Most countdown images feature plot relevant details. Yet -as classic sci fi elements are often used as single gags- I wonder wether that scene is also one of those throwaway gags.

The instrument itself is a resonator guitar. "Dobro" is the name of a registered trademark held by the Gibson Guitar Corporation, used for a paticular design of resonator guitars.

The name "Big Caboose" might be fitting for some travelling folk musician with certain hobo-like qualities.
The combination of "Railway" and "Music" made me think of "Starlight Express", but I guess he will not be used for such a reference. Wrong kind of music, and the design also does not look glamorous/colourful enough.

I like how in the above picture Amy's big goggles are still smaller than the Prof's giant glassess, that poor half mad hlaf insane blind as a bat man.

Also Big Caboose seems very classic in his design, and that's a good thing!
