Who knew that "The Futurama Holiday Spectacular" was so garbage that it won the Environmental Media Association's award for best episodic comedy?

Who knew that "The Futurama Holiday Spectacular" was so garbage that it won the Environmental Media Association's award for best episodic comedy?

For starters, the competition wasn't tough:

Quote
The cartoon “Futurama” pitted its episode “The Futurama Holiday Spectacular” against Betty White’s “Hot in Clevend” episode “Elka’s Snowbird” and the “Nurse Jackie” episode “Mitten”.

Secondly, it had Al Gore in it.  EMA don't care what he does in an episode, if it has Al Gore in it, they'll love it!

If Futurama had lost to an episode of a TV Land sitcom whose only strong point is that America's Oldest Living Sweetheart is in it, I wouldn't want to live on this planet anymore.

Also, I guess the environmental aspect of The Holiday Spectacular is pretty pronounced (in the first segment in particular--but the second and third segments deal with, I don't know, fossil fuels and the dying off of once-vital species), so it's not exactly an undeserved win. The award itself is probably kind of meaningless, but it's nice to see the show recognized for something.

Actually, come to think of it, all of the segments in the holiday spectacular were scientifically grounded arguments about conserving the environment (and not mutating pine trees I guess).....

New episode title revealed by the Copyright Catalog: "The Six Million Dollar Mon".

Huh, that sounds more like the cyborg Hermes episode than 'Farewell to Arms'. I wouldn't be surprised if they're both that episode but 'Farewell to Arms' is now an abandoned working title.

That definitely is the cyborg Hermes episode - the title reference says it all. Either "Farewell to Arms" is a completely different episode, or as you said, it's been abandoned as a working title.

If the latter is the case, I've gotta say that it's a shame because I thought "Farewell to Arms" was the perfect title for an episode about somebody chopping their arms off. :P

But the ep description didn't just say arms, it said limbs.

Good title, great plot idea, hope they deliver.

I bet Farewell to Arms was a working title that's been abandoned, but it was a clever title. This one's not bad either, though, so it's all acceptable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched it after realising that the same joke is basically in 'Evil Dead II'.

I'm not looking forward to TSMDM, I mean, yeah he's gonna chop off his arms and stuff, but then at the end he's gonna get them back. Why make a change this big for just one epiosde? At least let him keep like a robotic arm or something, I mean Hermes' colours and clothing could use a little spruce up.

Plus he'd be 99% cooler.

Admittedly it is a little wild and the episodal nature of the show means he'll get his arms back. But it could still be well done, and I'm not going to discredit it before I've even seen any promo material or something of the like. Hermes would be pretty awesome with a permanent robotic arm, though.

Apparently yes, so yup, a song does sound good.

And this time it appears they are purposely making it to be a mid-series finale, unlike "The Mutants are Revolting"/"The Futurama Holiday Spectacular". :D

Oop, looks like he's got more than one ep in 7A!

@DannyJC13 2 episodes currently in 7a, that is correct.

Even more good news!

Hey #futurama fans, thx for watching the newly syndicated eps! We are currently doubling our ratings from the most recent new eps!

Whilst I like the songs in 'Bender's Big Score', they can't hold a candle to the songs in 'Hell is Other Robots', 'How Hermes Requisition His Groove Back', 'A Tale of Two Santas' or 'The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings'.

But then, the songs in 'Holiday Craptacular' are outright bad. I don't really know what the deal is with the musical numbers taking a turn for the worst. Ken Keeler still writes them to the best of my knowledge, and he always has done so it's not like they're down to personel changes.

"You may find your victory pyrrhic, when subjected to this lyric, for a trillion years or so!"

And not to nitpick, but it was the S.S. Anything Goes - in reference to the musical 'Anything Goes'. Although I would have prefered it if it were the S.S. Everything Goes because then it'd be something of a joke.

The recent-ist news we've had is that Eric Rogers is writing 2 episodes for Season 7A, and one them will contain a song.

Oh, and we've had news on the Volume 6/Season 6B DVD/Blu-ray release...

I hope it's a good song.  In the year 252525 was far and away the best song in Season 6 and I'm probably the only one who enjoyed the Rumbledy Hump songs.

The ones in Craptacular had funny lyrics, (when granny's fruitcake has reached critical mass, it can be regifted straight to Santa's ass!) but the melody just butchered them and turned them into a dreary monotone.

In the year 2525 was great, but I hesitate to count it given that it was a parody number - singing funny lyrics over another song, like Weird Al. The rumbledy hump songs were good for what they were, but they weren't huge musical numbers - just little kids' songs. So yeah, I liked them for what they are, but again, I hesitate to count them with the other stuff.

I asked Eric Rogers if the mid-series finale had been constructed to play out like a mid-series finale/break, he said:

@DannyJC13 something like that!

First proper 2-parter? :D

Hmm, I hope it is a two-parter. Futurama has been crying out for a two-parter for a while, especially given the recent pacing problems. Now they need to make enough content to fill it, no filler please...
