There's an interesting interview of Ottawa "comix" artist Dave Cooper in Saturday's National Post. He was personally hired by Matt Groening to help design the Futurama tv series.

y'know. that post would've made more sense if there had been a link to a copy of the interview and no pukeman in the end.

Looks like the guy was hired by Matt to do some design work for Futurama, what exactly is newer mentioned. In fact Futurama only gets a passing notion, so nothing big I guess.
