I get what Hein is saying, but I'm way too much of a completionist to not own every Futurama DVD set. (That said, disc one of the Volume Six DVD set is probably the weaker disc; you could throw that one away and still be left with a bunch of good episodes.)

I think it's season 3, disc 3 maybe that I could most easily toss of any of them. And even that would make me sad.

Dude, EVERY TV show DVD set is going to have a couple weak episodes on it. Even if someone agrees with you on this episode, no one's going to care that you own a set of a show you like just because it has the episode with the whale in it. Grow up.

Also, you really care about the math of the way the discs are set up? God.

Seems you failed to get the point at all. Or you suffer from the internet phenomen "importanitis" ("The ability to comment everything leading to the believe that everything is suddenly one's business").

Josh came up with that theory that every decision regarding a collection (or elimination regarding certain pieces) is based on a wanted perception in other people's eyes. (Well..some internet users might even act that way, to be fair on him)
Well..my decisions are based on my taste alone, and on my own assesment wether I want a piece in my collection.

I do not know how you see it (and -to be honest- I could not care less). You are of course free to base your own decision on "What spiderman999 and Xenalover have to say about it". Your choice, which is none of my business.

Hm...it seems some people like you do care that this DVD will NOT make it to my collection.
it's rather I do not care about THEM ;)

I can sorta see why you wouldn't want a stain tarnishing your collection, but what I find hard to relate to is just how much you hate Möbius Dick. I think it's the best ep out of the whole of 6B, but for you it's your main reason for not buying the set?...

Yo Leela Leela sucks compared to it, and a lot would agree. I'm not saying you're wrong for not liking it, if you don't then you don't like it, but at least it was Sci-Fi and had great animation. Surely you can at least appreciate those aspects of it if nothing else?...

(That said, disc one of the Volume Six DVD set is probably the weaker disc; you could throw that one away and still be left with a bunch of good episodes.)

The only disc to even consider throwing away would be a disc containing Holiday Craptacular and Yo Leele Leela and nothing else. Luckily it doesn't exist so we don't have to make that decision...

Even for yourself it's ridiculous. It's not one disc with just that episode, it's a disc with a bunch. This ep happens to take up a small amount of menu space. That's all. You can watch the other episodes on it if you want and just ignore it. Like I do with with lots of show episodes I own. Like I do with the abysmal 300 Big Boys (on a disc that I've still kept).

I mean, if I tossed the Temple of Doom disc from my Indiana Jones set, that could at least make some sense given that I don't really use it and it just takes up space. (Even then I wouldn't, because....I just don't care.) But even that would be far removed from tossing a disc with other episodes I liked just because one episode would "stain" my collection or whatever other melodramatic nonsense.

There just isn't any universe where this isn't irrational behavior.

2 of my 3 fave shows are American, so not really. It's not the country it's made it, it's the quality and the enjoyment I get from it.

"We're whalers on the Moon, we carry a harpoon, but there ain't no whales so we tell tall tales and sing our whaling tune..."

Maybe they should've tried looking in the fourth dimension then? When will they learn? Those idiots! :nono:...

Seriously though, I feel like I can't say it enough, but Möbius Dick rocks! Hating this ep makes Otis sad, not as sad as canned whale, but still very sad. I don't understand what is so bad about it, I mean it's one of the most Futurama-y eps of Season 6 if you ask me!...

It in a way reminds me of "The Sting". Leela going crazy, and some good jokes but some crazy shit goes down. Good episode indeed. 9/10

I love this episode. I'm hysterical for it for some reason. I just love this episode so much it's so epic. The hilarious Zoidberg moments and Leela's crazy moments are just too good. 10/10.

Probably because of all the repeated viewings, so it's not as entertaining anymore. If I was to wait a long time, then I'm sure it would be a 10 again. So I guess I'm a 10/10 for it, but when I watch it a bunch of times, it just doesn't seem as fresh, that's all.

I rated it a 9 as well. The story is spot-on, but I thought they exaggerated Leela's obsession a little too much. I'm aware it's common for writers to do this, (eg. Fry's stupidity is beefed up in "The Duh-Vinci Code" and Bender's laziness in "Benderama") but it was especially noticeable here.

Well...Fry and especially Bender are Over-The-Top Characters. Even the most extremes are often seen as only a slight deviation from their normal plot/behaviour limits (the imhO hardest, toughest fight in the series was delivered by Fry in "Crustean in Love", when Zoidberg's far above human strength was shown in that episode and labeling him as a real superior opponent , Fry showed extreme  toughness by fighting with his own cut-off arm, etc... .
Yet, no one considered that duel really disturbingly OC, though physical fights -especially against these odds- are usually not Fry's theme, etc....)

Leela is a rather "low-key" character, so deviations from her normal behaviour are much more obvious.  On early Leela, the writers gave that character relatively few flaws (compared to the other characters). Leela becoming the character least likely to forgive OC/over-the-top writing is the price they had to pay for that.

If characters weren't stretched out once and a while, the show would lose a little pizazz. Like in: "Bendless Love" where Farnsworth becomes all nice and stuff, in "Hell is Other Robots" Bender becomes hilariously nice, and in "Overclockwise" and "Godfellas" Bender becomes an allmighty being.

Leela is a character who is anal retentive and neurotic and frequently hits people when she's mad at them. I think her behavior made sense in context. It's not really a huge stretch when she already has obsessive, controlling tendencies.

I think this is my favorite 6B episode. Reincarnation is close, but loses a few points for the relatively middling second act. The atmosphere and storytelling in this one are pretty amazing.
