You did ensure to vote 1/10 to begin with, right?

I hope the writers make a montage episode next season just to mess with you.

If next few episodes of next season is as bad as this last one I'm going to stop watching it.

Well, looking at this season, i can pretty much tell that this is the way futurama is anymore, even though maybe we might get a few epic ones in there.

But I still loved the episode, nonetheless. 8.5/10, awesome.

I thought the first segment in this episode was delightful. I enjoyed the common cliches found in typically 1920 animations such as the characters bouncing and nearly all the objects being personified. I pray that the next two segments are as great or better than this one.

So, are we happy now that

I guess it's not canon, but can the writers really turn their backs on their relationship now that this can is opened?

Bender's comment seems so apropos for those of us who ship: "That's all you get, jerks!"

The second segment lacked typically Futurama humor. I was expecting it to be more true to and 8-bit game with the cutscenes and inventory, and perhaps more 8-bit music. The 8-bit music (however little there was) was probably the highlight of the segment in my opinion.

Act three: Anime Fry is pretty damn hot. :D

So many good things to say about this, but I think I need to re-watch to fully absorb.

I loved all of this and also need to rewatch to fully absorb it, the jokes kept getting fired at me. I don't think there was a weak part of the three. They were all great. I was most amused by the anime segment but damn, that was great overall.

I thought it was super.  Those segments would have held their own even without the novelty of the different animation styles - that was just icing on the cake.  Sweet, delicious icing.  Mmmmm.

Really shippy too.  Also, Fry turning down sex for a science lecture?   :laff:

I really didn't expect this to be very good, but I was delightfully surprised to see that it was awesome! The first segment really nailed the "old timey" cliche the best, while the video game one was probably done the worse, see what Leww said in regards to the actual video game aspect (I personally liked the segment anyway). The anime aspect was done pretty good too. Cubert's quick cameo was hilarious.

Agreed, Cubert was hilarious. I also laughed way too hard at Fry's rejection of Leela's advances during the physics lecture, which was totally random and I don't know why it was that funny but it was. I thought Stephen Hawking was excellent and I loved the Fry/Bender activation scenes in the anime segment.

Agreed.

I'm not sure how I feel about the episode. I'll need to re-watch it tomorrow when I can actually watch the show and not have to try to listen around family.

Fry turning down sex for a lecture was odd. It was like Leela and Fry switched personalities there for a min.

The anime parody part kinda annoyed me but then again I love anime and it was a horrible paraody which I guess was the point but still.

I need a shirt that says "Byte my 8-bit metal ass!" Seriously.

I'd give it a 12 if I could. Wow! Yes, I  think the crude video game segment was the weakest portion, but still hilarious (I loved the "Streetfighter" gag of Bender hitting Fry). And WHOA--Leela coming on to Fry really heavily? That was a rarity!

I think I loved the anime segment the best. It brought me back to the times I would rush home to catch Robotech after school. The dubbing of "English" over Amy's dialogue, Bender pointedly saying how good their English is, Cubert and the seal being overly cutesy and gratuitous, and Zoidberg's "intricate" dance of peace--which was just really lazy animation--really, really nailed all those crappy and wondrous Japanese cartoons of my youth.

I was pleasantly surprised by the video game segment.  I expected a bunch of fighting in it but instead was treated with a deep scientific/philosophical argument about the purpose of science.  I expect nothing less from Futurama.   :)

Thirded.

I also need to give the episode a rewatch, I shall in the morning. I liked what I saw, but it wasn't as hilarious as I was expecting given the excellent clips I'd seen. The first segment was definitely my favourite of the three.

I know this episode isn't canon, but one question nags me:  Didn't Farnsworth invent Diamondium?  Perhaps he really didn't and lied, or maybe he launched the comet into space and forgot about it and it came back.  Maybe both Farnsworth and Wernstrom both got their ideas for Diamondium and Diamondillium from the same comet.   :laff:  Probably not worth reading too much into but w/e.

Louis, I don't know, but if he did, astute observation.

One thing that bugged me just a little is how the third act seemed to use the same concept as a Homestar Runner, Strongbad Email cartoon. I guess it wouldn't bother me so much if HR wasn't pretty much dead and that I miss it. I'm sure there's other posters out there that know what I'm referring to.

This was a great episode, the animation was really great (except for the video game segment, which was the point) and I laughed so much throughout all three segments.

I also liked that we got to see the God Entity again at the start.

May be because I had a crap day but I really liked this episode. It was spontaneous and very casual and it worked pretty darn well. I enjoyed seeing the different styles of animation, particularly the old 30s style. I also have to say that Bender looked awesome in the anime segment and at the same time reminded me of Bender from last week's episode a bit.

I like your word "casual" there... I mean, I don't know what's ever not casual about Futurama, it being an animated sci-fi comedy and all, but I feel like this episode didn't try too hard to be funny or smart, it just was both of those things naturally. I thought the three segments flowed together nicely (although I'd have to watch it without commercials to really decide that) and, though it was unlike any other episode, it felt like good ol' Futurama.

Enjoyed it, though tired on first viewing. Best segment was the 8-bit video game one, wasn't too fond of the 1930s one, but will probably improve on repeated viewings. I loved the animation, and it was miles better than the Christmas one.
