Although I am among those who finds the metal-melting miracle that is Hermes’ skin to be too farfetched, I do appreciate that the episode is well-structured enough to nicely set up that and other plot developments. However, what happened to Mark 7-G? It would seem that he was relieved of duty once Hermes rehired himself, but we see him still at Planet Express later on when he suggests getting an extendo-arm upgrade.
So...what if eating Hermes’ skin only heated Roberto enough to weaken him, and then Mark 7-G surprisingly showed up and used an upgrade, or some ability that he already had, to defeat Roberto and save the day? Then Hermes would have had double comeuppance by having to thank both Zoidberg and Mark 7-G.
There then could be various reasons why Mark 7-G would leave and Hermes’ status quo as Planet Express’ resident bureaucrat would be restored; perhaps he still finds some humorous reason to fire Mark 7-G anyway (maybe Hermes claims that the method Mark 7-G used to defeat Roberto was grossly inefficient and fires him, thus bringing the episode full circle), or perhaps Mark 7-G voluntarily leaves since his new upgrade or ability or whatever could be put to better and more efficient use elsewhere. Who knows, if Mecha-Hermes’ body wasn’t damaged too badly in defeating Roberto but Mark 7-G himself was, Mark 7-G’s brain could be put into Mecha Hermes and he can go off to fight bigger battles, bureaucratic and otherwise (and this might be too much at this point, but maybe Roberto’s brain would somehow end up in Mark 7-G’s damaged body and get caught, escape, etc.; that robot body is a more appropriate size for our lovable lunatic, and since Roberto shaped Mecha-Hermes’s head into his own image, he could do the same again here).
