Has anyone heard yet if FOX has struck any deals with the creator's of Futurama for a movie yet? Other FOX show's like The X-files has already made a movie and is currently making another one. The Simpsons is in the making of a movie, but no theatrical release date has been revealed yet, and now I even heard that a Malcolm in the Middle Movie has been announced. I mean, Malcolm in the Middle is a great show and all, but I can't even begin to imagine what kind of plot the movie would have. Well, anyway, I mean Futurama has been out there and FOX, I know hasn't been to excited about having the show as part of it's primetime lineup from the beginning, but still, a Futurama movie would be great. There are so many plots that could be used and I bet it could generate much money for FOX. I know FOX regrets jumping on the Futurama bangwagon, but really, a movie would be a great idea and I know Matt Groening has said that he wants to do it. Does anyone know about any talks of a movie?

I'm sure that there is at least one other Futurama Movie thread here. I don't know anything but try here for an amusing trailer...

Why is it bad? It's a made up trailer for 'Fry the Movie'. If you have the time get it, but you don't have/need to.

from www.planetexpress.dk

"This is a trailer for a fictional movie called "Fry the movie". I (Anders) made the trailer inspired by the blockbuster trailers for all the crappy actionmovies Hollywood spits out. Based on the soundtrack from The Rock, I pieced together bits and pieces from various episodes and tried to synch it up with the music. I think it went pretty okay, but download it and tell me what you think."

Seems cool. I added it to my download queue  ;)

rumors about a movie or even more than one movies are in the air sinze the premiere of the series...from the begining i thought that that will be the better way to end the series (because the series has a determinated end)

Now that i found myself on sucha wonderful connection, ive downloaded both of the .avi videos at planetexpress.dk
the music video was astounding! Beats my work by a mile, easy...*sigh*
the "movie trailer" was ok, though not even remotely as cool as the music vid.

First, let me say the CGEF chat's dead at the moment, so here I am for once.

Fry: The Movie. At the moment, I'd say the live feed for Big Brother would get more paying customers. (In fact it does, since Fry: The Movie isn't in theaters yet.) Probably not the movie's fault, though TV shows turned into movies... well, let's not get into that. (coughRingmaster) ...or video games (coughMarioBrothers)? Suck.

Long story short, I'd go see the movie, but it ain't gonna be no E.T.

I wonder how they'd approach it. Would there be an assumption that viewers knw where Fry came from and how the gang got together, sort of a retelling of the futurama story? Or more like an episode, just longer? Or like a lengthy episode, and they'd have to rehash some backstory for neophytes. Well, whatever. I'll go see it (if it ever happens) because I'm a blindly devoted Futurama fan.

If it ever did happen, it would probably go straight to video/DVD. I didn't think a Simpsons Movie would be made because I read an interview that said there wouldn't be one because there was too much money disputes and greed, much like the live action Krusty show.

That video clip is actually kind of clever. A funny spoof on all these generic trailers that Hollywood keeps belching out on us.
I haven't read the trilogy movie news, but that would be the most awesome thing in the history of time and space ever! George Lucas eat your heart out.

I think if they do a movie, they should do a takeoff of LOTR, with Fry as Frodo, and the One Package instead of the One Ring. That way, they could do a short prologue explaining Fry's past, plus the other characters'.

EDIT: here's more of the cast if they did this:
-Fry: Frodo
-Farnsworth: Bilbo
-Morbo: Gandalf ("Puny Earthlings! Do not be so eager to deal out death and justice, or my race will TEAR YOU APART!!!" )
-Cubert: Gollum
-Flexo: Boromir
-Scruffy: Gimli
-Wernstrom: Saruman
-Amy: Arwen
-Leela: Galadriel
-Bender: Sam
-The Crushinator: Rosie (the hobbit Sam's in love with)
-Hermes: Merry
-Zoidberg: Pippin
-Robot Devil: Sauron
-Mom: The "King" Ringwraith
-Mom's sons/Clamps and Joey Mousepad/Roberto/Robot Santa: The Ringwraiths
-Nibbler: Aragorn, with his distant relatives being Isildur and Isildur's father
-The Omnicrons/The balls: the Orcs and other  Mordor baddies
-Zapp: Legolas (c'mon, it'd work with the joke that the elves are gay)
-Kif: Elrond
-The Destructor: The Balrog
-El Chupa Nibre: The Cave Troll in Moria

Actually, I tried to find the closest match in terms of personality, importance in the show, and fan opinions. Everybody hates Cubert, and Gollum is despised by mostly all in LOTR. Perfect match. Besides, one can easily see Cubert arguing with himself.

Oh, and it can be Middle-Universe, the lands being planets, Moria being a black hole, and etc...damn, maybe I should see if I could come up with a script for this...I'll see if I could send it to Groening....

EDIT: That'd be a surefire way to send Futurama out with a bang...if they get it right...can you imagine three Futurama movies, all 3-3½ hours long? And who wouldn't laugh like hell at seeing the Ballruk-Hai and the Omnicrorcs attacking Helm's Deep?

They've been saying that for the last 2 years. Matt always wanted to do a Futurama movie, once the show ended. I'd rather have 3 more seasons (or just one) than a movie.

If they did that for a movie, a lot of people would be extremley dissapointed, it would be ok for an episode, but in a movie I'm sure most people would want to see them in the own movie, not a parody.

The Futurama Movie would be great, but it should not be a parody. A parody of LOTR might make a good issue of the comic, if it was timed carefully with the release of the third film for maximum enjoyment by fans who haven't read the books.

The plot should really just start with a delivery, but then revolve around stuff happening on the Earth. The sewers wouldn't be a bad place to visit either.

If there were to be a movie, it should take the characters places they've never been and allow them to do things they never could on TV (and no, I don't just mean in terms of nudity  :D). There's no more show, so the 'reset button' can be thrown out of the window. Our heroes don't have to end the film exactly as they started it. Let's have 'The Wrath Of Cohen'!

A Futurama movie could be a good idea, but a futurama parody of something else is a stoopid idea.

Personally, I agree with Teral. I'd rather another season of 15 or so episodes than a movie. In fact,I'd rather that the show attain cult status in death, so that next time Groening/Cohen come up with something good, it doesn't get ignominously axed in the back.

did I say that this was the final word? I was just suggesting, and I suggested with much detail. It would be funny, but I do think they will do an original plot.

Well, they cancelled the original star trek series in the 70's?  only to come back with motion pictures which are still being released and three "take off series"

if the series doesn't continue then i will doubt it'd be the last we'd hear from it...

Well, that's just though luck for the Aussies.  :p

If a Futurama movie was made issues like this would not be of concern. Futurama is primarily made for the American market. But fear not, I'm sure a movie would be independent of the series, in the sense that only very basic concept (like Fry's love for Leela, Benders folksinging, etc) will be referenced.

That's the way most series-to-movie translations work. Take Star Trek as example, even if I hadn't seen TNG I would've understood "First Contact" and "Insurection".

Let's hope then they don't go into stuff in the movie about Kif's offspring, Leela's parents or Fry being the saviour of the universe or something...  :)
