca-cola'.

I saw this ad once or twice and thought there was something odd about it, and then it struck me. The music that plays during the ad bears a rather canny resemblence to the theme to a certain animated show we all know an love.

Have a listen for yourself at  http://www.coca-cola.co.uk/ads/ad_summer.html . Look especially for the underlying chords and 'bell' sound throughout. You need Quicktime and a reasonable internet connection to view it.

Does it sound like a rip-off? I think so.

I think this was brought up in another thread. They sound similar, but i don't know if they are close enough for a law-suit.

I don't think Coka-Cola are exactly plagerising, but they could have come up with a slightly more original theme tune...

It would be cool though, mega-bucks company FOX sues mega-bucks company Coka-Cola, probably for mega-bucks, and all about little old Futurama.  :D

Its just a coincidence probably, but when I heard it I looked at the TV expecting futurama to start.

Every time I hear the music, I am sat there, thinking "Why can't Channel 4 show Futurama?"

Saw that one.  Isn't that song thats like the Futurama theme, but isn't?

There's one knocking around, and there's another thread about it.

A) Why/how could we, who have no decision-making power/interest in the show, sue anyone?
B) Why would FOX want to?

Particularly considering that the Coke-comercial and the Futurama theme are both rip-offs of Psyche Rock. Well, at least the Futurama Theme is, and as much as I love Futurama I think Coca Cola ripped off the song, rather than a cartoon show.

For more info, try this thread at Alt.Tv.Futurama

Edit: got rid of some redundant words, and I still don't like the way that first sentence sounds.

Hmm... To be fair, I wasn't seriously suggesting this. Would make a funny headline though:

Die-hard animation fans sue Coca-cola on behalf of FOX. Spokesman says "We have no idea what's going on." Fans quick to aggree.

It does sound similar, but Coca-Cola probably based the music that Futurama was based on, not Futurama.

I saw the ad yesterday and apart from the "bell" sound it didn't remind me of Futurama  :hmpf:

It's not quite Futurama-ish, but it would make a good tune for a fansite done in Flash  :)

I spotted it as soon as I heard it. It is the same as a remix I dragged off the net months ago. I assumed that it was all done with permission.

It sounds like Psyche Rock.
