Opening this for the Random Order Test. It appears that most, if not all, season one episodes do not have a specific thread in which to discuss their merits. Shame, that.

Wow we didn't have a thread for this either? So old...

I don't know how I would rate the older episodes yet until I do the Random Order thing so I will hold off giving it a number. However I can say this is one of my favorite overlooked episodes. It is so basic in its conception, yet I am drawn to the story. Since it is first season it also has a lot of breathing room and isn't rushed at all. Too much though? Not sure. I felt the pacing in Season One was easy to watch.

Good episode, and there was lots of shirtless Fry.  A nice, solid, fun episode that's perfect for new fans.   Typical Futurama (which is by no means a bad thing at all.)

I really like this episode. I especially like the scene with the phone call between Leela and Bender.  :)

Welcome back to PEEL, SuperiorKnowledge. ;)

This is a classic episode that I don't like to watch, since I've seen it so many times. Of course I'd watch it a billion times if I had to, but if I had to choose a few episodes to watch for fun or whatever, this wouldn't be on the A-list.

Why? Because Sky1 only own episodes like this, The Honking and Amazon Women in the Mood. I've seen it so many times.

Oh, and all 4 movies. Every. Single. WEEK.

This is totally a nine out of ten for me. I love this episode. It's one of the first, and still one of the best, Futurama stories.

This is such a classic episode with a great plot, interesting new characters, and a fun exploration of the Bender/Leela dynamic (always my favorite) to boot. By this point in the first series Futurama was really starting to know exactly what it was and how to deliver, and this episode proves it - it's funny, it's heartfelt, it has a great setting, and it's full of sci-fi fun. It even has the benefit of using minor crew members Amy and Zoidberg very effectively.

A good episode, but one of the weaker ones of Season 1.

Oh really? I'd like to hear your reasoning behind that one. I think this is one of the stronger Season 1 eps, up there with Hell is Other Robots and Fear of a Bot Planet.

Kind of hard to describe... it might be because the pacing a bit too slow for my liking, and aside from Fry's grasshopper speech, there isn't a huge amount of laugh-out-loud episodes.

But like I said, it's still a good episode. Season 1 was consistently good, but not consistently fantastic.

I can see you point, especially with that last line, but at the same time Season One has become the heart and soul of the show, the meat and potatoes of the 5 course dinner. Sure it's not as glamorous or fancy as the dessert episodes, but it is the basis from which all other episodes stem from. This is why I am hesistant to rate this one because I know my judgment would be partially cloudy by the nostalgia glasses.

Yeah, well I think if I were to be perfectly honest, I'd rate this episode 7.5.  I've only rated two other Season 1 episodes below it, (Mars University at 7.0 and Fear of A Bot Planet at 6.5), so yeah. Good, but not the best.

I really liked this episode....and it's where we get our rank of Liquid Emperor.

However, I don't think it's one the best of Season 1.  Better than average, yes, but not the greetest.  Still, a good plot line and good lines from Bender (I'mnotgivingmynametoamachine) and Fry (the grasshopper story) = good/better than average episode.

It's hard to rate these episodes as these are the type of episodes we reference when rating new ones that come out.
However, I'll give it an 8 (trying not to have nostalgia creep into my vote) for the reasons listed above.

I watched this episode for the fiftieth time(estimation, probably more) today on comedy central and just noticed that Bender had a Homer Simpson patch when Fry was the leader.

This is why I truly love Futurama more so than any other show.  I find new things 13 years after watching them.

Was not so keen on that episode:
The alien culture was great, and memorable.
Yet, the whole plot flow was rather meh.
(As stated before: I dislike the "Leela is the greatest, and everyone should have listened  to her" themes, as in the style of MTS and BBA)

One of my favorite episodes.

"So after I specifically asked you not to touch anything, you drank a bottle of strange blue liquid? It could have been poisonous acid!"

"It could have been. But chances were equally good it was an Emperor."

Probably one of my least favourite of Season 1. But, that's like saying this pile of gold I got today is a bit dirtier than the pile of gold I got yesterday. With the exception of Mars University, of course.

This is my favorite episode from the first season. It sets the bar for Fry's "Act first, think later" mentality. The Trisol aliens are well-developed, too, and I like that we get to see them later in the series as well. I'm pretty sure one of them comes to Fry's funeral in The Sting.
