*sorry for the double post, but this is important enough to merit its own attention*

Hold up hold up hold up!!!

PATRICK STEWART IS GOING TO GUEST STAR????

Maybe he read my fan letter!! :D

(ok I didn't write a fan letter...) But wouldn't that be sweet if they used him to voice a rival captain of Brannigan's, as we had suggested last year? Then I KNOW they're reading this forum!

John DiMaggio posted a picture of himself with Patrick and DXC back in January... :p

Nixon... is the oposite of boring... so being a politician has been proven to produce exciting figures and characters.

Headless Agnew was pretty great too... oh, and Cheney was in that one ep... talk about good interesting designs and characterization... evil characterization it may be, lol.

Today on the Countdown, Senator Chris Travers!

Dunno why, but there's something about his design that looks different-y in the Futuramaverse....
I think it's the eyebrows.

Anyway, I agree that he doesn't look very interesting. I wonder who he's voiced by?

I'm guessing that he is the equivalent of Mitt Romney -- the (rather boring) challenger to the controversial incumbent President of Earth.  Even the name is rather similar -- one-syllable first name with the same vowel in the same location, and a two-syllable last name.

Today on the Countdown, another clip! Which again, us UK-ers cannot view, so I'll ask the magical droobey on YouTube...

The clip is called "Crowded Field of Candidates"... :D

It wasn't negative!

And you don't really need Twitter, almost everything Futurama-related that we get from other sources appears in this thread. :p

And man, that clip was fairly boring, except for Morbo and that "Saying in Alaska." woman. :hmpf:

I thought it was funny.  Even though I knew the "You will be destroyed!" line was coming a mile away, the delivery and context were so good that I laughed out loud anyway.

I'm sorry, wha? I fell asleep halfway through that clip. Not that I'm singling out Futurama. I'm just not a fan of political humor.

Except when Sideshow Bob is involved. Or Nixon's head.

I think they put up that clip to show why Leela decides to help that guy with his election campaign.  Though this is an important plot aspect, it is not an interesting one.

As e.g. LaO had to show Fry's dissatisfaction with his delivery boy job, the main focus was on Fry's "cop adventures".
So, Leela's actions as campaign helper would have been much more interesting/entertaining preview-clip material than the reasons for her decision.
(I HOPE her actions will be more entertaining than what we have just seen...otherwise, that episode will have serious problems)

Alright, first off; I'm leaving PEEL for a good amount of time. I want more time with my friends, so I can still spend time with my girlfriend. (And yes, Horny Teen got his kiss! :D )

This clip felt like overkill to me. I just, didn't like it. A lot of things were off. Ugh.

I predict that in the next Q&A session (AKA "debate") Senator Chris Travers will out-do the others: "I promise to cut taxes to zero, expand services and balance the budget!" Of course, the election will be decided by the robot vote, so Nixon wins again.

Why do you have to consciously decide to leave PEEL so as to spend time with friends? I've started visiting here a lot less frequently as of recent but it's not a conscious decision. I'm spending much more time with friends than I used to due to a change in my living arrangements and now I just come here less as a result.

I'm not having a go, at just seems like a really strange thing to do to me.

She's probably got a lady-boner going on for Travers because he's from the Senate:flirt:

Me too.  :D  It's not like they're both gonna change overnight just because they read a piece of paper with their futures on it.  Leela's still gonna be attracted to men who are more successful and cleaner than Fry and he's still gonna be well... Fry.

You can't change a persons personality. Besides their futures could well change - although in the commentary someone said that they've written a reason for Leela slapping Fry, so it seems the writers might have a general plan. I hope it's in this season. This season is looking good (perhaps a little political, but you've got to have a little)

Call me the pessimist, but...

You always have to have some carrot hanging there to keep some people wondering what the heck is going on with these two.
That's how Billy West called F/L stuff last summer. His words are just a statement of fact: The F/L ship was created to manipulate the show fans. At least some of them. That's why F/L struggle never ends and reset button repeats being pressed again and again. Sad but true :).

It hasn't been a complete reset as of late though. Just...  "off and on".

I wish they'd just pick one and be over with it.

Actually, entire season 6B was one big "Off". "Law and Oracle", "Ghost in the Machines" and "Fry Am the Egg Man" contributed to that. Other episodes were neutral. The Futurama team had to create an another "Last episode ever". So we've got the ambiguous "Overclockwise", which left a sense of hope for forthcoming "On".

West's statement seemed rather like the obligatory defence towards his employer.
Reading between the interview's lines, it seemed West was rather bored/nerved by "the same old routine". Sealing the deal would deprive the writers of the necessity of the predictable "putting them 99% together, and find a last second excuse to undo it".

Especially with shorter Futurama episodes (and some of the newley introduced "rushed endings"), they just do not have the time/luxury for this last-second-undo any more.

About the fans wondering:
They might have wondered wether these two characters will end up together, but the writers already hinted/answered that question.
Right now, a (non)couple status regarding two out of three protagonists is non-identifieable. That is just bad character constellation: Fry's, Leela's and Bender's special status as protagonists is often owed to the fact that their private lives are examined in detail (unusual for a workplace sitcom).
Their relationship status is probably one of the most important parts of their private lives: To cut a long story short: No matter how much we know about their private life, their relationship status is one of the first things the viewer should notice.
